Last year, I volunteered at a recycling（回收）centre with my friends. I saw many plastic1 on the ground and wondered, "What will we do with them?"

A group of workers welcomed2 . One explained that bottles and caps are made of different kinds of plastic,3 we needed to sort（分拣）them for different uses. With my mask and gloves4 , I started to take the caps off the bottles.

In January 2024, students were stopped from using smartphones in class by Dutch schools. A new study showed how this rule affected（影响）students.

The ban（禁令）worked differently. In primary schools, it had little effect because few students brought phones. But in high schools, it helped a lot. Most students became more focused（专注）and some got better grades. During breaks, they talked and played more instead of using phones. The ban also made schools safer, as students could not secretly take or share others' photos.

However, a UK study of over 1,200 students found that simply banning phones did not greatly change study or behavior（行为）. Still, it showed that too much phone and social media use could cause poor sleep, bad grades, and more behavior problems.

Experts say school phone bans are not enough. Schools should help students cut down their total screen time to improve study and life.

When Li Shizhen was a child, he often followed his father, a local doctor, into the mountains. His father knew every plant and could tell which ones could cure diseases. Little Li was curious and wanted to learn the skill.

One morning, his father pointed to a green herb（草药）with small yellow flowers."Go and pick some,"he said. Li ran up the hill happily. But soon he faced a problem—there were two similar herbs. Which one was right? He hesitated, then ran back to ask his father.

"Look carefully,"his father said patiently."The useful one has tiny teeth on its leaves, while the other is smooth." Li observed（观察）again and finally found the correct one. From then on, he never picked blindly. He always studied every detail（细节）and compared differences.

Years later, Li became a great herbalist and wrote the famous Compendium of Materia Medica（本草纲目）.

The parent-child relationship is very important in a family. Sometimes there are problems between parents and children. For some children, talking to their parents can be difficult. Here are some ideas about how to talk to them.

Be active (积极的). Share your everyday life with your parents. This is a key step to build a close parent-child relationship. For example, you can talk about how your team did in the game, share something your teacher said, or talk about how well you did in maths.

Be honest (诚实的). It is important to tell your parents about your true feelings and actions. Sometimes you have bad news, like making a mistake. You may worry that telling them will make them unhappy. But you can speak it out honestly. Parents are always there to help you.

Also, choose a good time to talk. Talk to your parent when he or she is not busy. You can ask,"Can we talk? Is it a good time now?" If he or she says"Yes", then you can have a talk.

What's more, you should listen to your parents carefully when they are speaking and try to understand them. When you do all these, talking to your parents will become much easier.

Lixia, or the Start of Summer, is the 7th of the 24 solar terms in China. It  on May 5this year. It means the  from spring to summer. As the weather gets , plants and crops grow faster.  across China are happy to welcome Lixia. It is the best  to plant early rice in the south. There are also many old sayings that tell people not to be  during this time.
