When three men in California were taken to a hospital with strange symptoms (症状), the hospital doctors thought the men had been poisoned (毒害). They felt dizzy (头晕目眩的), tired, and weak. The men couldn't speak, and they had trouble breathing. The doctors couldn't work out what was wrong with the men until they found out the three men were all cooks, and they had just shared a dish of fugu(河豚). 

Fugu, the Japanese name for the pufferfish, is one of the strangest fishes in the ocean. The pufferfish gets its name from the way the fish keeps itself safe when it faces enemies. Whenever it is attacked, the fish blows up its body to over twice its usual size!

The reason why the three men were taken to hospital is that the pufferfish is very poisonous. If you eat a whole pufferfish, you will probably die. 

The symptoms of fugu poisoning include a strange feeling around the mouth and throat, and breathing difficulties. You can't breathe and your body can't get any air. Your brain still works perfectly, however, so you know you are dying, but you can't speak or do anything about it. 

Despite the danger of fugu poisoning, this fish is actually a very popular kind of food in Japan. 

Because of the danger, fugu can only be prepared by cooks with a special licence (执照) from the government. These cooks are trained to identify and take out the poisonous parts of the fish. Most people who die from eating fugu these days are people who have tried their hand at preparing the fish themselves. 

If you have to describe yourself to someone else, what will you say? It can be difficult to see yourself from the outside, but knowing who you are, or being self-aware, can help you understand feelings and make friendships closer. 

Self-awareness means having a good understanding of your own character. If you're self-aware, you may know that you love playing an instrument because you do well in it, and music makes you happy, or that you like watching TV better on your own because it helps you relax. 

Knowing what you like and dislike, what you are good or bad at allows you to make better decisions about friendships, schoolwork and build confidence. The WHO (World Health Organization) says self-awareness is one of ten important life skills that help young people live healthier and happier lives. Being self-aware doesn't mean only thinking of yourself. By understanding your own feelings, you will better understand other people too. 

How do you learn to be self-aware? It is a good way to ask questions. Ask yourself questions that start with "What" instead of "Why". For example, if you don't understand why you keep arguing with a friend, ask yourself what you disagree on instead of why you're arguing. 

Learning to be more self-aware is a skill. You learn it as you grow. So be bold and try out new things, like playing a new sport or listening to different kinds of music. Don't be afraid to dislike something—— discovering what you don't like is a key part of learning more about yourself. 

The Netherlands is low-lying and influenced by the North Sea's wind, which caused floods to happen easily in the past. In order to deal with the problem, the Dutch used thousands of windmills. So the Netherlands became the famous land of windmills. With this invention, the Dutch set a special date and held some activities. It's held on the second Saturday of May each year. Gradually, Windmill Day becomes a traditional folk festival in the Netherlands. 

On this day, pictures shaped like windmills are everywhere. Many shops are filled with colourful windmill art pieces. Children also like to draw windmills on the doors and windows. 

Windmills have different purposes in different states. They bring good luck to people in most situations. When the national flag is hung on the windmill, it may mean that a baby is born, or a couple are holding a wedding. When the fan of windmill is like a cross (十字架), it means that some important guests are coming and that they are warmly welcomed. However, when the windmill is at rest and backward, it mainly tells us that something bad has happened. 

Nowadays, during your visit in the Netherlands, you can choose the windmill museums. Also, you can go to the local windmill villages. There are a lot of windmills around the country, with many still in use. They are slowly running to greet you. 

Technology is developing at a surprising speed. Products that were invented years ago are becoming very common. And the developing speed of technology is faster than before. 

We used to turn on a machine by hand, but now voice recognition (识别) is changing users'experience and our daily life.  And it can do as you tell it to do. Besides, smartphones can also make our voice calls much easier and faster.

 You can sell products on the Internet and get money from the bank directly if you use online marketing automation (自动化) programs.You can research the market, know about your competitors and learn about technologies. And such technological changes in business will help you cut down your production cost, so you will make more money.

What's more, I don't think you have to store your personal and business information on your hard drive(硬盘驱动器), pen drive or DVDs. The information is stored in the cloud, which you can use anywhere and anytime.

More and more technologies will appear. By the way, with the development of all kinds of technologies, we will meet some troubles at the same time. It is important to protect our information. We can enjoy the convenience of technology. But we should also avoid the disadvantages of technology.

Zhang Qian, born in Shaanxi Province, was the (famous)explorer and imperial diplomat(外交家) during the period of the Western Han Dynasty. Zhang Qian in ancient China is regarded as "the first Chinese stepping to the world". 

In 139 BC, Zhang Qian was sent by Emperor Wu of Han to the Western Regions to build a military alliance (军事同盟) with the Greater Yuezhi  (fight) against the Xiongnu tribes together. It took Zhang Qian 13 years to reach the place where the people of the Greater Yuezhi lived. During those years, unluckily, he (catch) twice by the Xiongnu and forced to stay with them for over ten years. He married a Xiongnu woman and had a son, but his loyalty (忠诚) to the Han emperor never changed. 

When Zhang Qian finally reached the Yuezhi, he was told that they were not willing to (愿意) fight against the Xiongnu. the main aim of his task was not achieved, he wrote down the cultures and lifestyles of the peoples of the Western Regions, and for the first time, the Chinese emperor was told about India, the Middle East and even some European (country). 

In 123 BC, Zhang Qian followed General WeiQing in a major military attack against the Xiongnu. His guidance led to number of victories, which succeeded in ending the trouble by the Xiongnu of the Han Dynasty. In 119 BC, he ( lead) a second journey to the Western Regions and returned with Western envoys(使者) four years  (late). ZhangQian's expeditions (探险) provided valuable information  opening up the Silk Road, which helped the commercial (商业的) and cultural exchanges between the East and the West. This (pioneer) achievements should be remembered forever.
