Recently, I learned something about animals. Some of them are hurt and in danger  of humans. 

One big reason animals are in trouble is that we destroy their homes, like forests and wetlands. Another reason is hunting. Some people hunt animals  their fur or bones. This is very cruel. When we lose animals, it affects plants and people too. It can become a serious problem because nature needs  balance. 

We can help save animals. We should refuse to buy things made  wild animals. 

We can also support people and organizations that work to protect them.

Last term, students at Xiamen Huaqiao Middle School in Fujian had a special English competition. They drew pictures of their school and wrote about it in English. Some1 were made into postcards and cloth bags.

Noah first experienced volunteering at the age of 7. At the time, he helped with the soccer program at his summer camp . "I realized I could make a difference, even as a kid," said Noah. At another summer camp, Noah helped kids with their art projects. He was also part of a group to beautify schools and parks with painting. He did all this before he even turned 14. 

Since he turned 14, Noah has taken on many other volunteer projects. When he sees a need, he fills it. When Noah was asked about his favourite part of volunteering, he answered, "I love the smiles, hugs and thank-yous. "

Once Noah learned about kids who needed meals on weekends. Then he joined a group that delivered hot meals to both kids and their caretakers every Saturday. "When I found out that I could actually do it every Saturday," said Noah, "it became a thing I looked forward to each week. "

During the past year, Noah has helped the disabled to create art projects and reading. Most recently, he began helping the elderly with other volunteers. "We deliver birthday cakes to everyone over 89 during their birthday month, and provide transportation for shopping or attending medical appointments," explained Noah. 

Noah's love for volunteering shows no signs of stopping. 

"It is so meaningful to know that I made a difference in someone's life," said Noah. 

Chile is a long and beautiful country with the ocean to the west and mountains to the east. Some of the villages are a very long way from the cities, and some of the schools are very small. 

It's difficult for small schools to teach science because they don't have enough teachers or equipment (设备). This is where the Science Bus project can help. The bus brings special science teachers, new ideas, and equipment to schools in different parts of the country. Sometimes, the children go inside the bus for their science classes or clubs. Sometimes, the teachers bring the equipment inside the school building. The children do experiments. The materials used in the experiments are easy to find-for example, recycled plastic bottles—so that the class teacher can repeal the experiments with the class after the bus leaves. 

The goal of the Science Bus is to bring science to children all over Chile. Since 2012, the bus has visited many schools in Chile, and hundreds of teachers have learned how to make their science classes fun and exciting. 

In other parts of the world, children can take part in events called Bioblitzes. During a Bioblitz, scientists, families, students, teachers, and other people work together to collect as many different kinds of plants and animals as possible in a certain place, such as a park or a forest. Bioblitzes are a fun way to help scientists and to discover more about the plants and animals around us. 

Science is important for all of us because it helps us understand our world. We can learn about science inside or outside of the classroom. 

As pet owners, if you want to build a strong relationship with your pets, it is important to understand their body languages. Pets use body languages to express many feelings, from happiness to worry. 

Pets may have different signs (迹象) when they are under stress or feel worried. These can include heavy breathing, hiding or the changes in sounds.  Other pets like rabbits may stay very quiet or refuse food. 

 For example, some animals may show they're happy by playing with toys or by doing normal things like eating or cleaning themselves. 

Your pets' behaviour can also tell you if they feel sick or hurt. Changes may appear in body languages. If an animal walks slowly, avoids touch, or licks (舔) one spot a lot, it might be sick or feel uncomfortable. 

Understanding your pets' body languages helps build trust and makes your pets feel safe.  Therefore, it's important to read your pets' body languages. 

Jin Ying, 26, is a lover of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). She took part in a three-month training course on acupuncture and tuina (针灸推拿) in the winter of 2023 at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. 

Jin's life has been different since the training. She changed her life habits after learning the Five Elements theory. For example, she avoided sweating too much during exercise in winter because the cold of winter means people should slow down, according to TCM. For her, learning these skills and theories was not about becoming a TCM doctor but rather about embracing (拥抱) a new lifestyle. 

She is not an unusual example of young people becoming interested in TCM. A survey by China Youth Daily showed that 93. 3 percent of the 1,000 young people who took part had tried different TCM treatments. 

"I have seen a rising number of young people come to me for neck and back pains, which are usually related to the elderly. " said Ma Huifang, a TCM doctor at Guoyitang, a TCM hospital affiliated with Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. 

"Between Western medicine and TCM, young people often choose TCM because of its efficacy (疗效)," according to Ma. Some people question why TCM treats the same illnesses with different prescriptions. "This is actually an advantage of TCM, rather than a shortcoming, as it can be a more accurate (精准的) treatment for different patients," Ma explained. 

Younger age groups are embracing TCM, and, at the same time, TCM is also benefiting young people. As Jin noted, "It helps young people understand Chinese medicine and learn why it is believed to be a treasure of our Chinese culture. "

One day, I saw my grandma doing paper-cutting. She made many beautiful flowers and animals. I asked if (是否) she could teach me, and she  (agree) happily. 

At first, I was nervous because it was hard for me  (hold) one pair of scissors and follow the lines. But my grandma was patient (耐心的). She showed me  to cut slowly. She also showed me some easy  (example) to practise.
