Active learners do not accept everything they learn. They attempt  (find) the truth at the heart of each idea. Even when an idea sounds (entire) unlikely, there may be an aspect of it that is based  truth. So if someone says that dinosaurs still exist today, think about  they believe this. Where does the idea come from? Do they have enough data to support their views? If you try to find out the source of an idea, no matter  crazy it seems, you (increase) your chance of learning something.

     Many people miss out on learning opportunities because they let their feelings get in  way. They refuse to learn or ignore what is said because of who the speaker / writer is. It is true  we cannot help disliking some people—this is human nature, after all. But do not forget you can still learn from them. Active learners do not judge people based on first impressions or personal (feel). Instead, they separate the message  the messenger. This goes the other way as well—do not just assume that some people are always right because of who they are or just because they are your friends.

If you find your inner voice difficult to control, you can argue with it  most active learners do. When your inner voice tells you a speaker / writer is wrong, think about why the speaker / writer may be right. Be flexible in your opinions and you might end up (agree) with the speaker / writer after all. If not, at least you have "listened to" another point of view.

Asking questions is the (easy) way to promote active learning. When you get information from someone, from books  the Internet, ask two, three, even five (question) about the topic. The answers will lead you to (far) learning, and the very act of working  questions will help you to achieve a higher level of(understand) about the topic. short: Do not stop being  (curiosity).

Most people assume that the human brain is set on "automatic"—that means it learns all by (it). But this isn't always true. We need to train ourselves to be better learners—to (active) take part in the learning process and to reflect on  we have learnt. These kinds of learning behaviours are called "active learning". I suggest doing five things to take an active role your learning.

There are two (kind) of voices: the inner voice and the outer voice. Your inner voice expresses your (person) opinions,  the outer voice tells you about opinions from what you hear or read. Although your inner voice can be useful, it can also get in  way of learning. If you keep (pay) too much attention to it, you risk missing important information. Instead, active learners are open-minded and focus  what the speaker / writer is saying, not on what their brain is saying in the background. In this way, they are in a better position to make decisions.

One weekend in July, Jane and her husband Tom had driven three hours to camp overnight by a lake in the forest. Unfortunately, on the way an unpleasant subject came up and they started to quarrel. By the time they reached the lake, Jane was so angry that she said to Tom,"I'm going to find a better spot for us to camp," and walked away.

With no path to follow, Jane just walked on for a long time. After she had climbed to a high place, she turned around, hoping to see the lake. To her surprise, she saw nothing but forest and, far beyond, a snow-capped mountain top. She suddenly realized that she was lost.

"Tom!" she cried. "Help!"

No reply. If only she had not left her mobile phone in that bag with Tom. Jane kept moving, but the farther she walked, the more confused she became. As night was beginning to fall, Jane was so tired that she had to stop for the night. Lying awake in the dark, Jane wanted very much to be with Tom and her family. She wanted to hold him and tell him how much she loved him.

Jane rose at the break of day, hungry and thirsty. She could hear water trickling(滴落) somewhere at a distance. Quickly she followed the sound to a stream. To her great joy, she also saw berry bushes. She drank and ate a few berries. Never in her life had she tasted anything better. Feeling stronger now, Jane began to walk along the stream and hope it would lead her to the lake.

As she picked her way carefully along the stream, Jane heard a helicopter. "Is that for me?" Unfortunately, the trees made it impossible for people to see her from above. A few minutes later, another helicopter flew overhead. Jane took off her yellow blouse, thinking that she should go to an open area and flag them if they came back again.

When I first got an e-mail account over ten years ago, I received communications only from family, friends, and colleagues. Now it seems that every time I check my e-mail, I have an endless series of advertisements and other correspondence that do not interest me at all.and we need specific laws that make spamming (发送垃圾邮件) a crime.

, the problem will certainly get much worse. Computer programs allow spammers to send hundreds of millions of e-mails almost instantly. so individual e-mail boxes are often flooded with spam e- mails. Would people continue to use e- mail if they had to deal with an annoying amount of spam each time?

This problem is troubling for individuals and companies as well.. Companies rely on e- mail for their employees to communicate with each other. Spam frequently causes failures in their local communication networks, and their employees are thus unable to communicate effectively. Such a situation results in a loss of productivity and requires companies to repeatedly repair their networks.

For these reasons,. Spammers should be fined, and perhaps sent to prison if they continue to disturb people. E-mail is a tool which helps people all over the world to communicate conveniently, but spam is destroying this convenience.

It was 6 a.m. as I got on the train, ending my work one cold morning and I was lucky to get a seat. At that time of the morning, my eyes were not fully focused and at times I was half asleep. During that time the train was usually filled with construction workers heading out to start their work. On that particular morning I found myself drawn on the shoes of men sitting about 10 seats across from me.

I sat examining the shoes of men. Men from different walks of life, holding different jobs, thinking different thoughts, living different lives and despite what they did and how they looked, they all had something in common. They were all of the working class trying to achieve their dreams.

One day each of those men has to visit a shoe store to buy a new pair of shoes, a type that fits their working needs. For a short time those shoes look so good. Then one day they lose their shine; they no longer look as good, but guess what? The shoes feel right. Feet have found their own home within the comfort of those shoes.

If those shoes could talk, what kind of a tale do you think they would tell? If your shoes could talk, what do you think they would say about you? Would the story be about a journey filled with joy and fun? Or would the story be one filled with disappointment and regret?

We choose the shoes. Where we take them and when and how we wear them are up to us.

The topic of "crossing your legs" has been hotly discussed on the Internet recently. The truth is that crossing one leg over the other, a common sitting posture preferred by many people, may actually do harm to one's health. So while seated, try not to do so any more.

Whether it is at the office, in a waiting room or relaxing at home, many people' s go-to posture is one leg over the other, crossed at the knee. If you're like many of us, you spend too many hours of your day seated and for most of that time, you have crossed your legs for comfort.

One study found that people who sat with their legs crossed for more than three hours a daywere more likely to lean forward and to round their shoulders. But the research relied on people's own estimations of how long they crossed their legs for.

When you cross your legs, you are putting compression and pressure on your leg and knee joints and nerves. The way you sit is a huge determinant of your health and the way your body moves and functions. Sitting with your legs crossed leaves your hips uneven and forces your pelvic bone(盆骨) to rotate. Therefore, the longer you sit in this uneven position, the more pressure is placed on your knee and spine(脊柱), increasing the likelihood that it will develop into a long-term issue.

If seated long, then more importantly for you, cultivate and develop a healthy habit of sitting position. And here are the followings. Switch sitting positions often. Take brief walks around your office or home. Gently stretch your muscles every so often to help relieve muscle tension. Keep your feet on the floor, with your ankles in front of your knees. Relax your shoulders; they should not be rounded. Keep your elbows in close to your body and let them be bent between 90 and 120 degrees. Make sure that your back, thighs and hips are fully supported. Try doing those and maybe some of them fit you.

Billions of insects are moving together over the sky like a black cloud. It's a swarm of locusts. Many insects move in huge swarms. They form swarms for different reasons. Some move together to look for food or to find new homes. Sometimes insects swarm for protection. These enormous swarms can destroy food crops and harm other living things.

When something disturbs a red fire ants' nest, out they will come. Not just one or two, but thousands of them. The fire ants swarm all over their victim. Their stings burn like fire. Each ant in the swarm can sting over and over again. The fire ants hold onto their victim with their mouth parts. Then they inject their prey with poison. Most small animals cannot survive the stings from a swarm of fire ants.

When army ants are on the move, anything in their path is prey. Even snakes can' t escape a swarm of these stinging ants. Army ants move together to look for food. They can't see their prey, but they use smells and sounds to find their way. If they come to a river, they make a bridge with their bodies. They cling together with their legs. Then the rest of the ants can cross the bridge. There is not much that can stop these fierce and cruel ants from chasing their prey.

Insects are not the only animals that swarm. There are many others that do. Most are not harmful to people. Being close to a huge swarm of animals can be scary and dangerous. Some scientists have studied animal swarms. They have found that many swarms follow simple rules. They work together to solve problems. When they work together they are a very strong team.
