The Laba Festival is on the 8th day of the 12th lunar month.  This tradition could go back to the Song Dynasty. From the imperial court (宫廷)to every family, cooking Laba Rice Porridge (粥)was a seasonal must. They not only cooked the dish for their own family members, but also sent it to others as a gift.  So Laba Rice Porridge was also called "Longevity (寿) Blessing (福) Porridge" and "Virtue (德) Blessing Porridge".

Now, every family still cooks Laba Rice Porridge on this day. They usually make it with different kinds of rice, beans, nuts and dried fruits. Do you know how to make delicious Laba Rice Porridge? First, wash the rice and beans in water. Next, put them into a pot. Then, cook it for one and a half hours over low heat (小火). After that, wash the nuts and dried fruit, and put them into the pot.  Finally, turn off the heat and enjoy the delicious Laba Rice Porridge.

Last week, our class held a charity sale in the school playground. We wanted to raise money to buy warm clothes and books for the children in a mountain village in Yunnan. All of us worked as 1 in this activity, and we all tried our best.

We started to prepare for the sale two weeks ago. Some students 2 their own books, toys and hand-made works for the sale. Some designed beautiful posters to tell other students about our 3 . Others learned how to talk to people and introduce our things better.

On the evening of November 9, 2025, the opening ceremony of the 15th National Games of the People's Republic of China started at the Guangdong Olympic Sports Center. As the first National Games co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, it made a historic breakthrough.

The mascots "Xiyangyang (喜洋洋)" and "Lerongrong (乐融融)" were designed after Chinese white dolphins. They had three colorful splashes on their heads, which symbolized unity. The torch's flame was collected from 1,522 meters under the South China Sea and passed around the region. Finally, torchbearers from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao—including the famous sprinter Su Bingtian—lit the main cauldron together. Singers Zhou Shen and Shan Yichun ended the ceremony wonderfully with the theme song "Heaven and Sea as One".

A total of 14,252 athletes and nearly 50,000 volunteers took part in the games. The opening ceremony was more than a sports event; it perfectly showed the unique charm of the Greater Bay Area and China's lively sporting spirit to the whole world.

One day, when you buy something online from another country, it might arrive in just a few hours—by rocket (火箭).

On May 29, Sepoch, a Chinese company in Beijing, successfully tested sending over 20 kilograms of packages (包裹) using a rocket, reported Xinhua. The rocket flew for 125 seconds before landing in the sea near Shandong province, where workers picked it up. Sepoch said the rocket was in great shape after the test.

This was a big step in developing point-to-point rocket transport. The technology could greatly change global logistics (全球物流), because rockets can travel halfway around the world in just 60 or 90 minutes, according to The Space Review.

The amazing speed comes from something called "gravity assist (重力助推)", said Nautilus magazine. When the rocket goes up into space, Earth's gravity tries to pull it back down. Scientists can use this pull like a slingshot (弹弓) to make the rocket go faster with little energy as it heads back to Earth.

Right now, the technology is too expensive for everyday use. ▲, making reusable rockets with stainless steel (不锈钢), like the one tested this time, can help, experts at Sepoch told Xinhua. Stainless steel is also very good at taking heat and pressure, which is important for space trips.

Experts believe that using rockets to transport online shopping packages could help make more money for space industry research and development. In 2024 alone, China transported 174.5 billion packages—more than 124 for every person in the country, said China Daily.

Imagine having the robotic legs in the picture. You can put them on in seconds. Light and smart, this newly invented robotic exoskeleton (外骨骼机器人) makes hiking and climbing much easier.

The exoskeleton is designed to be worn around a user's waist (腰部) and legs. Its built-in AI technology can sense a person's movements in real-time. When you walk uphill, the device (装置) adds power to your steps and reduces pressure on the legs, making it feel like you are being gently pushed forward during a climb.

Developed by a company in Shenzhen, the device has quickly drawn international attention. Hundreds of tourists have tried it while hiking. An American vlogger named Glossi made a video showing how the lightweight device moved together with his steps. "It's moving for me," he said excitedly. The video became a hit online, with many viewers calling the device "amazing" and "useful."

Besides helping hikers, the robotic exoskeleton is very helpful for the elderly. For them, it is more than just a tool. It helps them live a more active and independent life. A 68-year-old user from Hainan shared his experience, "When I wore it during a long walk, it felt like a gentle pull forward. It even gave me back the confidence to take walks in the park with my grandchildren."

The Chinese video game Black Myth: Wukong has made Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, famous worldwide. But for Pourazar, Sun Wukong has been part of his life for many years.

Pourazar, 63, is a skilled Peking Opera  (perform) who plays the Monkey King. He practices his makeup backstage at Beijing's Liyuan Theatre. An elderly member of the theatre jokes that Pourazar is now  "unique old monkey".

Pourazar has spent 30 years  (practice) Peking Opera and is famous for his acting of Sun Wukong. He travels between China and the US  a cultural ambassador (大使), introducing Peking Opera to both American and Chinese audiences. He  (receive) the Great Wall Friendship Award from the Beijing government in 2014 for his contributions.

Pourazar's love for Peking Opera began  he saw a performance in London in 1993. He was so moved that he left his job and moved to Beijing to study Peking Opera. It was one of  (difficult) challenges for him to start as an adult with no basic skills. Though there were some painful days, he enjoyed every moment.

Pourazar first played soldiers before becoming the Monkey King. He  (deep) believes great art speaks beyond language and has taken Peking Opera and Sun Wukong to international audiences. Pourazar  (respect) Sun Wukong's love of freedom and believes the character resonates (共鸣) with people of different cultures.
