Christmas is a important festival in many Western countries. It falls on December 25th every year. On Christmas Eve—the night before Christmas Day, children are very excited. They put their stockings at the end of their beds before going to bed. They believe Father Christmas will come down the chimney and put presents into their stockings. On Christmas morning, children wake up early to open their presents. Families usually have a big lunch together. They eat turkey, potatoes and Christmas pudding. Everyone feels happy on this day.

Spring Festival is the most important festival for Chinese people. Before the festival, people are busy shopping and cleaning their houses. On Spring Festival Eve, families have a big dinner together. They often eat dumplings, which mean "good luck" in Chinese. After dinner, people watch the Spring Festival Gala on TV and stay up late to welcome the new year. On the first day of the new year, people wear new clothes and visit their relatives. Children are very happy because they can get red envelopes with money .

Last summer holiday, Tony went to Beijing with his parents. They went there by train. Beijing is the capital of China, and it has many interesting places. Tony visited the Great Wall and took lots of photos there. He also went to Tian'anmen Square—it was very beautiful. They ate Beijing Roast Duck, which was delicious. They stayed in Beijing for a week and had a lovely time.

Spring Festival is our Chinese people's festival. There are twelve names. We call it the year of sheep, the year of dog… and the year of monkey. Before the day of the festival, people are very busy(忙于 ) shopping and cleaning their houses. On the Eve, there is a big family dinner. After dinner, all the family stay up late( 守夜 ) to welcome the new year. It is the middle of the night. We have some dumplings and watch many good TV programs( 节目). On the first day of the New Year, people wear their new clothes to go to their friends' houses. They say " Happy Spring Festival" to each other. Children will get some money from their parents or other people. So people especially( 特别) children like Spring Festival very much.

There are many holidays in China. New Year's Day is on January 1st. We wear new clothes and say "Happy New Year" to our family and friends. We eat dumplings. April Fool's Day is on April 1st. People trick each other. Children's Day is on June 1st. Children wear beautiful clothes on the day. They sing and dance. National Day is on October 1st. All of the Chinese people celebrate (庆祝) the great day!

Last summer, Mike and his family visited his uncle's farm. The farm was large and there was a clean river nearby. His uncle had many sheep and cows—they were very lovely, so Mike liked feeding them. Every morning, they drank fresh milk for breakfast. Sometimes Mike's father caught fish in the river, and his mother cooked the fish for dinner. They could also swim in the river when it was hot. Mike had great fun on the farm. He said he would go there again next year.

Last weekend, Jenny and Helen made plans for shopping. This Sunday was Helen's mother's birthday, so Helen wanted to buy a present for her. They decided to go to the Rainbow Shop. Jenny wanted to buy a pink dress—pink was her favourite colour. Helen said she could buy books on the second floor of the shop. Jenny's dress was on the third floor. Finally, they planned to go to the fifth floor because they could buy ice cream there. They were looking forward to the shopping trip.

Last year, the Greens went on a trip to an ancient city. The city was over 2000 years old, with well-preserved ancient architecture and beautiful carvings. Walking through the narrow streets, they felt like they traveled back in time. There were many old temples and busy markets. One of their most memorable experiences was watching a traditional play in the ancient theater. The actors wore elaborate costumes and performed with great enthusiasm. The Greens said the trip was not just fun, but also an educational lesson about history and culture.

Teachers' Day is on September 10th in China. Last Teachers' Day, students in Class 5 had a special day. In the morning, they bought flowers and presents for their teachers. They thanked their teachers for their hard work. Their teachers were very happy to get the gifts. In the afternoon, the class had a party in the school hall. Many students sang songs and danced. Some teachers also joined the performances—they sang old songs together with the students. Everyone laughed and clapped. It was a wonderful day for both teachers and students.

Christmas Cards

It was two weeks before Christmas, and Mrs Smith was very busy. She bought a lot of Christmas cards to send to their friends. She put them on the table in the living-room. Then, when her husband came home from work, she said to him, "Here are the Christmas cards for our friends, and here are some stamps, a pen and our book of addresses（通信簿）. Will you please write the cards while I am cooking the dinner?"

Mr Smith did not say anything, but walked out of the living-room and went to his study. Mrs Smith was very angry with him, but she did not say anything.

After a minute, Mr Smith came back with a box full of Christmas cards. All of them had addresses and stamps on them. "These are from last year," he said, "I forgot to post them."
