We need to make sure that we are using the forests and trees sustainably (可持续地) , and then they will be around us forever.

Luckily, every one of us can do something. Planting trees is an easy way to help. We can also live in a way that creates zero waste in our everyday lives. We just need to practise the "3 Rs"—Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!

Reduce

When we reduce the amount of products we use and buy, fewer trees are cut down to make new products. If we take care of the things that we already have, and repair them when they are broken, we don't need to buy more.

Reuse

Every time we reuse an item, fewer replacement (代替) items are needed. This helps to protect important natural resources (自然资源) . It also reduces waste because fewer items are thrown away.

Recycle

When we recycle products like paper, we stop new trees from being cut down. About 1/3 of the wood from trees that are cut down is used to make paper and paper board.

If we can reduce, reuse and recycle, we can make that amount much smaller! By recycling and buying products with recycled material, we're protecting our forests.

The friendship between humans and dogs possibly began 14, 000 years ago. Here are fourexamples of "a dog's life" in the human world today. 

Treated like a queen

Tiffy is one of these dogs. Her owner, Nancy Jane Loewy, treats her like a queen. Shepatiently prepares Tiffy's meals of meat, fish, chicken and different kinds of freshvegetables. Tiffy also eats yoghurt and biscuits after dinner. Loewy's husband has a very goodjob and her two sons are away at university, so she has the time and money to treat Tiffy verywell, and she truly enjoys doing it. "I want to give her the healthiest, most wonderful life as longas possible, " she says. 

Food sniffer dogs(嗅探犬)

Food sniffer dogs work at international airports in the United States. Their job is to smelland find illegal(不合法的) fruits, vegetables and other foods in bags and mail. These foodssometimes bring insects and diseases(疾) which could be dangerous for plants andanimals. The dog calmly sits down next to anything that smells suspicious(可疑的). The dog'shuman partner then checks for illegal foods. Sniffer dogs are friendly and cute, so they don'tscare(使…害怕) people as they sniff through the crowds. More importantly, these dogs havean astonishing nose for food. They can find food in bags 84% of the time. 

Animal carers

Jessic is a whippet(小灵狗) that visits very sick(生病的) children in hospital. She showsthem her love and when they feel down, Jessie makes them happy. Jessie helps patients to staystrong during their time in hospital. 

There are many different kinds of animals that help people. We train "service dogs" to helppeople with physical disabilities(残疾). The best known service dogs are guides for theblind. But they can also learn to     ▲    , turn lights on and off, pick up objects from the floorand even pull wheelchairs. 

Doggie detectives(侦探犬)

Search-and-rescue (SAR) dogs use their amazing noses to find people. They can smelltiny clues(线索) that people leave wherever they go. These include bacteria(细菌)，smallpieces of clothing and hairs. They may find missing hikers and search through rubble(碎石)after earthquakes and other disasters(灾难).

When I at the hotel, I enjoyed sitting on a tree and feeding the giraffes.
