When eleven-year-old Ella and Cash met at Ocean Heroes Camp 1 July 2019, they immediately 2 . Even their moms had no idea the kids would become 3 guards.

It's hard to be energetic in your daily activities when worries are controlling your  thoughts and influencing your work, school, or your home life.  In fact, trying to do so often makes your worries stronger.

But that doesn't mean there's nothing you can do to control worries.  Rather than trying to stop an anxious thought, the following are what you can do to help: allow yourself to have it, let it out, and get physically active.

Create a worry period. Choose a set time and place for worrying. It should be the same every day and early enough that it won't make you anxious right before bedtime. During your worry period, you're allowed to worry about whatever is on your mind. .

 If an anxious thought comes into your head during the day, make a brief note of it.Taking it down is like saying it out, which helps you to reduce worries. Also, writing down your thoughts is much harder work than simply thinking them,so your worries are more likely to lose their power.

Get up and get moving. Exercise is a natural and effective treatment against anxiety because it helps relieve stress, promote energy,and improve your sense of well-being (幸福).Even more importantly,by really focusing on how your body feels as you move,you can stop worries running through your head. .

An artificial intelligence(人工智能) system has shown it can save lives by warning doctors to check on patients whose heart test results show a high risk of dying. In a test with almost 16,000patients, the AI helped reduce the total deaths by 31% among people who were at high risk.

"This is actually quite amazing,"says Eric Topol at the Scripps Research TranslationalInstitute in California."It is quite uncommon for any drug to result in a 31% reduction in the number of deaths, and then even more unusual for a non-drug—this is just monitoring people withAI."

Chin Lin at Texas Medical Center and his colleagues trained their AI on more than 450,000 electrocardiogram(ECG) (心电图) tests, which measure the heart's electrical activity, along with the survival data of the ECG subjects.The AI learned to produce a percentile (百分位) score representing each patient's risk of death, whose score in the 95th percentile or higher would be considered high risk.

The researchers then tested the AI warning system with 39 doctors at two different hospitals.As nurses transmitted each new patient's ECG tests to a computer server, the AI system would analyse the results and warn doctors if it identified someone as being high risk. In addition to reducing the risk of death from all causes, the AI system also reduced the death rate from heart issues in high-risk patients by more than 90%.

Lin and his colleagues say the AI warnings may help focus attention on the highest risk group.During the research, doctors usually followed up warnings with more tests and treatment. The system is already being used across 14 hospitals in Texas."This can be put into effect in every hospital around the world," says Topol."It should be the standard of care when you see such a significant benefit."

Parents who force their children to have piano lessons are keeping them away from classical music, Lang Lang, a world-leading pianist, has suggested. The Chinese musician stresses that children who are forced into piano lessons can end up shunning music.

Lang Lang has launched an initiative (倡议) through his foundation (基金会) to put piano lessons into primary school schedules, so they are not just an after-school activity for the rich. The lessons, designed by professionals, can be taught by any teacher and the foundation has donated dozens of digital pianos to schools. The initiative uses tablets (平板电脑) and keyboards to get children playing right away, from Beethoven to Mozart.

Lang, who became famous in his mid-twenties, expressed his strong disagreement with the parents who forced children to have piano lessons because"the neighbour's kid does". He said:

"Those parents don't even know what music is. They get their kids to play without knowing what they are going to listen for."

Lang said children had to be educated about classical music to truly enjoy it."You really need to have a good childhood education in music. Take the reading of Shakespeare as an example. If you don't learn Shakespeare in schools, you are less likely to pick it up later."

The school initiative, Keys of Inspiration, is running in 100 schools in America and 110 in China. And the UK programme has started in four primary schools in London. The initiative was created partly because arts education had been forced out in schools. Lang added:"When I came to America, the first day I realized few students in the high school knew Mozart. In the regular schools they just simply don't have art and culture."

When I started skating at 6 years old, I liked Dorothy Hamill so much that I had a Dorothy doll and would put it on the edge of the rink(溜冰场) to watch me skate on the ice. There was something meaningful to me about having the doll next to me as I would jump, fall and pick myself back up again. It was there inspiring me to never give up.

Fourteen years later, I followed Dorothy's path to become the first American woman figure skater (花样滑冰运动员) to win Olympic gold since she did it in  1976. And now, three decades later, Barbie (芭比娃娃) is honoring me with my own doll as the newest addition to its InspiringWomen Series.

Six-year-old me never would have imagined I'd be where I am today. But I made it because I was able to discover my dreams as a young girl. My Dorothy doll had the power — it was not just a piece of decoration on the ice rink; it inspired me to dream big and work hard.

When I achieved my dream, I felt like giving children chances to find their dreams and pursue them. Through working with children and raising my own girls, I quickly realized a child's success in life starts with a school education and an interest in reading. A book is more than just a book, just like what the Dorthy doll meant to me. That's where dreams are born. When children open up a book, they open up their world.

So in 1996, I established Always Dream, a nonprofit organization that aims to improve children's reading by providing access to books and encouraging families to read together. If I can do more for other young girls, not only with my Barbie Inspiring Women doll, but also with what I'm doing now, that just might be the biggest gold medal of all.

The Best Trip for Actors

School Fieldtrips are always fun and filled with learning. Sometimes students visit a museum or a zoo. But one year when I was teaching in senior one, I joined some ninth graders on the best field trip ever.

At that time, I helped the drama coach afterschool. We were getting the drama classmates ready to present Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. At first the students had a hard time with the old English words. They would laugh and act silly instead of saying their lines correctly. But lucky for us, we were taking them on a fieldtrip to the Ashland Shakespearean Festival which would change all that.

In the spring break, we all rode a big yellow school bus for eight hours for the town of Ashland in Southern Oregon. All year long, Ashland fulfills one purpose: The Shakespearean Festival.

The whole town is setup like England during Shakespeare's time, with the Globe Theatre, an outdoor theatre, and actors in full costume. The students enjoyed seeing the town setup like their Romeo and Julietset. Over the next few days, we watched two plays, one was King Lear, the other is Romeo and Juliet. When watching Romeo and Juliet, the students' faces lit up because they knew the plot of this play. Seth and Emma, the students who played Romeo and Juliet, carefully listened to the actors as they said their lines. I could tell from their reactions that they understood the playa little better. They saw the actors move across the stage in the same way we had instructed them to move, and that helped reinforce those movements in their minds. They were able to see how powerful the story was; in fact, at the end, Seth and Emma were wiping tears from their cheeks.
