One day, Marina the mermaid went to see the sea witch(女巫)."Please turn me into a girl! I want to go to land right now!" she said.

"Why do you want to leave the sea?" the witch asked."Don't you love our beautiful home?"

"Of course I do," Marina answered." But it's not beautiful anymore! The sea is full of litter.The water isn't clear. Many sea animals die. I must find out why this is happening. I want to save my home and my friends."

The witch was moved. She turned Marina into a girl, and sent her to land.

On land, Marina saw many tall buildings and factories pouring dirty water into the sea. A fisherman on a boat threw a milk bottle into the sea."Stop littering in the sea!" Marina shouted at him. But the man just looked away and threw more litter into the water.

Marina felt very sad and hopeless. Just when she wanted to go back to the sea, she saw a notice: there would be a town meeting about sea protection(保护) at the town hall that afternoon. She knew this was her chance(机会)to save her home. So she headed to the town hall.

Qomolangma means"mother of the earth". In the West, people also  call  it Mount Everest.  It is  on the border(边界) of Nepal and China. It is part of the Himalaya Mountains. It is about 8848.86 meters tall. That is almost as high as airplanes fly.

Every September and October, hundreds of climbers from around the world come here. They wear warm clothes, sunglasses, and take tents. They usually climb in groups.

④How's the Weather?

It is always very cold and windy here. There is snow everywhere. The wind blows all year round. In winter,the lowest temperature can be - 60℃.

⑤Yaks(牦牛)

It is very cold here, with little  oxygen(氧气). Yaks may be the only animals you can find. They have long hair to keep warm. They are very powerful and can walk on small paths, so people call  yaks"the ships of the highland".

Do you have a dog? When you come home after a long day, your dog is always waiting for you at the door. It wags(摇) its tail happily. It's like the best welcome party, full of love and joy. Dogs make our lives bright, but do we truly know them well?

Most dogs have a favorite paw, just like people are right-handed or left-handed. You can watch your dog walk to see which paw it puts forward first. Dogs also sweat through their paws, so they sometimes smell like popcorn!

Dogs talk in many ways. They smell each other to learn about others' feelings and health. They also use body language(语言). For example, a dog may turn in circles to say hello, or hold their tails between their legs when they are afraid or sad.

Dogs are our best friends. The more we learn about them, the better we can care for them.

School Entrance Ceremony (入学礼) in Ancient China

September is a big month for Chinese students, as the new term starts then. In ancient China, the school entrance ceremony was one of the most important events.

In ancient times, there was no set date(约定日期) for the new term. Parents would choose a lucky day for their children to begin school. They also prepared school things like desks, chairs and paper.

Teachers were usually very learned people in the town. Parents would give gifts and write a special letter to invite a learned man to be their children's teacher.

On the first day, children would take part in the First Writing Ceremony  (开笔礼). During it,children kowtowed(叩头) 9 times to the statue of Confucius, then kowtowed 3 times to their teacher to show respect. The teacher would draw a red dot  (点) on the student's forehead. It meant" opening the mind to learning".

Students arrived at school earlier than their teacher every day. They kowtowed to the statue ofConfucius first, then went to their seats.

A crow  (乌鸦) was very . He looked for water everywhere and found a bottle(瓶子) with a little water. However, the bottle was tall, he couldn't drink the .

The crow tried to push the bottle down, but it was too heavy. He almost gave up, but then an idea came to him."I can  this problem," he said to himself.

He picked up small stones and put them into the bottle. The water went up .At last, the water went high enough for him to drink.

This story always  me: when you meet difficulties, don't give up. Use your head, and you will find a way out.
