①The brush pen, one of the "Four Treasures of the Study", was invented thousands of years ago. However, the oldest pen was just a stick or a piece of bamboo. It was difficult for people to write well on thin silk. 

②It is said that Meng Tian, a general （将军） of the Kingdom of Qin, improved the pen. When Meng was leading an army to fight against the Kingdom of Chu, he had to report the situation to his king in time. But his pen was too hard and caused him much trouble, so he was thinking of ways to improve it. 

③One day after hunting, Meng went home with some wild rabbits. On the way, one rabbit's tail left a long trail （痕迹） on the ground. Suddenly, a good idea came to his mind, "If I tie the rabbit's hair to a stick, would it be easy to write with？"

④After arriving home, he tied the rabbit's hair to a stick and tried writing with it. But the rabbit's hair was too smooth to write well and wasted a lot of silk. Meng was so disappointed that he dropped his "invention" into a stone hole in the yard. 

⑤A few rainy days later, he happened to find his "invention" fatter in the stone hole. He picked it up with hope. The brush worked beautifully on silk, because the water had cleaned the oil from the hair. Meng succeeded at last. 

⑥Thanks to Meng, the brush pen is playing a key role in Chinese culture. Today, students are taught to use the brush pens in school. It makes their life more colorful and helps them better understand Chinese culture. 

You probably see a lot of things made of plastic，like bottles and bags. What happens when the plastic is thrown away？Scientists say that much of it reaches the oceans in the end，and causes problems for ocean creatures（生物），like fish and birds. 

"Plastic makes ocean creatures in danger. Some of them die when they are tangled（被缠绕） in pieces of plastic，and others eat the plastic and die，too. "says Allison of the Ocean Conservancy，a group that protects oceans. 

A recent study shows that lots of plastic reaches the oceans each minute. Scientists predict（预言）that by the year 2050，our oceans will have more plastic than fish. 

Most scientists say taking out all the plastic that has already been in the oceans is impossible. Instead，they say the best way is to stop more plastic from reaching the oceans. 

Many groups are taking action. They pick up litter before it reaches the oceans. ▲volunteers from the Ocean Conservancy collected more than 16 million pounds of litter last year. 

Experts also encourage people to use less plastic. Many cities and towns in some countries have banned plastic bags. Experts also suggest that people should use more reusable bottles and bags.

The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 Solar Terms. They start from Start of Spring and end with Major Cold，moving in cycles. They are still useful today to guide people's lives through special food，cultural ceremonies and even healthy living tips.

Frost's Descent（霜降），the18th solar term of the year，is the last solar term of autumn，during which time the weather becomes much colder than before and frost begins to appear. The apple is one kind of recommended（推荐的）fruit during Frost's Descent. 

Minor Cold（小寒） is the 23rd one. For most areas of China，it marks the start of the coldest days of the year and people always start to prepare for New Year. According to traditional Chinese medicine theory，people need to eat food with more yang energy to prevent cold from harming their bodies. Another important traditional food for Minor Cold is Laba porridge（腊八粥）. 

With the development of science and technology，more and more robots have appeared and played an important role in people's daily life.
