Little Learners' Camp

(Information for Parents)

Our camp (from February 22nd to 26th) is calling little children! Little Learners' Camp for children aged from 4 to 6. They will plant flowers, create their own art, play in the snow, and meet some animals. At the end of the camp, there will be a show for them to perform. 

What to bring

★ You must bring a packed lunch with him or her each day. We provide children with healthy snacks.

★ Please have your child wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Please be prepared to send your child a change of clothes and a towel as he or she might get wet. The towels can help them to dry the hair and the bodies.

Clothes Donation (捐赠) Box

Did you put your old clothes into the donation box in your neighborhood? If not, you can do it right now because the clothes donation is becoming more and more popular. 

"From time to time, my mother clears out the clothes which I no longer wear. You know, we teenagers are growing fast. I think it's a good way to help others," Lin Tao, a junior student says. 

"I often pick out some of my clothes which are out of style after going shopping. Then I'll put them into the donation box," Miss Li, a pretty young lady says. 

"That seems like a good idea. Some clothes in the box are quite new. People can either wear them or use them to make things such as handbags and pencil boxes." Mrs. Wang, an old woman says, "Sometimes I also look through the box for some nice clothes." 

However, there are some problems along with the popularity of clothes donation. Recently, a UTV reporter from Focus on the City has made a survey. Here are the results: 

◆ The box is full of clothes in a short time. There is no more room for people to give away clothes. 

◆ Some people sell the clothes in the donation box for making money instead of wearing them. 

◆ Some communities set the box in unsuitable places. So there are few clothes in it. 

◆ Many clothes are too old and shabby (破烂的). 

"What's worse," one of the staff in a community added, "we quite often see people throw rubbish into the box when they pass by. We've tried to stop them several times but failed. It has been the most serious problem since we set the box." 

In order to make the donation box work in an efficient (有效的) way, our government is taking action. Clothes donation will be better-organized and it'll be more convenient for people in need to take the clothes away.

Times change! The day I heard that the Bright Bookstore was closing, I was sad. The bookstore had been in the neighborhood for 50 years, and it was a great place where people could know each other through their love of books.

When I met Old Tim, the store's owner, he said it was difficult to run a traditional bookstore. Most young people read e-books and more people bought books online.

Childhood memories came back to me so clearly. A group of us kids often went to the stores, spending hours reading there or just talking with Tim. Tim encouraged us to share our ideas by writing them on a large board.

A few months later, I was back and was surprised to see that the Bright Bookstore was still open for business. It was still old, but inside it was like a different world. In an area, a book reading was going on. Nearby, some readers were sharing their ideas on a screen instead of (而不是) the large board. Some were reading on computers. It even had a coffee shop selling nice food. Clearly, the Bright Bookstore was in good, creative hands. Tim told me that there were more community (社区) events in the coffee shop such as book readings and even music and movie nights.

"Well, as you can see, technology (科技) and creativity have brought my old bookstore into the 21st century! I'm so glad to see that everything I wanted it to offer to the community is still here," said Tim.

No matter how times change, there are always people who love reading. Traditional (传统的) bookstores should also change in a creative way.

Do you often ask questions? Children are known for wanting answers to many questions because curiosity (好奇心) is part of human nature.

As we all know, curiosity has many good points. Many great discoveries (发现) in history were made by curious people. People wondered how things worked and how work could be done more quickly. Thanks to their curiosity, people now know a lot more about the world and have useful technology to help them. Curiosity can still help you in the classroom. If you develop the curiosity of learning, classes will become more interesting and you will do well in schoolwork. Even if you're no longer a student, curiosity will make you a great worker.

    ★     Luckily, curiosity is a skill that can be improved. Often, the more you learn about a topic, the more interesting it becomes. To improve your curiosity, get information from as many sources (来源) as possible, when you learn about a topic. At the same time, read all kinds of books, watch or listen to speeches and ask questions.

Don't assume you already know everything. Remember, everyone knows something that you don't know. Find out what it is, and ask about it. This lets you learn something and makes the other people happy by sharing their knowledge. Let's try to become people who are full of curiosity.

To begin the trip, we would like to draw your attention to some safety. Seat belts (安全带) must remain fastened (扣紧，系紧) while the "Fasten seatbelts" sign is on. It is advisable to keep them fastened at all times while seated. All flights are non-smoking. The use of mobile telephones is now allowed (允许) when the airplane is on the ground and "the fasten seatbelts" sign is turned off. 

To help you enjoy your trip, we provide newspapers and magazines. On our MD-11 and Boeing aircraft, we are also pleased to provide music and video programs. On Air-bus A321/320/319, aircraft route maps and short videos are shown. 

Special reading material is provided for children and on longer flights there are also video programs for them. On long-distance flights, first-time flyers between the ages of 2 and 15 can join our kid club. 

During most flights we serve you a tasty meal with drinks. Beer, wine and other drinks are served free of charge. Coffee, tea and juice are served free of charge on all flights of over 35minutes.

Do you like taking a trip by plane? Why? 

Bella invited me to her birthday party but something unexpected (出乎意料的) happened after dinner.

"It's scary movie time!" Bella said 1 .

"Are you kidding? Watching scary things before bed will keep me 2 the whole night," I said.

"Come on. My cousin 3 saw this movie before and he says it's not scary at all," said Bella.

"I may ruin (破坏) your party because of my endless scream (尖叫)," I 4 .

"It's my birthday wish. 5 try to watch it, even for a couple of minutes," said Bella.

Then I agreed very unhappily. We sat in the sofa with yummy popcorn and 6 the movie. For the first couple of minutes, I thought Bella's cousin was 7 . But later the monsters (怪兽) started 8 at everybody in the movie. So both of us 9 and screamed!

I even made all my popcorn go 10 . I knew I 11 find a way to run away from those scary scenes. "Is it OK if I talk a walk 12 the movie is over? Maybe you can tell me what happened later."

"Fine."

Then everything worked out fine. Bella did have fun during the movie, but not so much fun later.

"Can 13 just turn the light on?" Bella said at bedtime. "I keep thinking there are 14 monsters under my bed. There's no way I'm going to close my eyes tonight."

I was very 15 that I just watched for a couple of minutes. Not only because the movie was not so much fun, but also because I was brave to refuse what I didn't like at last.

This is Fu Bao, the first giant panda born in South Korea. She returned to the Panda Center Wolong Shenshuping Base in China on April 3rd. After she returned, working teams  their best to save her. They  Fu Bao very carefully so now she is very healthy.  the morning of June 12th, the panda star could finally meet the public. At 9:35 am, she walked into the yard , looking around curiously. After exploring her yard, she found the bamboos for her in the playground and then began to enjoy  them happily.

Last week, No.1 Middle School  (组织) a music competition. It was a great way to show students' talents. Many students decided to take part in, including Sarah, who is a fantastic  (表演者). She is good at playing the violin. Sarah is usually very  (严肃的) about her practice.  (虽然) she was a bit nervous, she practiced every day to  (准备) for the competition. When it was Sarah's turn, she played a beautiful piece on the violin. How  (优美地) she played! All the teachers and students were so impressed. After the competition, there was a  (讨论) about who would win. Finally, the teacher showed the results. Sarah was the (获胜者)! She was very happy. The competition taught her an important lesson: nothing is (不可能的) as long as she works hard. It was a memorable  (经历) full of joy and excitement.

What will our homes be like in the future? Here are some  (predict):

 you want to take a shower when you get home, you'll be able to let your smart water heater (热水器) start heating up when you're on your way home.

Did I turn off the oven? Did I close the window? Everyone may have a moment like that. But in the future, your home  (check) these for you.

In your home of the future, all of your devices can work together to make your life  (comfortable). When you turn on the lights in the morning, your windows will open  the same time. The lights will slowly turn off by  (they) after the sun appears. 

Your home may have dangers. The hackers (黑客) could succeed in  (open) your door and causing a mess at your home through the Internet. Your home will tell you about it but you can't arrive home  (quick). So people will have to be  (care) of their personal information. 

As technology is developing now, we can expect  (make) our life better.
