Each part of China has its own special forms of traditional art. They usually try to show the important things in life, such as love, beauty and family. The most common things, from paper to clay to bamboo, 1 objects of beauty.

Two years ago, I was planning my summer holidays. I soon realized what I wanted to do was to 1 animals. I did some research and chose to volunteer at the local animal center.

There are many ways for people to do voluntary work and make a difference. For me, working at the animal center was the best 10 I've ever made for my summer holidays.

A human boy, Billy and his dog, Oscar were walking in a field. It was getting dark.

A spaceship was trying to land on an unknown planet.

In the spaceship, the captain was unhappy. Something was wrong. He sent a message to his own planet and got ready to land.

"Come on!" called the boy. The dog was happy. He was wagging his tail. Billy gave the dog a snack. Suddenly, Billy and Oscar heard an    unusual    noise. Then they saw a light near some trees.

Only the captain was alive in the spaceship. "I am alone, but I will find the strongest creature and control it. Then I will control the planet."

Billy called Oscar again but he didn't come. Oscar ran to the trees.

The captain got out of his spaceship—he felt safer in it, although more and more uncomfortable. The air was fresh on this planet but he didn't take off his spacesuit. He saw huge green leaves everywhere. He climbed to the top of one of them so that he could look down and check everything carefully.

Oscar smelled something. Maybe it was good to eat. He tried to pick up a metal object with his teeth.

The captain saw a huge monster. He jumped onto its leg. He climbed up and went into the monster's head. "Now I can control you,"he said.

Billy found Oscar. He was moving his head strangely. Billy shouted "Come here!" But Oscar didn't move. He just looked at Billy.

The captain was looking at the boy, too. "Kill that creature,"he said.

Oscar jumped at Billy and knocked him to the ground. "Oscar!" cried Billy. He was scared and hit Oscar on his head. Then something small fell out of Oscar's ear and Oscar wagged his tail happily again.

The small metal "thing"was on the ground. The unlucky captain was hit and passed out.

The boy and the dog ran across the field and went home.

My name is Zhang Yufu. I have been driving trucks (卡车) in Yunnan for 15 years. But nothing prepared me for the phone call on August 3rd, 2021. "We need you to guide some elephants," the voice said. "Elephants? In my truck?" With questions in my mind, I set off for Yuanjiang.

In Yuanjiang area, I saw other truck drivers. None of us had ever seen wild elephants. We were given a simple but alarming task: close off all roads except the bridge.

For five days, we lived in our trucks. Every night, we heard stories about the elephants. The group was led by an adult female, with males guarding them. They lived in Xishuangbanna. Dry weather had made them move north to find a better place to live. Now the rainy season came. It was time for them to return. Elephants are very smart. Before moving, they chose routes with fewer people to protect their babies.

But the Yuanjiang River was a big problem. Heavy rain raised the water level, and the group couldn't cross the river with two of the baby elephants. So the experts decided to help. They planned to block other roads with our trucks, leave corn along the way and guide the elephants to cross only the Yuanjiang Bridge.

At 7:30 p.m. on August 8, my radio rang, "They are coming. Stay in your trucks. No lights! No noise!"

My heart beat fast. Fourteen huge shadows moved like slow, gray hills. The leader stopped at the bridge. She raised her trunk and sniffed the air. For a long minute, she didn't move. We all held our breath.

Then, slowly, she stepped onto the bridge. One by one, the others followed. The babies stayed in the middle, protected by all adults on all sides. The 40 minutes' crossing seemed like a lifetime. When the last elephant disappeared into the forest, everyone cheered.

Now whenever I cross the Yuanjiang Bridge, a picture of the mother elephant stepping on the bridge always appears in my mind. It reminds me that we have one shared home.

Imagine a dinosaur in an ancient forest. It is running around, looking for its next meal. With an angry cry, it opens its mouth, raises its beautiful feather-covered arms, and...

Wait, feathers on a dinosaur? For hundreds of years, people believed that dinosaurs looked like huge lizards. Just look at all those dinosaurs in books, films and TV shows! However, thanks to a piece of amber (琥珀), scientists now know that this idea is wrong. In the amber from Southeast Asia, they found the tail of a dinosaur — with feathers.

These beautiful golden stones quietly keep pieces of the past. They can tell us whether dinosaurs had feathers, but that's not all. They also help us understand that life on Earth has always changed. A piece of amber from Northern Europe, for example, holds a flower. This species no longer grows in this area. But the find proves (证明) that it did 35 million years ago. In the future, amber may also help us discover whether other species have changed over time.

Thanks to amber, more than 300 unknown species have been discovered. In a piece of amber from Africa, scientists found 13 ants. Research shows that they are a completely new species. Scientists used to believe that ants came from the northern half of the Earth. The discovery of this African species has changed old beliefs about the history of ants. Who knows whether this piece of amber will tell us more secrets?

As a window on the past, amber has been much studied. However, it's still not fully understood. We should put more effort into research. Then we can use this key to unlock more secrets of nature.

English is spoken by about 400 million people, mostly in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. In Ghana, India and Singapore, it is used as a working language. In China and many other countries, English is the most important foreign language to learn at school. English is now used by nearly a quarter of the world's population. 

Why is English spoken everywhere? Because in the 19th century, English became the language of world trade.  It is now the common language for international travel, science, industry, and recently, information technology and the Internet.

 For example, "restaurant" is from French, "piano" from Italian, and "tofu" from Chinese.

 Many people think that Chinese will become as common as English by the middle of the 21st century. More schools in Europe are teaching Chinese. However, most people still think that English will be used most around the world, at least for the next twenty or thirty years.

So who owns English? The answer is everyone who speaks it — the British, the Indians and the Chinese all help make it a rich language.  We all own English.

Lily is a 14-year-old girl with a strong love for art. She spends all her free time finding materials nearby and using them to create art.

One day she watched a video about an amazing chocolate sculpture. The chocolate was made into art by the skilled artist's hands. Lily was so amazed that she wanted to make one by herself.

However, things didn't go well. To start with, chocolate broke easily when she made it into a sculpture. But Lily didn't give up. After many tries, she learned to be careful with her tools. Another problem was that the chocolate started to melt (融化) before she could finish her work. She tried different ways, like working under the air conditioner, but it wasn't very helpful.

Thankfully, her friend Amy lent her a hand. Together, they researched and watched videos of chocolate artists working. By following them and keeping practising, her skills improved. Melting was no longer a problem. Finally, she created a chocolate sculpture with a lifelike quality.

She couldn't wait to show her work to her family and friends. They were all impressed. This sculpture was also enjoyed as a delicious treat. Since then, Lily has continued to make wonderful chocolate sculptures. As she explores her love for art, her creations bring joy to others too.

Chinese animation combines modern technology with traditional art techniques,  paper-cutting, shadow puppet performances and ink-wash painting.

Pigsy Eats Watermelon from 1958 was the first paper-cut animation. The film amazed audiences  China with its bright colours and lively animation style.

Two years later,  important breakthrough came with the first ink-wash animated film, Baby Tadpoles Look for Their Mother. This short film was influenced by the famous artist Qi Baishi, and it looks exactly like a traditional ink painting.

 traditional art techniques, Chinese animated films also reflect traditional Chinese culture. Havoc in Heaven from 1961 combines traditional Chinese painting techniques with the sound effects from Beijing opera.

Today,  the help of the latest computer technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), film-makers are bringing the heroes from classic Chinese stories into the 21st century.

Last week, our class went on a study trip to the Space Museum. We were all curious about space, so we v this chance to learn outside the classroom, and it really turned out to be an unforgettable experience.

As we walked around, we saw many models of spaceships and satellites. The guide also explained many interesting d about how astronauts live in space. I was surprised to hear that they could also enjoy many different kinds of food and drinks there! After that, we could s our own favourite activity. I chose the rocket-building workshop while my best friend Peter preferred the 3D VR spaceship experience. It was w every minute because I finally understood how rockets work!

In this trip, I t realized how amazing space life is and how advanced space science has become. I hope to learn more about them in the future.
