In 2017, I was diagnosed (诊断) with Type 1 diabetes (糖尿病). And then I was told that I couldn't drive for a few weeks until my blood sugar levels had1 . 

Driving was a2 very soon after diagnosis for me. I needed to get to the chemist's shop for my diabetes medicine and get to hospital appointments, but at first couldn't, for having been told not to drive. I didn't want to be a3 , having to ask for lifts all the time.

A farmer grew some vegetables in his garden. One day his wife was ill and he had no money. He had to sell some cabbages and carrots in the market. The next morning he took two baskets of vegetables to town. But it was raining hard that afternoon and there were few people in the street. When his vegetables were sold out, it was dark. He bought some medicine and hurried to his village.

Chu Opera is one of the main local opera varieties in Hubei Province,  has a history of more than 150 years. It was known as Huangxiao Flower-Drum Opera, before 1926 and then renamed Chu Opera. It is lively, popular, and  to understand and also has a strong local flavor. It  describes stories of legends（传说）and family life, and is often simple and humorous. Unlike Peking Opera, there are only three kinds of  : sheng（male）, dan（female）and chou（clown）. 

In order to preserve it, a special theater  in 1998 and was given the name Wuhan Chu Opera Theater. Since its establishment, the theater has collected  adapted more than one hundred large or small traditional operas. One of the most well-known traditional operas is Magic Lotus Lantern（Baoliandeng）. As the story  , the Goddess of Mount Hua, who helps people  her magic Lotus Lantern, falls in love with a mortal（凡人）, Liu Yanchang. They get married and have a son named Chen Xiang. But the goddess's brother cannot bear to see  sister marry a mortal. He orders his heavenly dog  away the Lotus Lantern and hide the goddess in Mount Hua. Later a god teaches Chen Xiang kung fu so he can split（劈开）Mount Hua open and save his mother. 

I was overweight most of my life. Everything I really knew about myself was 1 on my size. It was really a 2 experience being a fat woman. However, everything changed after my drastic（极端的）weight 3 five years ago.

If you've ever wondered why storms have names, you' re not alone. The question has left many people confused, especially considering the practice is relatively new to the UK. 

Simply put, storms have names because it makes them easier to keep track of, which, in turn, helps to make the public more aware of them. The strategy was introduced by the Met Office in 2014 after the UK weather service realized how effective it's been in keeping people safe in other countries. "We have seen how naming storms elsewhere in the world raises awareness of severe weather before it strikes," Derrick Ryall, Public Weather Service at the Met Office, explained. Windstorm Abigail in 2015 was the first storm to be named in the UK, and since then, dozens of other storms have been given their own names. 

While the UK has only started naming storms after people in the last ten years, the practice actually dates back to the 1800s. Hurricanes were originally named in honor of saints（圣人）in the Caribbean, with the tradition reportedly beginning with the 1825 Santa Ana Storm in Porto Rico. 

Towards the end of the century, British-born meteorologist（气象学家）Clement Wragge decided to give storms female names from Greek and Roman mythology（神话）. The practice died out in the earlier years of the 20th century but restarted during World War II, when Air Force and Navy meteorologists began naming hurricanes after their beloved wives and girlfriends. 

In 1953, the United States officially adopted a naming system for storms. Australia followed suit（跟着做）in 1963, as did its next-door neighbor, New Zealand. In these countries, storms are named in an A-Z pattern. Since November 2022, the US has been struck by six storms—Arwen, Barra, Corrie, Dudley, Eunice, and Franklin.

Beethoven began losing his hearing in his mid-20s, after already building a reputation as a musician and composer. The cause of his deafness remains a mystery, though modern analysis of his DNA revealed health issues including large amounts of lead in his system. At the time, people ate with lead plates—they just didn't know back then. 

Continuing to compose and conduct, he changed lodgings（住处）constantly in Vienna, which could be due to Beethoven's neighbors' complaint about his pounding（反复击打）on his piano at all hours. 

Beethoven even continued performing publicly as a musician, which was necessary for many composers of the age. That's how they got their pieces out, not just composing but performing. For the longest time he didn't want to disclose his deafness because he believed that it would ruin his career. 

Once his hearing was fully gone by age 45, Beethoven retreated from public life. Giving up performing and public appearances, he allowed only select friends to visit him, communicating through written conversations in notebooks. His deafness forced him to become a very private, insular（孤立的）person over the course of time. 

A common question is how Beethoven continued composing without his hearing, but this likely wasn't too difficult. Music is a language, with rules. Knowing the rules of how music is made, he could sit at his desk and compose a piece of music without hearing it. Beethoven's style changed, however, as he lost his public life. His once-cheerful musical style began to take on a dark tone. His famous Sixth Symphony also reflects his different life in deafness.

It was a beautiful May morning. As usual, I started my day by sitting outside breathing the fresh air as I read my book and drank my coffee. Afterwards, there were two things I was determined to do. First, make sure my husband got our small Christmas trees down from the attic （阁楼） and, second, take several bags of clothes, blankets and comforters to the donation center. I had been faithful in doing that every year, but for whatever reason. I had delayed this year and the bags were now piling up and overflowing.

After reading for a while, I went into the bedroom to ask my husband to bring the trees down. He was asleep so I figured I'd surprise him and get them down by myself.

I went to the garage to access the attic storage and moved our tall metal ladder into place. I had to move the bags of clothing and blankets out of the way, determined once again to get those to the donation center.

I climbed the ladder, and two steps from the top I was able to reach up and push open the attic door. Then, with my feet on the very last step and part of my upper body in the attic. I saw my trees. I awkwardly raised my leg to climb onto the attic floor. Looking down. and then looking up again. I decided that this was actually too much for me. I should wait for my husband to get them.

As I stepped down, my foot missed the shaky ladder's step. With one foot swinging and the other on the top step, I grabbed （抓住） the attic floorboard and called my husband. Unfortunately, he couldn't hear me. As I went to take another step down, the ladder suddenly came out from under me, loudly crashing onto the concrete garage floor, leaving me hanging from the at tic with sweaty hands. In that second, which seemed like a century, I prayed and then called my husband.

Heman Bekele was not a typical high school student. 1 . spending his free time playing video games, this 14-year-old was conducting experiments. His goal was to create a 2 . that could treat skin cancer, and make it affordable for everyone who 3 . it.
