From May to November, six beach houses have fallen down in North Carolina's Outer Banks —a troubling sign of how erosion(侵蚀) continues to put a toll on the state's coastal villages. 

The most recent collapse(倒 塌 ) happened between last Thursday and Friday after a storm caused powerful waves along Rodanthe. The house was empty, and officials have been in contact with the house owner. Less than a mile away, three other homes had fallen down in September. Since 2020, a total of 11 houses in the area have been washed away into the ocean. 

Cape Hatteras National Seashore said strong winds, large waves, as well as rising sea levels— which are caused by climate change —— are causing beaches on the Outer Banks to wash away. "Many buildings close to the beach in Rodanthe are either partially or fully covered with ocean water on a regular basis, " the
Seashore said. 

It's a problem faced by coastal communities around the country. In North Carolina, over 750homes along the state's beaches are considered in danger from erosion, according to an August report released by the state' s Department of Environmental Quality and Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Erosion in these coastal villages affects tourism and destroys sc a turtles' home, and when homes fall down, it leaves ruins(废墟). The situation is expected to worsen as a result of rising sea levels and more coastal storms. 

National Seashore officials have warned owners of unsafe houses to either strengthen their home's supports or move to a safer location if possible. 

Clown (小 丑 ) doctors are the people who visit hospitals to bring joy to sick children. They wear
rainbow wigs (假发), red noses, and colorful clothes. You might think their job is just to bring happiness. . 

Help children feel less afraid

Hospitals can be scary for children. They see serious-looking doctors and nurses, smell strange things, and have to take medicine.  Clown doctors tell jokes, play games, and use fun stories to help children relax. Their goal is to help children feel better in both body and mind. This makes children feel better when they are in hospital. 

Make parents feel better

When a child is sick, parents also feel sad and worried. They often don't know how to make their child feel better. They try to stay strong, but it is not easy. When they see their child smiling at the clown doctor's magic, it brings them hope. Their hearts will feel a little lighter because they know their child is not alone.  And that helps a lot during a hard time. 

Make the hospital nicer for everyone

Actually, they also help doctors and nurses. When their mood is lighter, they work better with children and build trust more easily. This makes the hospital a happy place for all. 

In hospital, clown doctors show us something important. Health is not just about the body. . A little joy can go a long way. A laugh in a hospital can be warm and helpful for everyone.
