Long ago, there were no rivers or lakes on Earth, only the great Eastern Sea. Four big dragons lived in the sea: the Long Dragon, the Yellow Dragon, the Black Dragon, and the Pearl Dragon.

In the spring of 1953, no human had ever been to the top of Mount Everest, which is 8,848 meters high. For years, teams from different countries had been trying to reach the top. But the climb was dangerous, and snowy weather made it even more so. In 1953, Tenzing Norgay was the guide for a British team that included Edmund Hillary.

After the rest of the team stopped, Hillary and Norgay went on climbing. On the morning of May 29th, Hillary and Norgay started their final climb to the top. But, with only a few meters left to their goal, a wall of stone stood in their way. They couldn't climb over the rock, but Hillary still decided to go around it. They climbed between the ice and the side of the rock. Pushing against the ice with their feet, they moved their backs against the rock. In this way, they inched    up the mountain and finally made it to the top.

At 11:30 a.m. that day, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay stood on top of Mount Everest. There is a picture of Norgay standing at the top, but not one of Hillary. Norgay said, "Hillary was the first to stand on the top, but he did not want his picture taken." However, it did not matter. Soon, Sir Edmund Hillary became famous as the first person to climb to the top of Mount Everest.

Bai Shuxiang is known as the "first white swan" of Chinese ballet. She was a pioneer in the development of ballet in China and inspired many young dancers to follow their dreams.

Bai was born in 1939 in Hunan Province. When she was young, she showed great talent in dancing. In 1954, she entered the Beijing Dance School and became one of the country's first ballet students. She worked tirelessly to improve her skills and was eager to learn everything she could about this new art form.

In 1958, something amazing happened. Bai was chosen to play the lead role in the ballet Swan Lake. At that time, she had only studied ballet for four years! It was a huge challenge, but Bai never gave up. To perform the famous 32 fouettés (turns) perfectly, she practised harder than anyone else. She once broke a toe while practising but kept on dancing until after the show! Her great work brought honour to China, and she became a star overnight.

In 1964, Bai took on another historic role. She played the lead character, Qionghua, in China's first national ballet, The Red Detachment of Women (红色娘子军). To play the role of a soldier well, she didn't just practise dancing—she even trained with real soldiers!

Bai devoted herself to ballet for her whole life. She lived a simple life and was not interested in fame or money. She said, "Dancing is my life. I want to bring beauty and joy to people." In 2019, she was named one of the 100 Outstanding Hunanese Figures Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China.

Bai Shuxiang's life tells us that with hard work and love for what you do, you can achieve your dreams.

Yesterday I watched a dance show with my mother. It was a hip hop dance show! The dancers had lots of energy. It made me happy to watch them. Hip hop music played as they danced. The music made me feel excited!

My favorite move was the head spin. The dancer did a headstand and spun around. It looked difficult. I felt amazed watching that dancer. I clapped really hard after that move.

My mom's favorite dance move was called the dolphin dive. The dancer put his hands on the floor and held his body up in the air. Then he slowly made his body low down to the ground. My mom said that the dancer must be very strong. I liked the dolphin dive too. But it made me feel a little scared. I was worried that the dancer would fall.

The hip hop dance show was fun and I hope we can go again soon!

The sun gives us energy in many ways! Sunlight warms the earth, keeps us healthy, and helps plants grow.

 They put solar panels (太阳能板) on the roofs of their homes. When sunlight hits the panels, they change sunlight into electricity!  It's a great green way to get clean energy.

Unlike coal and oil, solar power does not produce polluting gases. It helps protect our environment and save natural resources. 

Clean water matters a lot in daily life, but we often waste it. When taking a warm b, some people leave taps running. If we keep wasting water in this way day after day, e, such waste causes water shortages. If you find dripping taps, please f them at once. Saving every drop helps build a greener f. Save our u planet with good habits, we have only one earth. Take action now!

Li Hua, my classmate, sets a great example for us students. He    (曾经是) shy and quiet at school. Two years ago, he   (放弃) his game time and became careful with his studies.    (因此), he finished his tasks well and made great progress. Meanwhile, he started volunteer work in the community. He   (关注) poor kids' study and helps them with lessons every weekend. He shows us that helping others is the most meaningful thing in life. I     (为他自豪) him.
