Another amazing plant is the giant water lily. It grows in the Amazon rainforest. Its leaves can be as big as 3 meters wide and can support the weight of a small child. The flowers of this lily change color from white to pink or purple within three days.

The cactus is well-known for surviving in deserts. It has thick stems to store water and sharp spines to keep animals away. Some cacti can live for over 200 years without much water.

Koalas: Cute but Sleepy Animals

Koalas are one of the most famous animals from Australia. They look like small bears, but they are not bears at all.

Koalas spend almost 20 hours a day sleeping. They sleep so much because their food, eucalyptus leaves, does not give them much energy. When they are awake, they spend most of their time eating leaves.

Koalas live in eucalyptus trees. They have sharp claws to climb trees easily. Their fur is thick to keep them warm in cold weather.

In the past, koalas were hunted for their fur, so their number dropped quickly. Now, people have built reserves to protect them. The number of koalas is increasing slowly.

Saving Stray Cats in Our Community

A few years ago, our community had many stray cats. They looked dirty and hungry, and some of them were ill. People didn't know what to do with them.

Then, a group of volunteers started a program to help the stray cats. They built small shelters for the cats to stay in during cold weather. They also brought food and water to the cats every day. Some volunteers took ill cats to the vet to get treatment.

Now, the situation has changed a lot. Most of the stray cats are healthy and clean. Some families even adopted the cats as their pets. The community has become a warmer place for both people and animals.

Mrs. Li, one of the volunteers, said, "When we first started, we were worried that no one would join us. But now, more and more people are helping. It's amazing to see how these cats have changed."

My Cat Mimi

When I was 10 years old, my parents gave me a small black cat as a birthday gift. I named her Mimi. At that time, Mimi was only two months old. She was very small and shy. She would hide under the sofa when strangers came to our house. She liked to play with a small ball and drink milk every day.

Now, Mimi is three years old. She has grown into a big and beautiful cat. She is no longer shy. When guests come, she will walk up to them and rub against their legs to get attention. She still likes to play, but now she prefers chasing birds in the garden instead of playing with a ball. She eats cat food instead of milk now.
