Humans depend on bees and other "pollinators (授粉者)" like butterflies to help grow plants, such as flowers and trees. But with humans taking over more and more land for cities, roads and farms, more natural areas have disappeared. The Wildlife Trusts, a group which works to protect wildlife in the UK, says that the insect numbers there have dropped by 50% since 1970. Bee bus stops are a small step toward supporting these important insects.

The advertising company Clear Channel is working with The Wildlife Trusts and city governments to set up bee bus stops in cities across the UK. Bee bus stops are like ordinary bus shelters, but small gardens have been added to the roofs to attract bees and butterflies. The company plans to set up 1,000 bee bus stops in the UK.

Clear Channel already has bee bus stop programs in several countries in Europe. In the Netherlands, the city of Utrecht has 300 bee bus stops. Research shows that these bus stops— along with many other steps taken to support pollinators — may be helping. After decades of dropping numbers, bee populations in the Netherlands seem to have become more stable over the last few years.

The little gardens can also help to slightly lower city temperatures. Even though the bus shelter gardens are small, together they add up to a much larger area. Thirzah McSherry, who works for The Wildlife Trusts, says, "We're living through a nature and climate crisis and we need to use every tool we've got to deal with it."

Jaramillo's students live in neighborhoods where fresh food and green space are not easy to find and fast-food restaurants outnumber grocery stores. "The kids literally come to school with bags of snacks and large bottles of soft drinks," she says. "They come to us thinking vegetables are awful, dirt is awful, insects are awful." Though some are scared of the insects and turned off by the dirt at first, most are eager to try something new.

Urban Sprouts' classes, at two middle schools and two high schools, include hands-on experiments such as soil testing, flower-and-seed dissection, tastings of fresh or dried produce, and work in the garden. Several times a year, students cook the vegetables they grow, and they occasionally make salads for their entire schools.

Program evaluations show that kids eat more vegetables as a result of the classes. "We have students who say they went home and talked to their parents and now they're eating differently," Jaramillo says.

She adds that the program's benefits go beyond nutrition (营养). Some students get so interested in gardening that they bring home seeds to start their own vegetable gardens. Besides, working in the garden seems to have a calming effect on Jaramillo's special education students, many of whom have emotional control issues. "They get outside," she says, "and they feel successful."

I couldn't forget the way I was frozen in front of the class today. My teacher, Mr. Liu had divided the class into groups to do speeches. Today was my turn. Floodwater can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes (蚊子) which carry diseases. You should avoid floodwater whenever possible. Here are practical safety tips：

Avoid flooded areas.

Do not drive, walk or swim through floodwaters. It can be difficult to judge the depth of the water, and unknown dangers may be hidden by it.

Clean and disinfect (消毒) items that have touched floodwater.

Taking a dual approach to cleaning up after a flood is crucial. Cleaners remove dirt and grime, and disinfectants stop the growth of bacteria carried in floodwater. If you are cleaning areas that have mold growing, it's also recommended to wear a N95 mask.

Make sure the food you eat are clean.

Don't eat food that may have come into contact with floodwater. Even if the food is packaged, it could have been exposed to bacteria from the floodwater.

Polluted water can contain bacteria and cause serious infections. Follow water safety advisories to boil water before drinking or use bottled water. If needed, bring water to a rolling boil for one full minute to kill water­borne bacteria.

Never expose an open wound to floodwater.

During flood cleanup, there's a risk of developing cuts, open wounds or blisters, which could increase the risk of infection. Apply an antibiotic ointment (药膏) and cover it with a waterproof bandage.

Wash your hands often and thoroughly.

Scientists have discovered a new kind of invisible ink. It is called water. All you need for this secret-messaging ink to work is to write with it on a super-hi-tech piece of paper coated with special chemicals. Shine a UV light on the coated paper and the water message becomes visible.

When the message has been read and needs to be hidden again, get out your hairdryer, and blow some warm air on the paper. Then the message will be erased and the paper can be reused, which keeps costs low.

The chemicals on the paper take in and give off light. The scientists found that putting water on the paper broke up the structure of the chemicals it was coated with. The water writing showed up darker than the surrounding paper under UV light.

Using hot air from a hairdryer for 15-30 seconds, you were able to reuse the special paper as many as 30 times because the heat reorganized the chemical structure of the paper coating. Without the heat from a hairdryer, the message stayed visible for up to three months.

The invention was made by a group of scientists in China, led by Qiang Zhao of the Institute of Advanced Materials, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

The Journey of Growth

In a high school classroom, sunlight streamed through the windows as our physics teacher announced an experiment. The desks, by wires and batteries, became our workstations. A group near the back the task was too hard, but the teacher encouraged us to keep it up, and we    answers step by step.

When the circuit diagrams (电路图) appeared on the screen, I froze--the symbols looked nothing like our textbook examples. for her calmness, I focused on connecting wires while she explained the of settings.
