How do we stay motivated once we have committed ourselves to action? Here are some tips to help us stay motivated.
Have self-belief
When you are faced with a setback, don't just let it defeat you. Remember that you have already overcome other obstacles. Believing in your capacity for success is a brilliant motivator. You know you can solve the problem facing you because you have done it before.
Setting goals
The first step to achieving a dream is to turn it into a series of goals. A long-termgoal will be the ultimate dream —let's say, setting up a new business. Short-term and medium-term goals will be the stages on the road to the final goal.
Happiness is a choice
Don't let problems, difficulties, or setbacks get you down. They are temporary, and with a bit of effort and organization, they will be solved. Choose to stay happy, to be contented, and motivated. Remember that happiness should not be a final goal.
Keep your motives in mind
Periodically, it is good to step back and take a critical look at what you are doing and why. This will help you to see whether your motives are the same as they were at the start of your venture. Doing something for the wrong motives, especially those that fall outside the law, can be a source of much worry and certainly will lead to motivation being affected.
A.You'll be easier to work with.
B.Self-motivation requires effort.
C.It must be the way you lead your life.
D.Believe in yourself and your abilities.
E.Don't let motives slip after your failure.
F.Our dreams are usually a bit uncertain and unclear.
G.Motives can change not always for the right reasons.

Not all birds sing, but those that do—some several thousand species—do it a lot. All over the world, as soon as light filters over the horizon, songbirds start singing. They sing to defend their territory and to impress potential mates.
"Why birds sing is relatively well-answered," says Iris Adam, a behavioral neuroscientist at the University of Southern Denmark. The big question for her was this: Why do birds sing so much? "For some reason," Adam says, birds have "a crazy drive to sing." This means hours every day for some species, and that takes a lot of energy. Plus, singing can be dangerous.
"As soon as you sing, you reveal yourself," she says. "Like, where you are, that you even exist, where your territory is —all of that immediately is out in the open for predators, for everybody."
In a new study published in the journal Nature Communications, Adam and her colleagues offer a new explanation for why birds take that risk. They suggest that songbirds may not have much choice. They may have to sing a lot every day to give their vocal muscles the regular exercise they need to produce top-quality song.
These findings could be related to human voice s too. "If you apply the bird results to the humans," says Adam, "anytime you stop speaking, for whatever reason, you might experience a loss in vocal performance."
To figure out whether the muscles that produce birdsong require daily exercise, Adam designed a series of experiments on zebra finches —little Australian songbirds with striped heads and a bloom of orange on their cheeks.
Through these experiments. Adam's conclusion is that "songbirds need to exercise their vocal muscles to produce top-performance song. If they don't sing, they lose performance, their vocalizations get less attractive to females—and that's bad."
This may help explain songbirds' constant singing. It's a kind of daily vocal practice to keep their instruments in tip-top shape. It's a good rule to live by, whether you're a bird or a human—practice makes perfect, at least when it comes to singing one's heart out.
(1)、What does Iris Adam try to figure out?A、Why all the birds don't sing. B、Why songbirds sing so well. C、Why songbirds sing so much. D、Why birds have vocal muscles.(2)、What do the underlined words "that risk" in Paragraph 4 probably mean?A、Defending territory. B、Impressing partners. C、Singing all to death. D、Threatening lives.(3)、Which of the following agrees with Adam's experiment conclusion?A、Regular singing helps to exercise songbirds' vocal muscles. B、Songbirds have to sing their heart out to win their partners. C、Zebra finches are born to have excellent vocal instruments. D、Good vocal muscles are more attractive to female songbirds.(4)、What can be the best title for the text?A、A New Study of Songbirds B、The Way That Songbirds Sing C、Practice Makes a Perfect Song D、The Reason Why Birds Sing Much -

Waste heat is a worldwide energy problem most people have probably never heard about. Every machine and power station, even renewable energy like wind and solar, creates heat that is simply lost in the atmosphere. Thankfully, scientists and engineers are devoted to capturing heat and transforming it into useful electricity.
Thermophotovoltaic devices (热光电设备) are one promising way to use this waste heat. University of Michigan engineers have created a precisely machined thermophotovoltaic cell that could be used to generate electricity from surplus renewable power. The cells would use heat stored in molten salt and turn it into electricity on demand, in a form that is much cheaper than batteries, say its creators.
One of the factors important to any device's thermoelectric efficiency is its material. If higher electrical energy can be created with smaller temperature differences, then the materials are said to have a high ZT value. And a new material created by scientists in Vienna has broken the ZT value world record.
Any new thermoelectric material has to have a distinct advantage, and research is identifying a number of promising products. Pyroelectric films (热电薄膜) are aimed at waste heat emitted at less than 100 degrees Celsius (212 F) and can generate electricity when a material is either heated or cooled.
Low-temperature generation includes computers and cars, making pyroelectrics particularly useful for squeezing more energy out of electronic systems.
Another relative advantage is inexpensive materials. More abundant elements like tin, selenium, and magnesium are cheap and abundant, with high ZT values when combined in the right way. Their use could lead to greener car engines and industrial facilities.
And when it comes to personal electronics, thermoelectric could eventually see off traditional charging hardware. Chinese researchers have built a wristband that gathers body heat to power a LED and may be able to power smartwatches or other mobile devices in the future.
(1)、Where is waste heat probably from?A、Running cars. B、Burning heaters. C、The shining moon. D、Living plants.(2)、What can be learned about thermoelectric materials?A、They are a renewable power. B、They can produce waste heat. C、They help capture waste heat. D、They have similar ZT values.(3)、What is the author's attitude to thermoelectrics' future?A、Doubtful. B、Hopeful. C、Cautious. D、Neutral.(4)、Which column does this text probably come from?A、Health. B、Education. C、Nature. D、Science. -

My passion for the field of dietetics (营养学) started at a very young age. Ever since I can remember, I have been dreaming of becoming a pastry chef.
I grew up being part of various sports teams. As I grew older, I noticed how food influenced my performance as an athlete. I started reading more about nutrition and signed up for an introductory nutrition course during my first year of college.
However, I noticed when I entered my dietetics classes, that I looked quite different from most students. I was the only ethnically diverse student in my classes.
My mom was born in Austria and my father in Iran. They met in Austria and moved to the U. S. before my brother and I were born. They exposed us to their own traditional cultural foods, and I grew up eating a fusion of Iranian and Austrian dishes.
I remember never having a taste for school cafeteria food, so I always requested my mom pack me lunch. She would pack me leftovers from dinner, such as a kuku sabzi, a Persian egg and herb frittata, or schnitzel with dartoffelsalat, a customary Austrian dish of fried breaded chicken. At times, I felt embarrassed about my meals, and would hide these from my peers to avoid the horrible question of, "Ew, what is that?" However, over time, and once I became a qualified RD (注册营养师), I realized my unique background allowed me to connect more deeply with others from different cultures.
I encouraged my clients (客户) to share what they grew up eating and what foods were customary to their unique upbringing. I developed nutrition recommendations for my clients that included traditional staples from their heritage culture. These experiences and my dual heritage background empowered me to encourage my clients and other RDs to proudly share their unique cultural foods, to stop feeling embarrassed, but instead embrace our differences and increase cultural awareness in the field of dietetics.
(1)、What led the author to take the nutrition course in his college?A、His dream of being a pastry chef as a child. B、His poverty in essential nutrition for health. C、His thirst for dietetics knowledge all his life. D、His awareness of the influence of food on health.(2)、What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?A、The author's favorite dishes. B、The author's mixed identities. C、The author's memory of his parents. D、The author's culture tendency.(3)、Why was the author afraid of being questioned about his meals?A、His meals were supplied free by his school. B、His meals looked strange from his school's. C、His meals were most likely to be bad to taste. D、His meals took his Mom much time to make.(4)、What is the author's purpose in writing the text?A、To criticize people's cultural prejudice. B、To share his unique growth experiences. C、To encourage embracing cultural diversity. D、To reveal his complex family composition. -

It was the last day of school, and the long year spent in fourth grade had finally come to an end. It had rained heavily all day, and by the afternoon it became chilly. The sun had dipped below the horizon (地平线) as I got home soaked (湿透) and cold. I rushed into my room and slipped into some dry clothes. Once I had changed, I joined my mother in the kitchen. She had already lit the fire to prepare supper.
The wood soon caught fire, and the warmth spread around the room. I tried to get closer to the fire as my body was shivering with the intense cold. My mother gently rubbed my back and said, "I am proud of you, my little hero," as I told her how my schoolwork had improved. I remember her bright smile and the joy in her eyes.
My mother started humming the lyrics to one of my favorite songs, "Heal the World" by Michael Jackson. I immediately began to sing with my mother. We would always sing songs like this together. My mother knew how much I loved singing. She always felt sorry that she couldn't afford to pay for music classes for me.
Life was not easy for us during that period. I was living with my mother after she separated from my dad, which happened the year before when I was in third grade. Sometimes the nights were tedious (单调乏味的) and tiresome as we did not have a television and the batteries in our old radio would often run out. However, I enjoyed the 20 songs that my mother and I sang together. As she hummed the tune and I sang along, I dreamed of a world where performing on stage would be the pillar (支柱) of my life. The turning point of my childhood came after the end of fourth grade. Our neighbor moved away and left his old piano to us.

Now more companies are experimenting with the concept of connected clothes. Among the pioneers is London based Cute Circuit, which has been creating fashionable smart clothing since
2004. The company's latest innovation is the "Sound Shirt", which allows deaf people to "feel" live music by transforming the tunes into touch sensations (感受) in real time.
The fashionable jacket uses software that changes the music into data and wirelessly sends it to the 16-micro motors fitted inside the clothing's fabric (布料). The devices shake with the intensity (强度) of the music being played, allowing the wearer to feel each instrument individually. For example, violins can be felt on the arms, while the deeper, heavier bass notes can be felt close to the stomach. The series of touch like sensations across the wearer's body enable him or her to feel the entire music, resulting in a musical experience.
To ensure the shirt is comfortable, the designers chose to leave out wires and instead wove conductive textiles (导电纺织品) into the garment's fabric. Francesca Rosella, chief creative officer of Cute Circuit, explains, "There're no wires inside, so we're only using smart fabrics — we have a combination of micro-electronics and very thin and flexible and conductive fabrics. All these little electronic motors are connected with these conductive fabrics so that the garment is soft and stretchable."
Cute Circuit, which has been testing the Sound Shirt for three years, expects to make it available to the general public shortly. Priced at $3,673, the smart jacket won't be cheap. However, twin sisters Herman and Heredia Breanne, who lost their hearing at a young age, believe the hi-tech garment is a worthwhile investment, especially for deaf people with a passion for dancing. "It's almost like feeling the depth of the music," says Herman. "It just feels as though we can move along with it."
(1)、Why does the writer mention smart clothing in the first paragraph?A、To show the development of technology. B、To introduce the topic of the passage. C、To demonstrate the latest trend of music. D、To summarize the main idea of the whole passage.(2)、 What does paragraph 2 focus on?A、The software used in the shirt. B、The musical instruments felt by the wearers. C、The way the shirt functions. D、The experience the wearer gains with the shirt.(3)、Which of the following can be used to describe the "Sound Shirt"?A、Affordable and fashionable. B、Cheap and comfortable. C、Interesting but useless. D、Expensive but comfortable.(4)、 What do the twin sisters mentioned in the text indicate?A、The shirt will be popular with deaf dancing-enthusiasts. B、They will invest in the "Sound Shirt" industry. C、The shirt should be marketed as soon as possible. D、They love music very much. -

Given the crowds of visitors and many attractions at the Disney parks, it's easy to get lost. Thankfully, you will always find a worker to point you in the right direction. When you do, you just might start to notice something unique about their body language—and it's just one of the many secrets Disney employees won't tell you.
Cast members, as park employees are called, are taught in their training to always point with two fingers instead of one. The first reason for this is that pointing with just the one index finger(食指), as most Americans do, is considered impolite in some cultures and countries. The Disney parks have always attracted many international visitors, so the friendlier two-finger gesture became the norm among employees, in an effort to be sensitive and welcoming to every person. Employees have even affectionately named it "the Disney point". Michaela Paris, a former Disney employee, said the Disney point is a sign of respect.
"Disney receives plenty of foreign travelers to their parks. The typical single finger point is a symbol of disrespect and has a negative(负面的) meaning in many cultures. Therefore, Disney created 'the Disney point' to accommodate all of their guests, " Paris said.
Other sources say this way of pointing is related to Disney himself. According to the Huffington Post, it's actually how Walt Disney himself used to point things out to visitors, because he usually had a cigarette balanced between the two fingers. You won't find cast members today smoking a cigarette—there's no smoking allowed for anyone, employees or guests, once you are inside the entrances at Disney parks—but the tradition of pointing with two fingers still stands.
Keep an eye out for the statue of Walt and Mickey doing "the Disney point" next time you're at Disney World. Meanwhile don't miss other such rules that all Disney employees must follow.
(1)、 When will a visitor probably notice "the Disney point"?A、When asking the way. B、When entering the park. C、When greeting foreigners. D、When smoking a cigarette.(2)、What does "the Disney point" refer to?A、A gesture. B、An employee. C、A park. D、A statue.(3)、 What does the underlined word "accommodate" in paragraph 3 mean?A、offer space to. B、put up. C、provide food for. D、adapt to.(4)、 What is paragraph 4 mainly about?A、Rules to follow in the park. B、The life story of Walt Disney. C、Some attractions at Disney World. D、A possible origin of "the Disney point". -

I am rather good at using maps. But I forgot the maps and here we were, late afternoon, last day of holiday, my daughter, my cousin and I, driving along a two-lane highway in Oregon. No other car in sight, and the sun had just gone down. Where was that sweet little village?
It was supposed to be right along this river. We drove on, farther into the unknown river always at left as our guide. We kept passing farms and fields and now a few lights were coming out. In my head, I was doing a lot of self-criticism: Why didn't we start earlier, bring the map and so on? My cousin and I were both impatient and stressed. My daughter, at least, was happy in the back seat, texting a friend. I pulled up on the shoulder of the road to think.
Just the — Wow! Amazing! A new scene appeared. Where did it come from?
Right there, out of nowhere: a magical misty landscape. Fields stretched in silent purple, with rows of tall trees, darkening in the dusk. I turned the car engine off. All was silent in the hot summer air. Beside us, a plum-covered river hardly moved between a border of trees, its dark lazy water reflecting the last light of day.
How breathtaking! Where had it been? If I had seen even a bit of beauty while driving along, I could have stopped and taken a look. I had missed it all.
We miss a lot, almost everything, in fact, in our world. Our task-focused filters (过滤器)takes care of that, selecting only what we need. We need to get to work. Have some lunch. We see what we need to see, often for purposes of survival. Gregory Bateson, speaking of beauty, said the judgment is selection of a fact. In our daily lives, who or what is doing the selecting? Can we make a change? Can we see further?

D、Her cousin farm.(2)、What made the author keep blaming himself in the beginning?A、That the holiday is unexpectedly tiring and boring. B、That she hadn't been well prepared got her cousin annoyed.
