A long time ago, there was a big apple tree. A little boy loved to come and play around it every day. He climbed to the tree top, ate the apples and took a nap under the shadow. He loved the tree and the tree loved him, too.

 As time went by, the little boy grew up and he no longer played around the tree. One day, the boy came back to the tree and he looked sad. The boy told his tree friend, "I want toys. I need money to buy them.""Sorry,I don't have money, but you can pick all my apples and 1 them. So, you will have money." The boy was so excited and picked all the apples and left happily. The boy never came back after that. The tree was 2 .

 One day, the boy who now turned into a man returned and the tree was excited. "I need a(n)3 for my family. Can you help me?""You can cut my branches to build it." So the man cut all the branches of the tree and left happily. The tree was glad to see him happy, but the man never came to see the tree since then. The tree was4 again.

 One hot summer day, the man came and talked to the tree. "I am getting old. I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat?" The tree answered, "Use my trunk to build your boat. You can sail far away and be happy." So the man cut the tree trunk to make a boat. He went sailing and again never came back for a long time.

 This is a story of everyone. The tree is like our parents. When we were 8 , we loved to be with our mum and dad. When we grow up, we9 them, and only come to them when we are in trouble. You may think the boy is cruel to the tree, but that is how many of us treat our parents. We consider their love as a matter of course; we don't appreciate all they do for us until it's too 10 .

There is a famous English saying, "You are what you eat", which means that what you put in your mouth becomes part of you. Many experts (专家) use this saying to emphasize the importance of having a good eating habit. For example, too much sweet food can make a person overweight. To stay fit, kids are often told to avoid sweet food. However, a recent survey completed by a team of American scientists has discovered something new about eating sweet food.

"When we say someone is'sweet', we mean they are kind and friendly to us. Perhaps this word can help us understand more about people's feelings and behaviours," said Brian Meier, a scientist from the study team. "Taste is something we experience every day. What we have done is to explore whether we can know someone's character and behaviour based on their taste preferences."

 In one of their experiments, college students were asked questions about their character— whether, for example, they were soft-hearted or not. Then they were asked to list their favourite foods. According to their answers, the scientists found that students who liked sweet food were generally nicer.

 In another experiment, the scientists found that people who preferred sweet foods, such as cookies and chocolate, were more willing to help others in need, while those who preferred non-sweet foods, such as chips, were less likely to do so. For example, people with a sweet tooth were more likely to volunteer to clean up their city, visit sick children in the hospital, and so on.

 The results of the experiments suggest that people's helpfulness or kindness may be related to their preference for sweet food. So eating sweet food might be a useful way to make people more kind and helpful. Next time, try some ice cream!

 Lily and Alex were excited as they arrived at the movie studio to see how films were made. They had always loved watching movies, and now they would get a behind-the-scenes look at the making of What ends with you and me.

 As they walked through the studio, Lily pointed to a large set(布景). "Look at that! It's where they filmed the flower shop scenes!" she exclaimed. Alex nodded, "I can't believe it's all just a set. It looks so real!"

 They met a friendly crew member who explained how the film was shot. "We use different cameras and lights to create the right mood," he said. "For example, we use bright lights for happy scenes and dimmer lights for sad moments."

"Wow, I didn't know that!" Lily replied, her eyes wide with amazement. "How do you get the actors to act so well?"

The crew member smiled. "The actors practise a lot. They read the script (剧本) many times and work with the director to understand their characters. For this movie, Belinda Lee plays Penny, and she really connects with the role."

 Alex asked, "What about the special effects? Are they real?"

"Some are real, but many are added later using computers," the crew member explained. "It' s called CGI. It helps create things that aren't possible in real life."

 As their tour ended, Lily turned to Alex and said, "This was amazing! I want to learn more about filmmaking."

"Me too! Maybe one day we can make our own movie," Alex replied with a grin. They left the studio inspired and dreaming of their future in film.

 In front of a store, a man stood with an unit cigar in his mouth. When a policeman came close to him, the man quickly explained, "I' m just waiting for a friend. It' s an appointment(约定) made twenty years ago. It may sound funny, but I' ll explain. Twenty years ago, there was a restaurant here."

"It was pulled down five years ago," the policeman replied.

 The man lit his cigar and continued, "Twenty years ago tonight,I dined with my best friend Jimmy Wells. The next morning I was to travel to the West to make my fortune. We made an appointment to meet here exactly twenty years later. I travelled a thousand miles for this, believing Jimmy would come if he's alive."

 After some time,a tall man approached the waiting man. "Is that you, Bob?" he asked.

"Is that you, Jimmy Wells?" the waiting man exclaimed.

"Yes, it's Bob. I knew I'd find you here if you were still alive," said the tall man.

 They went to a bright coffee shop to talk about old times. But when the man from the West looked at the tall man's face, he suddenly stopped. "You' re not Jimmy Wells," he said. "Twenty years isn't enough to completely change a person's appearance."

"It sometimes changes a good man into a bad one," the tall man replied. "You' ve been under arrest (逮捕) for ten minutes. Chicago police expected you might come here. Here' s a note from Jimmy Wells."

 The man from the West read the note:"Bob:I was on time. When you lit your cigar, I saw you were the man wanted in Chicago. I got another policeman to arrest you. Jimmy."

Happiness is for everyone. You don't need to care about those people who have beautiful houses with large gardens or those who have nice cars and a lot of money. Why? 

 In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it.  Look for it. When you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health. When you do something wrong, people around you will help you correct it. When you help others, you will have a strong feeling of satisfaction and happiness, too.  If you notice a bit of them, you can see that happiness is always around you. 

 It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are happy, because you have something else that can't be bought with money. As the saying goes, "Life is like a revolving(旋转) door. When it closes, it also opens."

 If you take every chance you get, you will be a happy and lucky person.

 Life was hard for me about ten years ago. I was wondering what I could do (go) on with my study. So I found a part-time job in a gift shop.

 One day, while I(work) in the gift shop, I saw a couple come in with a little girl in a wheelchair. As I looked closer at  girl, I found that she had no arms or legs. She was wearing a white dress and she also had a hat on.

 When they came up to me, I was busy (do) some cleaning. Then I turned my head towards the girl and gave her a wink(眨眼).  taking the money from the couple,I looked back at the girl. To my (surprised), she was smiling at me sincerely (真诚地). I had a better understanding of real life was and was deeply moved by her smile. She (take) me from a poor, unhappy student into her world—a world of (smile), love, and warmth.

During these ten years, whenever I had (difficult), I would think about the unforgettable lesson about life.
