Sheep herding is a profitable industry in China. However, if farmers want to earn more, they have to solve a range of problems such as scale expansion, processing and marketing, which is almost impossible relying on only their individual strength. But farmers in Nanxiaozhai Village in Huairen, a city in Shanxi, have found a solution. 

Guo Jianqiang, a resident in Nanxiaozhai, said he started his business in 2013 by raising about300 sheep. The number has since increased to 1, 000. "I earned an income of 2 million yuan ($309, 000) last year and the amount is expected to reach 9 million yuan this year, " he said. 

Guo attributed the growth to the establishment of a sheep cooperative, which helped to expand operational scale and sales channels with the joint force of stockholders. 

According to Guo Zhidong, Party secretary of the village, Nanxiaozhai now has a total of 89 such cooperatives. The cooperatives have also developed a full industrial chain for sheep, ranging from raising, slaughtering and land processing to their sale. 

Nanxiaozhai has a long history in the sheep industry, according to the village Party chief, who explained that was a natural choice out of the village's environmental conditions. In Nanxiaozhai, residents used to farm on the infertile (不肥沃的) land and the grain yield could hardly support their existence. 

It was Lang Yueming, Cao Zhiguo and other villagers who started their business as sheep dealers in the late 1970s. "They could earn up to 20 yuan for selling a sheep," Guo Zhidong said. "That was a very large income at that time." Later, about 80 percent of the villagers were engaged in the business but they found purchasing sheep from neighboring villages became more difficult because of limited output. So they began to raise sheep themselves. 

The village business has boosted the sheep industry in Huairen as a whole. Statistics show the city's annual output of sheep is about 6 million heads, making it a renowned sheep-producing base in Shanxi.

Iceland provides some of the best opportunities to witness the northern lights. They are typically visible from September to April, coinciding (同时发生) with dark, clear nights, though there is a chance that you may spot them in early spring. The peak (高峰) viewing season, however, is from November to early March, when the nights are the longest. 

Yukon Territory, Canada

This remote area of Canada has many spots to view the northern lights shining in the night sky. One of the best places to view the lights and learn about how the northern lights came into being as well as the folk stories about this gift from Mother Nature is the Northern Lights Space and Science Centre in Watson Lake. 

Fairbanks, Alaska

The city lies directly beneath a band of northern lights activity, so it is a perfect spot to view the phenomenon. The shining lights are most frequently seen between 11 pm and 2 am, so don't forget to set your alarm clock. You can enjoy a stay in a hot springs resort (度假胜地) and enjoy the show while taking a relaxing bath.

A few miles down the road the lady saw a small café. She went in to grab a bite to eat. It was a dirty-looking restaurant. The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant(怀孕的), but she had a sweet smile, one that even being on her feet for the whole day couldn't erase.

I just got a parcel from home! It took about two weeks ( arrive), and it was a bit damaged, but it was so nice to get some sweets and jam from home; I've been dying to have some of my favourite sweets, and it's always nice to get mail.

So I've been here in the jungle for about a month now. My secondary school is a bush school. The classrooms are made of bamboo, clay floors and roofs of grass. It takes me only a few minutes to walk to school down a dusty track (cover) in weeds. When Ireach the school grounds, I'm greeted by a chorus of"good morning"from the boys. Unlike students in our country, these boys do not wear cotton uniforms, and many of (they)also have to walk a long way, sometimes for up to two hours, just to get to school.

There's no electricity, running water or even textbooks. All the students have are pencils, rubbers, and paper. I'm still trying to adap t to these (condition). I've had to become much more (imagine) in my teaching. Science is my most  (challenge)subject as my students have no concept of doing experiments. There is no equipment, and since there isn't even  washroom, if I need water I have to carry it from my house in a basin! It's important not to be too rigid about rules here, too. The other day I was showing the boys a chemistry experiment when, before I knew it, the mixture was bubbling out of the test tube spilling everywhere! The class (become) a circus as the boys,  had never come across anything like this before, started jumping out of the windows.
