How to stay healthy on holiday

Taking time to relax on holiday may be good for our health. . Here's how to stay healthy when you travel.

    Plan before you go

Besides the stress of organizing your break in the first place, there's the added anxiety of remembering to buy and pack everything you need, as well as getting where you need to go on time. To avoid this, as soon as you've booked your holiday, list the travel documents you'll need. Check you have them and they're valid (有效的). Then start packing several weeks in advance, giving yourself time to buy some daily necessities. .

Try to forget the cares of everyday life. You can achieve this by ensuring you don't check emails or social media, or feel necessary to use it to record your best holiday moments. Ideally, turn off notices, limit your screen time and try to focus on the present moment. That will enable you to relax and make special memories.

Eat and drink well and mindfully

. Take time to really enjoy all the flavors. However, you should be aware that too many alcoholic drinks can cause "holiday heart", characterized by an irregular rhythm. What's worse, if you're holidaying in a hot climate, that can also result in dehydration (脱水).

    Get active

Try a new activity. Consider walking and swimming or tennis. . Remember that being active not only helps you stay fit during the holiday, but also makes you feel fitter and more refreshed once you're back.

A.Ignore all the barriers in life

B.Get rid of the digital addiction

    C.But there's a physical reason for this

D.However, too much relaxation also has opposite effects

E.Part of the fun of going away is experiencing the cuisine of other places

F.On departure day, leave more time than you need to get to an airport or port

G.If you're somewhere hot, it's best to work out in the early morning or evening

Adaptation and innovation (创新) of traditional opera is an important trend in Chinese opera circle in recent years. In order to attract young audience of new generation and catch up with the time, traditional opera circle makes efforts to create new works. In recent years, traditional opera has come across the change of time and society. It gradually lost the main elderly audience and was not attractive for the young.

In order to find new opportunities, using modern sound, light and digital stage effects, China's traditional Peking, also known as jingju, Opera is appealing to young people in a fashionable and innovative way, as the classic art faces an aging audience.

The centuries-old Tianleyuan Theater in Beijing has introduced fashionable performances of Peking Opera. The opera combines instrumental music, vocal performance, mime (哑剧表演), dance and acrobatics (杂技).

Tianleyuan has a jingju art experience section and fashionable performances. It has attracted more than 2,000 audience members, mostly young people, according to theater staff.

"Good art should keep pace with the times, so does jingju," said Zhang Zishang, a 22-year-old performer of The Drunken Beauty, one of the classic jingju plays performed in the theater. "I feel today's performance is very special," Zhang added. She was born into a family of jingju performers and has had 10 years of stage experience. "Innovation is good, but we must also carry on the basic elements of jingju," another young performer Deng said.

According to Deng, innovation is perhaps the best way for jingju to deal with the problem of an aging audience. It has made successful attempts to combine jingju with local opera forms such as ballet when organizing performances abroad. "Innovation can help traditional arts go further. We are happy to see many young faces, and some of them even come twice to experience the ‘new' art," she added.

(1)、Why is adaptation and innovation of traditional opera important?

For most of December, Adele Adkins had the top-selling album in Australia, followed by Ed Sheeran, and then there was a collection of songs that took everyone by surprise.

Songs Of Disappearance is a collection of calls from endangered Australian birds. Last month, it briefly reached No.3 on the country's top 50 albums chart (排行榜) — ahead of Taylor Swift.

Anthony Albrecht, a PhD student at Charles Darwin University, produced the album with Professor Stephen Garnett. "I knew it was a crazy thing to suggest. But Stephen's a little bit crazy like me and he let me do it," Albrecht said.

Songs Of Disappearance was published with a university report which found that 1 in 6 Australian bird species are now threatened. The album records 53 of those species.

"Some sing what you might think of as bird songs, but not all of them," said Sean Dooley, who represents the conservation organization Bird life Australia. "Songs from the golden bowerbird sound like a death cry from some sci-fi series. And the love songs from Christmas Island frigate bird, which has a piece of skin hanging under its mouth that can inflate (膨胀) like a huge red balloon, sound as bizarre as its unusual looks."

There's also the Christmas Island pigeon. When people hear that pigeon, they might think that it's a human making silly noises, Dooley added.

The Charles Darwin University and Bird life Australia report does document successes in protecting endangered birds, the hope being that the album will protect more species.

"The increased awareness can make a difference," Dooley said. "When we have a community on board, that brings pressure to the government to do the right thing. We know that these conservation actions do work."

My parents never once spoke of the stress of having to pay for college, but I knew enough to appreciate that it was there. Therefore, when my French teacher announced that she'd be leading an optional class trip to Paris over one of our breaks for those who could come up with the money to do it, I didn't even bother to raise the issue at home.

Yet one evening my parents sat me down, looking puzzled. My mom had learned about the France trip through my friend's mom.

"Why didn't you tell us?" she said.

    "Because it's too much money."

"That's actually not for you to decide, Michelle," my dad said gently, almost offended.

"And how are we supposed to decide, if we don't even know about it?"

I looked at them both, unsure of what to say. My mother glanced at me, her eyes soft. My father had changed out of his work uniform and into a clean white shirt. They were in their early forties then, married nearly twenty years. Neither one of them had ever vacationed in Europe. They never took beach trips or went out to dinner. They didn't own a house. We were their investment, me and my brother. Everything went into us.

A few months later, I boarded a flight to Paris with my teacher and a dozen or so of my classmates from Whitney Young. We would stay in a hostel, tour the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. We'd buy snacks from stands on the street and walk along the banks of the Seine. We'd speak French like a bunch of high school kids from Chicago, but we'd at least speak French.

As the plane pulled away from its gate that day, I looked out my window and back at the airport, knowing that my mother stood somewhere behind its black-glass windows, dressed in her winter coat and waving me on. I remember all the details. I remember the jet engines firing, shockingly loud. And then we were rattling down the runway and beginning to tilt upward as the acceleration seized my chest and pressed me backward into my seat for that strange, in-between moment that comes before finally you feel lifted.

(1)、Why didn't the author tell her parents about the France trip?

Jackie was searching for her library book in her room. Outside her house stood her friend Sasha waiting for her to go to the library. But the book was missing.

Jackie then ran into her sister's bedroom. "Have you seen my library book? Last week my book was bitten by your cat. The week before that, you dropped my book in the park, " Jackie asked angrily. Her sister shook her head. Despite her efforts, Jackie found no traces of the book there.

"What's taking you so long, Jackie?" Mom's voice rang through the house. "I need to find my library book. It has a red cover. It's due (到期) today. If I have lost the library book, I am not allowed to check out any books for a whole month, " Jackie sighed, walking down the stairs. She nearly ran into her mom, who was carrying a heavy laundry (待洗衣物) basket.

"Good luck with that book. The library closes in twenty minutes. " Mom stopped to grab Jackie's clothes from the railing and wrinkled her nose. "I'm putting these in the laundry, " said Mom, disappearing down the basement stairs.

Jackie ran around the house, looking under the sofa, in the fridge, and behind the piano. However, the book was nowhere to be found. Where was that library book? The thought of not being able to get into the world of stories and knowledge for a whole month made her feel very sad. Jackie sank onto the living room sofa, her mind racing with thoughts of the result she would soon face.

Just then Mom came into the living room and suddenly said, "Have you searched all the places? You need to think carefully and see if you've missed anything?" "I've searched everywhere I can think of, but I still haven't found it, " Jackie almost cried. "I looked for you in your painting room in the backyard last night where you were practising your painting. I seemed to see a red thing. Maybe it was in the painting room, " Mom added.

What will happen if you look at a solar eclipse (日食)?, even looking at any part of the sun's rays through ordinary equipment, like regular sunglasses, can result in serious eye damage. Here are some information about the risks of looking at the sun and how to stay safe while observing this sun's event.

What are the risks to looking at the sun with no eye protection? It's never safe to look directly at the sun. Looking at the sun for even a few seconds can cause "eclipse blindness", a dangerous condition in which solar rays damage the eyes..

Viewing a solar eclipse could also make your eyes uncovered when facing possibly harmful UV (紫外线的) rays. The cornea, the eye's protective surface, can also be damaged by UV rays, which cause pain and poor eyesight., as well as damage to other parts in the back of the eyes.

? During the eclipse, special eclipse glasses must be worn. That's because the sun's surface is so bright that if you stare at any part of it, no matter how small, it produces enough light to permanently damage your eyes. Our eyes never developed to look at the sun without suffering severe damage. Regular sunglasses are not safe to use., be sure they are made by professional companies.

Humans can make do with scarves, coats and gloves in cold weather. Some animals can hibernate (冬眠) for the winter. A new study finds that reptiles (爬行动物) and birds do something that is similar to hibernation, but a little different. In very cold weather, their body temperatures greatly drop into an energy-saving state in order to survive. The ability to thermoregulation (体温调节) for reptiles and birds is possible.

In Texas, where the city of Beaumont reached a low of 18 degrees Fahrenheit last month, it looked as if alligators (短吻鳄) had died of cold—yet alive in iced-over water. By ensuring their long noses stayed above the water line, the cold-blooded creatures were able to lower their body temperatures to survive the sudden short period of very cold weather. The process, in the case of cold-blooded animals like reptiles, is called brumation—it's like a short state of hibernating. While in this state, reptiles become sleepy and they can go for a long time without eating or drinking. For example, alligators can be in brumation from just a few hours to months.

Like reptiles and mammals, birds can go into a state called torpor in order to save energy under very cold conditions. "Torpor is somewhere between a short sleep and hibernation, " said Justin Baldwin, a PhD candidate in biology at Washington University in St. Louis. Baldwin studied 29 species of hummingbirds living in Colombia. Researchers found that hummingbirds can enter into deep or shallow torpor, depending on several factors, including their size and weather conditions. In deep torpor, the birds are much more likely to be affected by disease. And what's more, they would be easily harmed by their enemies.

Some bird lovers want to help the birds when they are in torpor. For example, the Bird Alliance of Oregon offers a few tips on how to keep the birds from danger.

(1)、What does the new study show?
A、Body temperature is important for animals. B、Thermoregulation exists in reptiles and birds. C、Reptiles and birds' thermoregulation is unusual. D、Body temperature drops greatly during reptiles and birds' sleep.
(2)、What can we learn about alligators in paragraph 2?
A、They are active in brumation. B、They are dead in cold weather. C、They face extinction in cold weather. D、They eat and drink nothing in brumation.
(3)、What does the author want to say about the birds in deep torpor?
A、They can get enough sleep. B、They may harm other birds. C、They may waste plenty of energy. D、They may be under threat.
(4)、What might the author continue talking about?
A、Risks of animal hibernation. B、His opinions of the study about birds. C、Some detailed measures to protect the birds in torpor. D、Other problems raised by cold weather.
