This winter holiday, my family and I went to Beijing for a trip. We went to many places of interest. My favourite one was Peking University. 

Peking University is one of the best universities in China. We walked into the school from the east gate. There are many traditional buildings in the university. The most famous is the Boya Pagoda (博雅塔) built in 1924, it is a great example of the traditional Chinese building style. 

We then walked to the Weiming Lake with a long history. The lake is another popular place in the university. The word "weiming" means"without being named" in Chinese. Many students like to walk around the lake. During the winter, the lake is frozen. Students can walk or skate on the lake. 

As we walked around the school, we saw some modern teaching buildings, classrooms, libraries and labs. There are also museums in the university. We really enjoyed the beautiful campus (校园) and the rich history of Peking University. 

I hope I will study in Peking University when I grow up. 

People are spending much money buying mystery boxes (盲盒) these days. Usually, there are toys in mystery boxes, but now shops are putting food in them. They are "leftover mystery boxes". 

They are more and more popular in China's cities, such as Beijing, Nanjing and Chengdu. The food inside is near its expiration date (保质期) and will be thrown away if no one buys it. 

Each box costs little money but has a lot of food inside. I buy leftover mystery boxes from an app called Too Good To Go. Each box costs about 3 to 5 pounds (27 to 45 yuan), and there are usually three to four things inside. For example, a box I buy from the coffee shop has three kinds of bread and one cake. The box costs 3 pounds but the original price (原价) is around 10 pounds. Every time I buy a mystery box, I feel happier thinking about how much money I can save. Wasting less food is also good for the environment. 

But the boxes also bring me problems. Because I can't choose what's in the box, sometimes I get the same kind of food. Also, the food may not be nutritious (有营养的) enough. I have to make other dishes, such as a salad, to make the meal healthier. 

Dear mum, 

Sorry I haven't written till now. I'm travelling with my Chinese friend Li Lei in Harbin, then ice city of Heilongjiang in Northeast China. Now let me tell you something about it. 

When we got here, people were so kind and they welcomed us warmly. On the first day, we saw all kinds of ice sculptures (冰雕). They looked like plants and animals, and we took lots of photos of them. Going down the longest ice slide was exciting. We watched a firework show and the lion dance at night, too. 

On the second day, we watched the sunrise, and enjoyed the hot springs (泉) and barbecue s (烧烤). We also met a group of 11 lovely children from Nanning. They were having an educational (教育的) trip. They all wore bright orange clothes and were known as "Little Oranges". They stayed with the local families for a week and took part in different activities with their lead teachers. They could also learn how to look after themselves when travelling. They were so brave. 

In a word, the experience in Harbin was quite exciting, meaningful and unforgettable. Let me know how you are doing in New York.

Teachers help us to be good students and people.  Teachers' Day is the best time for us to express (表达) our thanks.

Teachers' Day is different in different countries.  On this day, Chinese students give cards and flowers to teachers. They usually decorate (装饰) the cards with beautiful colors and pictures.

 In the US, Teachers' Day is the first week in May. During this week, the school will have parties and give gifts and snacks (小吃) to the teachers.  That's because the apple means (意味着) health.

In India, Teachers' Day is on September 5. Students and teachers change(改变) roles (角色) for a day. 

No matter (无论) which country you are in, one thing is always the same—say thanks to your teachers.

Every year, on January 5th, the city of Harbin in northeast China changes into a winter wonder- land. Tourists from all around the world come to visit this wonderful ice and snow festival. 

The festival started in 1963 and began as a winter party. The festival often lasts for one month. However, if the weather stays cold and dry, it will go on for a few more days. Temperatures are usually very cold. They can go down to –17℃. 

Ice sculptors (雕塑家) use different tools to carve (雕刻) the hard ice and snow. These sculptors display (展示) their works in two main areas. "Sun Island" has huge snow sculptures (雕塑) of people and animals. "Ice and snow World" has sculptures of buildings. At night, these buildings light up with colorful lights. 

Visitors can do a lot of other activities, such as skiing and ice sliding. They can also go swimming in the icy waters of Songhua River. 

The most popular amusement park (游乐场) in Canada (加拿大) is Paramount Canada's Wonderland. This park gets the most (visit) of any season al park in North America. One reason is (it) numbers of wild rides. For younger kids, the television characters (人物) are very (excite). You can see Fred Flintstone, Sponge Bob Square Pants or Dora. There are often rides starring (领衔主演) these characters. They are (popular) among younger children. There are plenty of great shows for families (watch) as well. Another popular amusement park in Canada is Playland on the west coast. It has  long history in its city. Playland (have) all the fun of a carnival (狂欢节),  scary houses, merry go rounds (旋转木马) and a ferris wheel (摩天轮). There are also modern addition s in the park, like a climbing wall for kids  a video game room. Playland is (open) from spring to fall. If you never go there before, please try it.
