Isaac Newton was a great scientist known for his work in maths, physics, and astronomy. Even great minds aren't safe from making a silly mistake now and then!

One day, Newton was very busy thinking about a hard problem. He was staying at a friend's house in the countryside, a common practice for scholars in search of tranquillity. Like many people at that time, Newton used a small pocket watch for timekeeping. He also had a pet cat and liked simple meals like boiled eggs. 

That afternoon, Newton went to the kitchen to boil an egg for lunch. But his mind was full of ideas. When he reached the stove, he suddenly realized he didn't know how long the egg had been boiling. He looked in his pocket for his watch to check the time. 

To his surprise, the watch was not in his pocket. Then he looked into the pot— and there it was! Newton had put his watch into the boiling water by mistake, thinking it was the egg!

Of course, the watch was damaged. When his friends heard the story, they laughed kindly. Newton was embarrassed(尴尬), but he laughed too. It showed how deeply he could focus on(集中注意力于) his ideas, even forgetting what was in his hand. 

This little story reminds us that even the smartest people can make funny mistakes. Newton may have boiled his watch, but he also changed the way we understand the world.

During this national holiday, Jane  (策划) a trip to Penang with her family.
