Professor Zhang Liangren from the School of History at Nanjing University has found a unique and engaging way to transmit historical and archaeological knowledge to the public—through food vlogs. His approach, combining culinary （食物的） delights with fascinating historical insights, has taken China's social media by storm, attracting a wide audience and gathering praise for its innovative method of storytelling.

Before digging into food vlogging, Professor Zhang Liangren usually dined at the school cafeteria or restaurants near his community. However, since he started making food vlogs in the summer of 2023, he has been exploring the world extensively, dining at a variety of restaurants that were previously unknown to him. Zhang Liangren frankly admits that he is far from being a qualified "foodie": He enjoys good food, but has not yet reached the point of searching everywhere for it. What truly led him onto the path of a food vlogger was his passion for archaeology. While watching Zhang taste the food, viewers can listen to him explaining the historical stories behind the dishes. Although the food cannot be immediately tasted, the spiritual nourishment （营养） of archaeology has satisfied the taste buds （味蕾） of netizens, who have expressed their satisfaction.

Speaking of the situation at the beginning of filming, Zhang Liangren frankly admitted, "Because I rarely did these things before, I was quite uncomfortable in front of the camera at first. My Mandarin was not very good either, so my speech and movements were very awkward. But gradually, I got used to it, and overall, it's much better than before."

As for which places he prefers to visit for check-ins, Zhang Liangren states that he prefers shops with a certain level of fame, "It must be down-to-earth, the kind of place that caters to the common people." He mentioned that he usually chooses small stands or shops with a long history and good reputation. Sometimes he also selects based on festivals, tasting the food while narrating the methods of preparation and the cultural significance behind the dishes.

A Towering Achievement

Burj Khalifa, a tower in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is the world's tallest structure. The 162-story building, which opened in 2010, stands over 2,717 feet tall. Seen from above, the tower has a Y-shaped design. Its three tall, narrow wings are joined in the middle. Like the legs of a tripod （三脚架）, each wing is supported by the other two.

A Wheel Winner

About 15 miles from the world's tallest building stands the world's tallest Ferris wheel, Ain Dubai. Also called an observation wheel, Ain Dubai stands 820 feet tall. Each of the 48 cabins can carry 40 people for spectacular views of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Before construction, support columns had to be driven 115 feet down through the earth to reach bedrock.

Extreme Ups and Downs

The world's tallest roller coaster is Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure. At 456 feet, the peak of the ride towers over nearby Jackson, New Jersey. A 500-foot-tall crane was needed to place the final section at the top. Like many weight-bearing structures, the tower makes use of the most stable geometric （几何的） shape, the triangle.

A Monster of a Truck

Designed and built by business owner Bob Chandler, Bigfoot 5 has held the record for the world's biggest monster truck since 

1986. Other trucks, including Bigfoot models, have been designed to perform better in competitions. But Bigfoot 5 still stands above the crowd, thanks to its 10-foot-tall tires. The tires were originally designed for equipment that drives on Alaska's snowy tundra.

My parents came to the US from India in the 1960s, along with other immigrants from India. Back then, there were few Indians anywhere around the US. My father came to Kansas, where he would get his Ph.D. Six months later, my mother came with the three of us kids — my sister, my brother, and me. We were just six, five and three years old then.

Since I was three years old, I didn't go to school, but my sister and brother were in school. My father had to walk down the big hill to take them to school every day and then walk back up the hill to go to university. After about three weeks of living like this, a woman called Valerie, whose son John was in the same class as my brother, started noticing them. On a very cold snowy morning, when they went to school as usual, Valerie passed by. She pulled up and said, "I see you on the way every day. Don't you feel cold without coats?" My father responded, "We didn't expect the weather would be so cold in Kansas." Valerie said, "Maybe I can take your daughter and son to school. Would you like a ride?"

The university I attend has about 3500 students. One early afternoon, I  (walk) around the campus when I found a female student sitting on the walkway with tears on her face. Everyone just walked by her, so I decided to stop  (give) her a hand. I dropped my books and sat down beside her.  turned out that she injured her ankle (脚踝) and was  (able) to walk. So I told her that I would sit with her  she was ready to get up. It only took a few minutes for her to calm down. Then I took her the hand and got her to the nearest hospital.

Choose a friend who is honest. A friend that is honest is one of the best friends you can have. An honest friend will keep you from walking out of the house wearing that awful green shirt. They're supportive in their honesty. .

Choose a friend who stands by you in the hard times.  There are all kinds of laughter and joyful moments, and those times make relationships easy. But who are the people that stand by you when times turn hard? Those are your true friends.

Choose a friend who gives as much as he or she takes. We've all had friends that only want things from us. When a relationship is one-sided, we just end up feeling angry. It's not healthy. Choose a friend with whom you feel a balance of give and take.

Choose a friend who likes the things you do. While friendship is full of compromise (妥协)，it helps if you choose friends who share a lot of your interests.  It makes deciding on things to do easier. You don't have to choose a friend who likes every single little thing you do, but you should have some shared interests.

Friends need to laugh together. Choose a friend who can laugh with you rather than at you. Look for someone who will laugh with you at a look or a glance. Those people will be some of your best friends.

Make it clear what you want to tell your parents. If they have an opinion, let them finish it and don't stop their talking. Ask them to do the same for you.

Show them respect (尊敬). Listen to them carefully and look them in the eyes.

Be honest. Honesty builds trust (信任). Life is good when your parents trust you.

If your parents don't understand you, that's OK. It doesn't mean they don't love you. Sometimes you have to explain (解释) the things to them again.

When you finish the talk, thank them for listening. Say something like, "Thanks, that helped." It will let them know this is important to you, and make them want to do it more often.

All students have bad times. What do they usually do when they get into trouble?

My mom is like my friend. I talk about everything to her. Whenever I have some trouble, I can get good advice from her. I have another good friend — my diary. It knows all my secrets. Talking with my two friends always makes me feel better.

Work in the future will be different too. Robots(机器人) can do dangerous and hard work. Because of this, many people will not have enough work to do. This will be a problem.
