Classes compete against each other, and the winning class gets the chance to play against a team of teachers.
This year, the big day fell on a bright Friday. As a member of Class 3, I played with my teammates Jonathan, Morgan, Daphne, Lina, and Jia. We had practiced for weeks to improve our communication and teamwork. Our biggest challenge was beating Class 4, as they had two of the best volleyball players on their team.
The early matches weren't exciting. Class 1 scored mostly through serves (发球), showing they still had a lot to learn. Class 2 did better with more passes and teamwork, but they lost points because of some miscommunication.
Soon, it was our turn. My team and I felt very nervous. Class 4 was so strong that the first half didn't go well for us. But encouraged by classmates' loud cheers, we worked together and communicated better. Jonathan served like a top player. Morgan, Daphne and I made excellent passes. Lina and Jia hit the ball over the net again and again. After great efforts, we won.
At last, we got the chance to fight against the teachers. We played well at first, but they quickly caught up. In the final seconds, Mr. Hennessey's serve won the match for the teachers. We lost the game, but we knew it was more than a game. We laughed and gave each other high fives. We got closer as a team. I learned the importance of communication, trust and teamwork. It was really an unforgettable experience.
(1)、What was the biggest challenge for the writer's team?A、One of the writer's teammates got hurt. B、It seemed hard to win against Class 4. C、They didn't have enough time to practice. D、Class 1 and Class 2 had won a lot of matches.(2)、How might the writer feel in the end?A、Happy. B、Nervous. C、Relaxed. D、Disappointed.(3)、What's the best title of the passage?A、The Star Player. B、The Lucky Serve. C、A School Tradition. D、More Than a Game.3. 阅读短文,回答问题
Our climate is changing, and it seems that the weather can no longer match the seasons. In some ways, British weather has always been changeable, but now it seems even more so. It's common to experience all four seasons in a day.
Nature must fit in, but for many of the animals we know and love, especially our garden birds, fitting in can be a serious problem. Small mammals (哺乳动物) like hedgehogs have more challenges. In winter months, rising temperatures wake them up from deep sleep. They walk around to look for food, not knowing where they are or what time of year it is. They could become sick.
As a result, rescue centres (救援中心) and wildlife helpers have to take care of more animals than usual. And the situations are not always positive.
So what can we do to help? If they appear in our gardens, we can put out dog or cat food for them. Often that is enough to really help them.
My family feed our garden birds all year round. It seems the best way when there are storms or weather changes. But I often wonder if doing so harms a bird's ability to hunt for food. Still, we need to give birds great help, which is why we have decided to continue to feed in summer, too.
On cold days, all kinds of animals in nature are trying hard to be alive. A little care from us can help them get through the cold days safely.
(1)、Why do small mammals wake up from deep sleep earlier in winter?A、They are too hungry. B、Birds make lots of noise. C、The temperature is rising. D、The storms hit their homes.(2)、What does the underlined word "so" in Paragraph 5 refer to?A、Feeding garden birds. B、Studying weather changes. C、Waking up the hedgehogs. D、Taking animals to rescue centres.(3)、Which of the following is the writer's opinion?A、Only birds need to be fed by humans on cold days. B、Climate changes have little influence on wild animals. C、Helping animals get through difficult weather is necessary. D、Offering food to animals won't influence their hunting skills.4. 阅读短文,回答问题
Seeing someone walking on a cloud might seem like a dream. But this amazing situation is real. It is an area called the Salar de Uyuni (乌尤尼盐沼) in the South American country of Bolivia. The Salar goes on for miles, creating an endless natural mirror. The walking-on-air effect is actually caused by a reflection (反射) in a rain pool. And this makes it so unusual.
The Salar is more than two miles above sea level. About 40,000 years ago, the Andes Mountains (安第斯山脉) caught lots of rain and stopped water from running away, creating a big lake full of salt. But the climate change reduced the amount of rainfall in the area, and the lake dried up about 10,000 years ago. A deep layer of salt was left. Today, the Salar covers about 4,000 square miles—more than twice the size of Hainan Island.
Most of the year, the dry weather turns the Salar into a hard, white empty land. "It's just white as far as you can see," earth scientist Adrian Borsa says. "The color makes it look as if you're actually on ice." When seasonal rains come, they cover the Salar with a huge, thin pool of water. The water layer is too thin to make waves. And this explains its endless-looking mirror surface.
For many visitors, this strange place's most valuable thing will always be its unbelievable landscape. "The Salar is an amazing experience," Borsa says. "It feels like it's not Earth."
(1)、What can we learn about the Salar de Uyuni?A、The waves make the Salar beautiful. B、It is a special salar with a natural mirror. C、Climate change has made rainfall increase. D、Hainan Island is twice larger than the Salar.(2)、Which is the right order about the "walking-on-air effect"?①A deep layer of salt was left. ②A big lake full of salt formed.
③The lake dried up because of the climate change. ④The Salar was covered with a huge, thin pool of water.
A、①→④→②→③ B、②→④→③→① C、①→③→②→④ D、②→③→①→④(3)、What is the main purpose of the passage?A、To call on people to protect the Salar de Uyuni. B、To describe a wonderful place, the Salar de Uyuni. C、To encourage people to change the Salar de Uyuni. D、To introduce an interesting tour to the Salar de Uyuni.二、任务型阅读
