A housewarming is a party held soon after moving into a new home. It is held to celebrate the move. It also allows you to show your new place to friends and family.

The word "housewarming" has an interesting history. Before central heating, guests would bring firewood to warm a home and build fires in all the available fireplaces. They believed this would help drive away bad spirits. Today, housewarming parties are not only about bringing good luck and joy, but also a great way to get all your friends together.

If you're going to a housewarming, there are some rules you should follow to make sure everybody has a good time. First, try to respond (回应) as soon as you can to the invitation. Not only will this give you more time to plan your clothes and gift, but it'll also give the hosts a better idea of how many people they should expect. Second, bring a gift like a bottle of wine or home decorations, such as a plant. You can also ask the hosts if there are any things they need for their home. Third, make sure to arrive at the party on time or just after it's begun, unless you've been asked by the hosts to arrive early to help set up. Most importantly, be polite and thoughtful. If you see unpacked boxes or furniture (家具) out of place, don't point them out. Instead, compliment (赞美) their new home and what has already been prepared. Following these rules will make sure you're the perfect housewarming guest.

Last Friday, our class held a special and meaningful activity—working in the field. The purpose of the activity was to give us a chance to experience farm life and improve our skills. We were excited when we heard the news.
