4、Studying longer does not necessarily mean studying better. Below are some great ways of learning as much as you can without getting too stressed.
Find the right place to study.
The first thing you need to do is avoid distractions (分散注意力的事物) while studying. You should keep away from television sets and phone calls. Get all of your study materials together, so you will not be interrupted in the middle of your session.
Break down the tasks into smaller parts.
When you have gotten everything ready, list the items you need to study, and arrange them across several hours or days, depending on how big your load is. As a general rule, assign (分配) at least one hour to each subject. By doing this, you will be able to know more easily how long you need for each topic.
Schedule study breaks.
When you have listed all of your tasks and made a schedule, you should arrange study breaks. This will give your eyes some time to rest, and yourself a chance to go to the bathroom or have some coffee. Scheduled breaks will reduce the need for you to interrupt yourself to the lowest level during the study session.
Put your tasks in order of importance.
Just in case you run out of time to study, or if you think you do not have enough time to cover all topics, you should study in an order.
A. Each break may take about 15 minutes every two hours.B. Learn to arrange the subjects in order of importance.
C. This means going to one place that will give you peace and quiet.
D. The key to efficient studying is following the schedule strictly.
E. You can find a way to test your knowledge by having a study partner.
F. If you have a broad subject, you will need to break it down into smaller parts.
G. To make the best use of your time, you need to learn how to study efficiently(高效地).

5、He was already asleep. His bag stood ready by the backdoor. His pencil box was filled with freshly sharpened (削尖的) pencils. A big day lay ahead. My eyes filled with tears (泪水) as I thought about his new journey in the morning. My baby was off to high school.
I thought back to his first day of kindergarten (幼儿园). How he ran in excitement to the bus as my heart broke, how his smiling face in the window caused my tears to flow. I thought about how hard it was to let go of his hand and let him fly on his own for the first time. But this time, I found it was even harder.
Kindergarten is paper and glue sticks. High school is computer projects and technology you don't understand. Kindergarten is Mother's Day gifts made with hand-prints. High school is a funny card and a "Love you, Ma." Kindergarten is emails to the teacher about his difficulty with math. High school is depending on him to ask for help in class. Kindergarten is afternoons at the park. High school is keys to the car. Kindergarten is excited talk about his day. High school is just "My day was fine, Ma."
Kindergarten is the beginning. High school is the beginning of the end. You know that your time with him at home will become less and less. The moments where your family will always feel complete at the end of the day are coming to an end. I've raised him to leave us. I've raised him to be independent (独立的), and I'm watching him pull away, one day at a time.
As I watched him board the bus to high school, my eyes filled with tears again and my heart ached more deeply than it did on his first day of kindergarten. The bus pulled away, and my eyes met his. He gave a quick wave (挥手) and mouthed, "Love you." And then he made a silly face, and he wanted his mom to go back into the house now and set her mind at rest. I waved back and laughed. High school, here we come.

6、Being the cat's whiskers (胡须) is a humorous and positive way of noting that something is considered to be very near perfect. The humorous and cute images that this particular term brings to mind have to do with the use of the whiskers of the cat, including the ability to express feelings, sense changes in the environment, help with hunting (捕猎), and help the cat measure distance (测量距离).
Different views are held on the exact origin (起源) of the English saying "cat's whiskers". Some believe that the term, along with the similar "cat's meow", has its origin in girls' boarding schools of the 19th century. Others believe that the term was first brought to life by Thomas Dorgan, an artist who was active during the early years of the 20th century. What is generally agreed is that by the 1920s, both "cat's whiskers" and "cat's meow" were often used in the United States, and commonly used as a term among young people of college age.
Unlike other sayings that may sometimes carry positive or negative meanings depending on the setting, "cat's whiskers" is always used in a positive way. An employer (雇主) may use the term to refer to an employee who produces wonderful work. Proud parents may say this to their children when they perform well in a school play or win some type of competition. In each situation, "cat's whiskers" is used to show warm feelings for another person.
While not used as commonly as before, being the cat's whiskers is still generally understood to be a good thing. Younger people may sometimes have to receive an explanation of what the term means, which can lead to seeing the use of the saying in a funny way. Even those who consider the saying to be outdated and not worthy of use in public may still use the term to show love and respect in private settings.

7、Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher's dream student. So at the start of my freshman year, I had an aversion to math. It wasn't that I didn't want to do well, but simply that I didn't think I was able to do well. "I can't" became my state of mind in all things related (有关的) to math.
However, I was soon to learn that "I can't" was not a choice in Mr. A's class.
Mr. A always greeted (迎接) us with open arms as he said, "Welcome! Smile! It's a great day to be alive!" It was clear that Mr. A had a true passion (热情) not only for math but for teaching. If Mr. A ever experienced bad days in life, he never showed it. Mr. A greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the "I can't" student.
I found myself looking forward to math class, although I still hated the subject itself. Being in Mr. A's presence made me feel good, as if I had the chance to succeed. As the year progressed, I spent increasingly more time on my homework, and I met with Mr. A weekly. My classmates began to do the same, and it became "cool" to have lunch and talk with Mr. A. We didn't know it at the time, but he was changing our attitudes (态度).
Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn't become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly began to climb. There were hard times, of course. Difficult math questions sometimes succeeded in bringing me down, but Mr. A kept reminding (提醒) me, "Kate, smile! It's a great day to be alive!"

How to make a good first impression at high school?
High school's starting soon, and I want to make a good first impression. I'm a little afraid because I'm short and weigh a bit too much and sometimes people make fun of me for that. Can anyone give me any advice on how to act during my first weeks, or what kind of clothes to wear, etc.?

I really suggest being kind and outgoing. It is better to be really social and introduce yourself. You won't get any where being shy.
Your weight really doesn't matter. If you're really that uncomfortable with it, try working out.

Don't worry about your weight, and don't let it get you down. "Those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."
Remember that. Concentrate on schoolwork. Be nice, polite, and stay strong. Don't wear the ‘in' clothes just because everybody else does. Wear clothes for YOU. Try babydoll tops and flats; they're very nice and work for almost all body types (类型).

Take it from me, the best thing for you to do is be nice to everyone. If someone isn't nice to you, don't take it personally. Try out for sports and clubs, and you'll soon make new friends.
