4、Studies continue to show how important strong friendships are to our overall health. Here're the rules you are supposed to know to keep strong and healthy friendships.
Everyone needs a support network. When you consider yourself the friend of another, you're implicitly offering to be a part of his or her support network. What's more, without trust and honesty, there is no authenticity (真实性) to the friendship.
Be all ears to your friends. Too often, we only "half hear" what others are telling us, and have a hard time making space for caring about others' conditions. If we don't truly know what our friends need or can't clearly express how we feel or what we need, friendships won't survive or continue.
Throw away the judgment. Good friends are able to realize that everyone is human. Friends don't have to necessarily "like" or "approve" of their friends' choices, but good friends will accept their friends' choices no matter what.
Forgive (原谅) where you can — and seek forgiveness when you make a mess of something. No one promises to bring perfection to a relationship, so being willing to accept and forgive the weaknesses of others makes you more likely to build a lasting friendship.
Respect your friends and their boundaries. Everyone has a right to set up personal boundaries to feel safe and respected. Some friends may have a difficult time letting people get close to them for fear of being hurt. Give them the space they need to feel comfortable, and let the relationship deepen over time.
A. Don't crowd your friends.
B. Offer them what they need.
C. Support, trust, and honesty are givens.
D. But friendships don't need to be perfect.
E. True friends don't judge each other's choices.
F. However, friendships require attention and care.
G. It's also important that we're able to recognize when we make mistakes.

5、Sixteen miles off the coast of northern Scotland, the future of green energy is taking shape. The five giant turbines (涡轮机) of the Hywind Scotland wind farm look much like any other off-shore wind project, except one major difference — they're floating.
While traditional offshore turbines sit on metal and concrete towers fixed into the seabed, Hywind's turbines rest on floating frames that move up and down with the waves. It proves to be an important development as the world struggles to meet the net zero carbon emission (排放) targets set in the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
To cut those emissions, green electricity will need to be at the main source of global energy, according to the International Energy Agency. It says that by 2040, half of the world's energy needs will have to be met by electricity produced in a net zero way. Projects like Hywind's floating wind farm offer a picture of what the future could look like.
The reasons for this can be listed as follows. Firstly, unlike fixed units, floating turbines can operate in deep waters far from the shoreline, where winds tend to be stronger. Secondly, it can serve offshore areas that are too deep for bottom-fixed turbines. "In places like Korea, Japan and California, you can only manage a certain amount of offshore wind, or maybe even none at all, so floating turbines are the only option in the longer term," explains Henrik Steisdal, a Danish inventor at the forefront of floating wind innovation.
While floating turbines overcome some of the problems that make offshore wind farms in deep waters impossible, there are still challenges that have to be overcome. There are some concerns about what effect floating wind turbines might have on the sea environment. The price of floating wind projects is also still high — almost twice as much as that of the bottom-fixed offshore ones. Another problem is how to avoid the risk of a system breakdown when the wind is blowing too hard.
(1)、What do the Hywind's turbines and the traditional turbines have in common?A、They are fixed. B、They use wind. C、They are floating. D、They use waves.(2)、What's NOT the reason for building floating turbines?A、It offers a picture of the future. B、Winds are stronger in deep waters. C、It helps meet the net zero carbon emission targets. D、It is difficult to fix turbines in deep offshore areas.(3)、What will possibly be talked about in the following paragraph?A、Solutions to the problems. B、Functions of the wind power. C、Advantages of the floating project. 6、In the rushing modern society, it can be all too easy to skip(不吃) a meal or two.You might even do it on purpose. A new study suggests going without one of the standard three meals a day might have a serious downside.
24,000 people participated (参加) in the study. Around 30 percent of the participants often had fewer than three meals a day. According to the data (数据), those who were younger, male, with less of an education and a lower family income, were more likely to skip meals. Meal-skipping was also more common among those who smoked more, drank more, ate less healthy food, had more snacks, and took in less energy overall.
Compared with participants eating three meals per day, the risk for participants eating one meal per day was 30% higher for all-cause death, and 83% higher for cardiovascular(心血管的) disease(CVD) death. Those who ate two meals a day had a 7% increased risk of all-cause death and a 10% increased risk of cardiovascular death.
The CVD death rate of the participants who skipped breakfast was40% higher compared with those who did not. The all-cause death risk was 12% higher for skipping lunch and 16% higher for skipping dinner compared with those who did not. Skipping breakfast was connected with a greater risk of dying from CVD, while skipping lunch or dinner was connected with a greater risk of all-cause death, including a rise in CVD risk.
There was even a problem for those who ate all three meals but had them too close together. Eating two neighbouring meals within 4.5 hours of each other was also shown to be connected with increased all-cause death risk. While the study seems to make messages difficult that suggest intermittent fasting (间歇性禁食) could be good for you, the data stresses the importance of regular refueling stops for the body.
(1)、What is paragraph 2 mainly about?A、Who would skip meals. B、How the research is done. C、Why people skip meals. D、What the course of the study is.(2)、How is meal-skipping connected with diseases?A、Meal-skipping can reduce the risk of diseases. B、Meal-skipping makes no difference to diseases. C、The chances of diseases rise with more meal-skippings. D、It's hard to tell the influence of meal-skipping on diseases.(3)、What do the underlined words "regular refueling stops" in the last paragraph mean?A、Skipping meals sometimes. B、Skipping a fixed meal. C、Having meals at your will. D、Having meals at the right time.(4)、Which statement will the author probably agree with?A、Fasting is a good way for health. B、Good eating habits can treat CVD. C、Eating meals on time is healthier. D、Meals should be taken close enough. -
7、Year-12 student Noah Little has already sat his first Chinese-speaking exam and said it was "the easiest exam I've ever done". That view is not surprising given the Wagga High School student loves language — so much so he has built a Chinese translation app.
Noah said his love of language was encouraged by his community. "Wagga is a place full of people from different cultures, and sometimes when I meet new people who have trouble speaking English I like to talk to them in their own language," he said. "I also have a few Chinese friends so I think it will be cool to talk to them in their language."
The 17-year-old started teaching himself Chinese around five years ago, before taking distance education classes at the start of Year 11. His language ability was also useful in his part-time job at a local Chinese restaurant, where he translated orders for the cooks and customers.
Noah said he also had a basic knowledge of seven other languages. It was while teaching himself languages that Noah got the idea of the translation tool. "I decided to make my own app because there weren't many around — all the other apps were full of advertisements (广告) and the translation feature (功能) wasn't powerful enough," he said.
His app also includes a word of the day feature, lessons on how to write Chinese characters (汉字) and a news feed of important Chinese news.
He said learning computer programming to build the app had been like studying another language. With the end of school around the corner, Noah said he would like to pursue (追求) both his interests in computer programming and languages. "I'm planning to work for a year and save so I can go on to university as I really want to make a career (事业) out of one of these two topics."
(1)、What do we know about Noah?A、He began to learn Chinese at 11. B、He failed his first Chinese exam. C、He likes teaching Chinese to people. D、He gets a lot from learning Chinese.(2)、What are included in Noah's app?A、Advertisements. B、Pieces of world news. C、Suggestions for memorizing words. D、Ways of writing Chinese characters.(3)、What has Noah decided to do shortly after high school graduation?A、Look for a job. B、Attend university. C、Develop a new app. D、Learn more languages.(4)、Which of the following can best describe Noah?A、Curious and creative. B、Humorous and honest. C、Courageous and caring. D、Outgoing and outspoken. -
8、Are you looking for some movies? You've landed on the right place. Let's take a look at the list I've collected.
A Beautiful Mind
A Beautiful Mind is the story of John Nash, a mathematician who went on to win the Nobel Prize for his Game Theory. This movie brings his whole journey on screen—from his beginning to his downhill ride.
The first half is all about his rise to fame while the second half shows how he slowly falls into madness. After many years of fighting, he finally is victorious.
I.Q.
The story is about an auto mechanic who falls for Albert Einstein's niece. The only problem is that she is engaged (已订婚的) to someone else. Fortunately, Einstein likes him. The young man pretends to be a physicist to run after her, but things don't go as he has planned.
If A Beautiful Mind was a little too heavy for you, I.Q. would be the perfect fit. It's a light drama that is funny and heartwarming for the most part.

19、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Sally's birthday was approaching, and the excitement that usually filled her heart was now replaced with disappointment and stress. Turning eleven was a big deal, and she had always celebrated it with a grand party surrounded by her friends. However, this year was different. The burden of excessive homework and her parents' struggling business weighed heavily on her, forcing Sally to make the difficult decision of not having a birthday party, even though it was an event she enjoyed dearly every year. One day, during the break, her best friend, Jane, with a curious look in her eyes, approached. "Are you going to have a birthday party this year?" Jane asked, sensing Sally's sadness. "No," Sally sighed and replied sadly, "there's just too much going on and my parents are going through financial difficulties."
She smiled weakly, trying to conceal (掩饰) her extreme disappointment and stress, but Jane saw through her pretence easily. Jane nodded thoughtfully and did not say anything. After the break, Sally saw her talking to one of their classmates, Sarah, secretively. Curious, Sally went over to them, but as soon as Jane saw her, she quickly walked away. Sally was scared by Jane's strange actions and turned towards Sarah. "What did she say?" Sally asked. However, Sarah simply shrugged and walked away, leaving Sally standing there, feeling left out and anxious.
"What is happening?" Sally wondered anxiously. "Are they keeping something from me?" As Sally's birthday drew nearer, Jane was often found chatting softly with their other classmates. Whenever Sally went over to them, they would just walk away or tell her that they were talking about a secret which Sally was not allowed to know. "Jane has never kept secrets from me before," Sally thought. Her heart fell. Even her friends were distancing themselves from her! She swung between confusion and sadness with each passing moment, desperately trying to figure out what was happening. Why were her friends distancing themselves from her? And what were they hiding?
