For the past 14 years, Krista Richard has been collecting donated bicycles, repairing them, and giving them away for free through her program, Bikes and Trikes for Everyone, in Moncton, Canada. It started as a simple act of kindness and now it has helped thousands of kids get back outside, make friends, and create lasting memories (记忆).
This year alone, Krista says she set a new personal record by giving away 88 bikes in a single day. Last year, more than 400 bikes found new homes.
Krista believes bikes do much more than provide fun. She says they help bring communities back together. "With all these video games, there's no social communication and people don't know who their neighbors are anymore," Krista told the CBC. "But if you get a group of kids on their bikes, then they get to know each other and then the families get to know each other. I think the more time you spend outside, the better."
And the need continues to grow. More than 400 children are on the waiting list at present.
For Krista, the effort is well worth it when she sees the smiles on a child's face. "I had one little boy… he got on it and he didn't want to go home," she said. "Every time he'd go by me, he would say, ‘You do a good job, you do a good job.'"
(1)、What does Krista do with the donated bikes?A、She keeps them for herself. B、She sends them to other cities. C、She sells them to make money. D、She repairs and gives them away.(2)、Why are bikes important according to Krista?A、Because they provide good exercise for kids. B、Because they teach kids how to repair things. C、Because they save time on the way to school. D、Because they help people communicate better.(3)、How did the little boy feel about his new bike?A、Tired but satisfied. B、Happy and thankful. C、Worried but excited. D、Surprised and hopeful.(4)、What's the text mainly about?A、A woman's invention. B、A woman's kindness. C、A woman's hobby. D、A woman's record.3. 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中 , 选出最佳选项。Melbourne climber Bianca Adler has become the youngest Australian to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma. The 18-year-old student reached the world's highest mountain on Wednesday morning. This success made her a record-breaking climber.
Last year, Bianca tried to climb the mountain but failed. Bad weather forced her to turn back just 400 meters from the top. This year, she did not give up. Her mother, Fiona, shared the good news. She said Bianca sounded a bit tired but very happy on the radio. Bianca told her parents that she felt good, though it was very cold and windy at the top.
Safety was very important for this trip. To avoid the long line of people and getting cold in the line, Bianca started her final climb in the dark. Her mother explained that this was a small price to pay for a safe and successful climb. Being there early meant she could climb at her own speed and stay warm.
Bianca is an experienced climber. She is already the youngest woman to climb two other famous mountains, Manaslu and Ama Dablam. On her way to the top of Qomolangma, she faced a dangerous area called the Khumbu Icefall. Because of other dangers there, climbers had to wait at the base camp (大本营). Bianca used this waiting time wisely. She climbed a nearby (附近的) mountain and slept on the top to help her body get used to the thin air.
After reaching the top, she took some photos and started to go down quickly. At the time of writing, she was resting safely at Camp 4. Her mother reminded everyone that climbing down is also a hard challenge.
(1)、What caused Bianca's failure last year?A、Thin air. B、Bad weather. C、Low energy. D、Little experience.(2)、Why did Bianca start climbing in the dark?A、To sleep on the top. B、To enjoy the sunrise. C、To take more photos. D、To avoid the crowds.(3)、What did Bianca do while waiting at the base camp?A、She rested to save energy. B、She taught others to climb. C、She waited for good weather. D、She climbed a nearby mountain.(4)、Which is the best title for the text?A、A Young Girl's Travel Dream B、The Most Dangerous Mountain C、The Youngest Australian on Qomolangma D、Advice on Climbing Mount Qomolangma4. 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中 , 选出最佳选项。Across China, wind turbines (风力涡轮机) now stand on hills. They also stand in deserts and near the coast. Long lines carry power from windy western areas to busy cities in the east. Last year, China added more wind power than other countries put together. Chinese companies are also selling more machines to other countries.
This plan looks very smart. For China, clean energy is not only about protecting nature. It is also about keeping the country safe. If the country gets more power from winds and the sun, high oil prices will not hurt it much.
But wind farms take a long time to build. Solar panels (太阳能板) can go up fast. However, wind farms need a strong base. They need a windy place and good weather. Also, we need long lines to send power to cities. Sea wind farms are even harder to build. But they can give cheap power to more and more places.
As wind farms grow, new challenges also appear. For example, the parts of old turbines are very large and hard to reuse. To solve this, Chinese companies are finding better ways to use these old parts again. This makes wind power truly green from start to finish.
Although there are some problems, clean energy is still a top goal for China. Wind power gives us cleaner power. It also helps mitigate the energy cost and protects national safety. It makes sure our lights stay on in hard times.
(1)、Why is wind power important for China according to Paragraph 2?A、Because it brings much more money. B、Because it provides power for busy cities. C、Because it protects nature and national safety. D、Because it helps build more foreign factories.(2)、What can we learn about wind farms from Paragraph 3?A、They are very easy to build. B、They can be built quickly. C、They offer power at a low price. D、They make much noise at night.(3)、What does the underlined word "mitigate" in the last paragraph mean?A、Reduce. B、Cause. C、Create. D、Follow.(4)、What is the main purpose of the text?A、To introduce wind power in China. B、To show the advantages of clean energy. C、To explain how to build sea wind farms. D、To compare different ways of making power.二、阅读理解(共两节,满分50分)第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
