Helping others is a great thing to do. You can learn new things and have fun. You can help people, animals or the environment (环境). It can make you feel good, too! How can you help? Charities are organizations that help others, such as UNICEF or the World Wildlife Fund. You can help charities by giving your time, giving money or giving things. You can also help people or places you know. 

Volunteering Volunteering is when you give your time to help others. Some ways of volunteering are: 

●visiting old people to talk to them or help them. 

●walking dogs at an animal shelter. 

●cleaning up a park. 

Fund-raising Fund-raising is when you collect money to help others. Some ways of fund-raising are: 

●making cakes or biscuits to sell. 

●doing a sponsored activity. For example, family and friends give you money if you finish a long walk. 

Donating Donating is when you give your things to help others. Some ways of donating are: 

●giving your old toys or clothes to a charity that helps sick children or poor people. 

●giving your old books to a library. 

So, what can you do to help others? 

① In life, many people are always ready to help others and they ask for nothing in return. We call those people volunteers. But why do they do that? Read on. 

②Volunteering is good for your resume. Your experience of being a volunteer gives the interviewer (面试官) a clearer picture of who you are. According to a survey, 1 out of 5 interviewers in the US agreed that volunteer experience was an important reason for giving someone a job. 

③____By volunteering, you encourage others to make good changes. Serving food at a food bank and working with teenagers in an after-school activity are also great examples to make others love volunteering. 

④ Meeting people who have similar interests and ideas becomes easy. The way someone chooses to spend his or her free time shows the person's values. Sharing the same values while helping others is a great way to make new friends. By volunteering, you will have more friends in a short time. 

⑤ "Doing good" is important. Every day we may watch or hear sad news and stories. However, volunteering is a good way to make the world a better place. Even a simple thing can make a difference. If we all join together, those simple things can add up to a big change! 

⑥ Volunteering is never difficult. There is always a group for you. To find the right group to join, you just need to use the Inter net. 

When Qi Hongbo, a respected member of a rescue (救援) team and a volunteer for public welfare (公益事业), died at the age of 47 on May 31, 2024, his family made an important decision to donate his body in order to help more people. 

Qi, who worked as a truck driver in Zibo, Shandong, also served as a deputy (副职) leader of a rescue team in Zibo. Throughout his life, he had been doing things for the public. 

In the eyes of his wife Chang Li, Qi always eagerly volunteered whenever there was a call for help. He spent almost all of his free time on voluntary service. 

In August 2021, when a sudden flood hit Henan Province, Qi, together with his team members, rushed to Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province, to help with rescuing people. Then again in December 2023 when a powerful earthquake hit Jishishan County in Gansu Province, he and his team took action to deal with the disaster at once. 

According to Liu Dong, the leader of the rescue team, Qi kept his mobile phone on for 24 hours so that he could respond quickly whenever needed. 

However, no one thought that Qi would lose his life in the volunteer service he loved. On the afternoon of May 24, Qi fainted (昏厥) while volunteering in Zibo. When he fell, he hit his head on a stone bench, leading to his death. 

In the terrible sadness, his wife and son made a difficult but great decision to donate Qi's liver, kidneys, corneas, and other organs (器官).
