On the first day of Grade 8, my classmates and I were greeted by Mr Lemke, our new English teacher. Although he was in his thirties, he looked like a(n)1 who could teach well at a university. He asked us to remember 400 lines of poetry over the year."I might ask any of you, at any time, to 2 and recite（背诵）a line,"he said.

Among the most famous traditional Chinese paintings, there's a very long painting of horses called Hundred Horses. To many people's surprise, it was painted not by a Chinese artist but by an Italian named Giuseppe Castiglione.

Castiglione is better known in China by his Chinese name, Lang Shining. He was born in 1688 in Milan, Italy. In 1715, he travelled to Beijing. With experience as a muralist, he was invited to work as a court(宫廷) artist.

Seven years later, Yongzheng became the new emperor. By then, Castiglione was already famous for a unique style that combined Western and Chinese painting methods. In 1724, Yongzheng asked him to paint Hundred Horses, a silk painting nearly eight metres long.

Painting on silk is no easy task. Once a stroke(笔画) is made, there is no going back. Castiglione first practised on paper. After carefully planning every detail, he copied the design onto silk, stroke by stroke.

It took Castiglione four years to finish the painting. There is no record of how Emperor Yongzheng felt about it. But the following emperor, Qianlong, was deeply impressed and called the painting a masterpiece.

As its name suggests, Hundred Horses shows about 100 horses in different actions. Some stand quietly, while others run, walk, drink water, roll on the ground or even fight. The painting's large size alone is already impressive. A closer look, however, may surprise you further. Castiglione skilfully combined Western realism with Chinese brushwork. The trees, horses and people appear lifelike, yet they were all painted with a Chinese brush.

In Hundred Horses, humans and nature live side by side in peace, and so do Eastern and Western aesthetics(美学). Perhaps this perfect combination is why Emperor Qianlong liked it so much.

Visitors to Qianhai Stone Park in Shenzhen are greeted by a special group of volunteers—robots in red vests（马甲）. China's first robot volunteer service station opened in the park on March 20. It was set up by the Qianhai Administration and the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League.

Developed by local companies in Qianhai and Nanshan, these robot volunteers offer several types of services, including daily advice, convenience services, safety reminders, knowledge sharing, policy（政策）explanations, emergency support, and face-to-face communication. And certainly, like the robots at the Spring Festival Gala（春晚）, they can also perform for fun.

Inside the station, robots take on different roles. Xiao Dai can take the medical items from a medical box for visitors. Ai Bao hands out drinking water, while Xiao Gai serves as a guide, answering questions about the park, telling visitors where to take good photos, and explaining local policies. Out in the park, protection robots like Xiao Chen and Xiao Liang act as safety officers, spreading safety tips and recent messages.

The most eye-catching robot is Oli, whose lively dance moves draw a great number of visitors. Oli can communicate in both Chinese and English, and more languages will be added in the future. Ivana, a visitor from Serbia, was deeply impressed."The park is full of surprises,"she said."It really shows the beauty of technology."

Human volunteers also work alongside the robots, creating a friendly and high-tech experience. According to local officials, the station provides real-world testing grounds for robot development. By opening such public service scenes, Qianhai hopes to speed up the use of smart technology in daily life and support the growth of local robotics companies.

In a government building in Huai' an, China, you can hear the soft sounds of coffee being made. But this is not a common coffee shop. It's a"silent café"where baristas（咖啡师）communicate with warm smiles and sign language. This special café is part of a local government plan to help people with disabilities find jobs. It has become a place of hope for the city's deaf and hearing-impaired（受损的）community, offering new career paths and showing their abilities.

Customers can easily order by scanning a QR code or using an online app, so they don't need to speak. For last-minute changes, there's an iPad with voice software and a writing board. This model is popular, and the café is a bustling hub. Many delivery drivers（快递员）come to pick up coffee.

For Wang Jiali, a 39-year-old barista, working here has changed her life. Wang cannot hear well and uses a special device. She learned everything about making coffee from the start. Now, she and her team make up to 200 drinks every day. It's hard work, and sometimes there are misunderstandings. Wang remembers a time when a customer got angry because she didn't hear his order."After I explained, he felt sorry,"Wang said."Once we communicated, he understood."

This job has helped Wang grow a lot. She said,"It has helped me build bravery and improved my communication skills."Her journey from a quiet world to confidently talking with people shows the programme's great success.

This good idea is now being copied in other places. The programme has already helped over 20 people with disabilities, and eight are now trained coffee makers. This café greatly shows how people can deal with difficulties and start new lives.

Picture this: After studying all day, you are tired and dying for a cup of milk tea. In the past, that little voice in your head might say, "Stop! That's too heavy!"

The phrase ai ni lao jioriginally means"love you, dear old me." It has spread on Chinese social media since the end of last year. A best friend always cares about you and stands up for your needs. When you feel tired, it is okay to rest. Think of yourself like a phone: After a long day, you need to recharge（充电）. You can go shopping, spend time on a hobby, or just do nothing and relax.

  Older generations often valued hard work more than personal feelings. Many believed that doing nothing was lazy and that putting yourself first was selfish（自私的）. But young people today believe self care is not something to feel bad about. The question guiding their choices has changed from"Is this necessary（必 要的）?"to"Does it make me happy?"

But remember: Taking care of yourself does not mean doing whatever you want. True ai ni lao jimeans knowing when to take a break and when to do your duty.

  In the end, lo ving yourself is not about running away from life. It is about having the energy to live your life well.

Pasang Dekyi, a young inheritor of Xizang embroidery (刺绣), was born into an artisan (工匠) family. She has devoted herself to this 600-year-old heritage in  modern way.

Xizang embroidery combines folk handmade crafts  painting techniques, using silk and brocade (锦缎) to create a 3D effect. A basic piece takes three to five months, including over ten steps from choosing materials to final ironing.

Pasang Dekyi became (true) interested in the craft when she was very young. While at university, she made up (she) mind to formally join her family workshop. She chose this path  she valued the calm and focus it brings.

Her father, Norbu, a regional-level inheritor, founded the Lhasa Tsemonling Ethnic Handicraft Inheritance Center in 2006. Since then, he (teach) the important skills to over 40 craftsmen, including the disabled and homeless."This is the true (mean) of our work—passing on the craft and helping people live a better life," she says.

For Pasang Dekyi, every piece of Xizang embroidery is (price). However, to make it more popular, she creates modern goods like key rings and bookmarks. She even uses well-known characters such as Mickey Mouse to attract the young people.
