Here is a case that shows the benefits (益处)of animals. John was a speech-impaired six-year-old boy. He had no physical problems. He just refused to talk. His older cousin, Ned, had a parrot (鹦鹉)called Sally, and John used to visit it. When he arrived, Ned used to say, "Hi, John!" We all know parrots copy what they hear. After a few visits, Sally began saying"Hi, John!" when John came into the room. Then, one day John turned to the parrot and replied, "Hi, Sally!" Saying with the parrot encouraged John to begin talking. 

Another use of animal helpers is in schools. In some cases, animals are used to help children with physical or personal problems. In other cases, they are used to teach children to get on and share with others, and even to teach them about animals. 

If you want to know more about animal helper programmes, you can get in touch with organizations like Riding for the Disabled or do research on the Internet. You don't have to be an animal trainer or a doctor to join in. You can work there as a volunteer. People there will welcome you. 

The Importance of Wetlands

Wetlands are important ecosystems on earth. They cover about 6% of the earth's land area, but they are home to about 40% of the world's plants and animals. Wetlands can be found in many places, from small ponds to large areas near rivers and lakes. 

One of the most important jobs of wetlands is to clean water. Plants in wetlands help get rid of pollution and make the water clean. Wetlands can also help prevent floods. During heavy rains, wetlands store water like giant sponges. This helps reduce the risk of floods in nearby areas. 

Wetlands are also home to many rare and endangered species. For example, the red-crowned crane lives in wetlands. Without wetlands, these animals would have no place to live and could die out. 

However, wetlands are facing many problems. People are using wetland land for farms and buildings, which reduces the size of wetlands. Pollution from factories and homes also harms wetlands. We need to protect wetlands to keep our environment healthy. 

Amur tigers, also known as Siberian tigers. They live in the forests in the northeastern China and Russian Far East. Unlike lions that live in groups, tigers live alone.

Amur tigers are really cool animals. They' re the world's biggest cats. A grown-up Amur tiger can weigh up to 600 pounds. A hungry one can even eat more than 50 pounds in one night.

Amur tigers are great hunters(猎手). They have thick yellow fur with black stripes(条纹), and each tiger's stripe pattern is different. The stripes help them hide when they hunt. Amur tigers usually hunt at night because they have great eyesight and hearing. Their eyesight is six times better than ours. They can run fast and travel long distances to find food like deer, wild boar, and even smaller bears.

Amur tigers are in danger. They almost disappeared in the early 20th century because people killed them for their fur and bones. Sadly, only 40 were left in the wild at that time. In fact, they' re still in trouble now because people keep hunting them. Also, forests are getting smaller because of illegal logging(非法伐木) and new roads. It's hard for Amur tigers to find food and move around.

In order to protect Amur tigers, countries and governments are setting up nature parks. Many people are working hard to save these tigers by stopping hunting and protecting their forests. Scientists believe there are about 540 Amur tigers living in the wild today. The situation is becoming better, but there's still a long way to go.

Other research studied pets' influence on children who have difficulty reading. "Their opinions change and their skills improve, " says Lisa Freeman, director of the Tufts Institute for Human-Animal Interaction in the United States. 

 When staying with their pets, children don't need to be judged (评价) by their behaviour or grades. Experts said that pets give children the feeling of being accepted. 

By keeping a pet, children can also learn to be responsible.  They can't just throw them away after playing with them.  Besides feeding and cleaning them, they need to care for them just as parents do for them. 

Humans may live on another planet one day! That seemed (possible) years ago. But now the idea may come true. According to Stephen Hawking, the British scientist, we(human) only have about 1, 000 years to live on earth. It means that humans(fly) to another planet in 1, 000 years. 

In fact, we have found one red planet—— Mars(火星). Experts have found that there is water on it. The idea of (live) there looks possible. Thanks  science, the steps to Mars are getting faster and faster. 

For example, in 2013, Dutch experts started  first plan to put humans on Mars in the 2020s. They (give) people one-way tickets to go and build a new home on Mars. it is dangerous, over 200, 000 people still want to take part in it. 

In September, American experts showed another plan to get humans to Mars in six years. They're working on building larger and stronger rockets to carry (many) people. They are also doing a lot of preparations to help people get back to the earth.
