Every Wednesday afternoon, we have an art class. It's the most relaxing time of the week for 1 . When I walk into the art room, I forget all about math and science. The room always smells nice, like paint and paper.

Art is an important part of human culture. It has many different forms and is deeply loved by people around the world. Each country has its own special art styles, which show their unique (独特的) history, traditions and even ways of thinking.

Painting is one of the most popular and widely spread art forms. In China, ink wash painting has a long history dating back to ancient times. Artists use black ink and soft writing brushes to draw beautiful mountains, rivers, birds and flowers with simple yet elegant (优雅) lines. In Europe, oil painting is well-known across the world. Painters use rich and colorful oil paints to make lively and lifelike pictures of people, animals and daily life views. These paintings often look so real that viewers may feel as if they are seeing the real views.

Besides painting, we also have other great art forms, such as sculpture (雕刻作品) and handicrafts (手工艺品). The Statue of Liberty (自由女神像) in the US is a world-famous sculpture, and it stands for the spirit of freedom and democracy (民主). Chinese paper cutting is a lovely and traditional handicraft. It is easy to make with just a pair of scissors and a piece of paper, and it always brings people joy and good wishes.

Art joins people from different countries and cultures together. When we enjoy foreign art works, we can learn about others' lives, values and ideas. In short, art is not only a feast (盛宴) for the eyes but also a bridge among people. It helps us understand each other better.

A legendary Chinese painting

Have you heard about a world-famous landscape painting named Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains? It was painted by Huang Gongwang, one of the Four Masters of the Yuan dynasty. Many experts think it is among the greatest masterpieces in Chinese art history. The story behind this painting is also very unusual.

Huang was almost eighty years old when he began working on Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains. He first made a rough drawing of the whole painting in one sitting. Over the following years, he then added parts to it whenever he was in the mood. The final painting was almost seven metres long and it was given to a friend as a present.

Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains shows the beauty of the countryside of Jiangnan. The painting takes us on a breathtaking journey in the mountains. Along the way, we follow narrow paths, cross wooden bridges and pass along a wide river. If we look carefully, we can see people far away in the landscape. Some woodsmen are hidden among the trees. On the river, there is a man sitting alone on a boat. He is fishing. It looks like he is at one with nature, and we feel the same when we look at the painting.

Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains was such an amazing painting that it was copied by hundreds of artists. The original painting changed owners many times. One of the owners liked it so much that he even put it next to himself while sleeping and eating.

Sometime around 1650, something terrible happened: the famous painting was damaged by fire, and it was split into two pieces. The two parts went their separate ways. In the following centuries, they each experienced many dramatic events. One of them even became part of the Qianlong Emperor's art collection!

In 2011, after more than 300 years of separation, the two parts of the legendary painting were at last shown together in one exhibition.

Artwork is lovely to look at and it has the power (力量) to make people feel and think differently. But do you know that when people see a real work of art, compared to just looking at a photo of it. they may experience stronger feelings? Scientists carried out a study at the Mauritsluis Museum. the home to Girl with a Pearl Earring, a very famous painting.

①The scientists watched how people reacted (反应) to a few paintings. First, they asked the volunteers to look at the real paintings on show, and then at photos of the artworks in the museum shop. ②It showed that their reactions were 10 times stronger when they looked at the real paintings.

③How did that happen? Through study, people may experience something called the "sustained attentional cycle (持续注意力循环)" when they watch a certain painting. The girl's left eye first drew the volunteers' attention, then her mouth, and then her pearl earring. This certain order of eye movements repeated (重复) in a cycle. Each time they finished the cycle, their focus became stronger and their connection (联系) with Girl with a Pearl Earring was deeper.

④The director of the Mauritsluis, Marine Gosselink, said that the study shows how important it is to go and see art in real life, whether (无论) it's paintings or dancing. She added, "It really helps develop your brain." The scientists now want to broaden their study, planning to visit other museums and do research on works like Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.

Taking a great photo is not easy and there are lots of things to consider. How do you choose and organize your subjects within your photo?  Here are some tips from the art, design and photography experts.

Find a focus. When taking a picture, ask yourself, " What's the focus?" If you are taking a picture of a crowded street, choose a subject which catches your eye.  If it's a landscape photo of a field,the focus could be a big tree.

 It's a bit boring to put your subject right in the middle. Place it a little on the left or right of your photo. Imagine your photo changes to a three-by-three grid(网格). One of the corners of your central square is where your focus should be.

Create color contrasts(对比). Color in a picture is more easily noticed if it has a contrast.  They will stand out more if they are taken beside a grey stone wall, or photographed against a bright blue sky.

Try different angles. To add more interest to a photo, try taking it from different angles. This means you need to move around, taking photos from different sides, from above or from below. For example, if you photograph a building from a plane it looks tiny but a photo of the same building looked up at from the street makes it look huge.  

Practice makes perfect. Try everything for the perfect shot.

Artist Thomas Dambo from Denmark is well known for making giant trolls(巨人怪) out  trash and recycled wood. He spent his time  (create) seventeen heads in a warehouse(仓库) for his giant trolls in three years. The heads are believed to be around four to seven feet tall, with funny  a little bit scary expressions.

Dambo later added these pretty huge heads to the giant trolls he had made in outdoor locations. These 15-to-21-foot-tall giant trolls are  (hide) in the green space around Denmark. They include islands and parks where there are few people.  He shared some information about their locations on social media. "It's a kind of treasure hunt,  gift for families in Denmark who have a vacation there," said Dambo. "The trolls can help remind us that there are beautiful places in our backyards."

Since 2014, Dambo  (put) a number of the wooden creatures(生物) in the green space and parks around the world. He has  (success) turned trolls into eco-warriors. His trolls communicate with tourists and the world in  (usual) ways.

Dambo wants people to treat trash differently. More importantly, he wants people to realize the importance of recycling. He really hopes these special trolls will make people care more for the environment.

"My  (artwork) focus on the problems people are facing in the modern world. I do hope it will inspire people to take better care of our planet," Dambo said. "Trash has value, and  (recycle) things has more value. It can provide people with the emotional(情感的) value."

There are many interesting clubs in our school. They bring so much joy to  lives. I am in the Photography Club. I have two photography  every week.

Since I joined the club, my photography skills have  a lot. Sometimes, our teachers organize (组织) after-school activities. We take our cameras and visit different places. Whether it's the busy street  the peaceful nature, we always get our cameras to capture (拍摄) the beauty around us.

Being in the Photography Club is not only just about taking photos. It  allows us to make friends. We share our photos and cheer for each other's success. We are encouraged to be  and try new things with our photos. It feels good to be part of such a group. We also organize exhibitions to show others our best photos. Through our photos, we hope to make people think about  things happening in the world. It's amazing to see how our photos can  a difference.

Thinking about my life in the Photography Club fills me  joy. My experiences in the club remind me that true  comes from recording the beauty in the world and sharing it with others.

Street art is spreading (传播) quickly all over the world. You can find it on buildings, sidewalks and street signs from Tokyo to Paris. It is said that the activity began in New York in the 1960s. Young adults would use paint (油漆、颜料) to put their words and other pictures on walls and trains around the city. One well-known street artist is Swoon. She cuts out paper pictures of people and puts them on walls. Swoon didn't start the career (生涯) as a street artist. She studied art, but as time went on, she got bored with the works in museums and galleries (美术馆). People enjoyed Swoon's strong and interesting style. 

Street artists do their work for a reason. Some of them choose street art because it is closer to common people. Some artists try to express their opinions in their works. Advertising companies also use street art in their advertisements. The New York department store Saks Fifth Avenueused a street artist's design for its shop windows and shopping bags. 

In today's world, artists can show their pictures to the people all over the world on the Internet. Many people, however, say that seeing a picture on the Internet is never as good as seeing it live. Street art lives with the energy and life of a big city. There it will continue to change and grow.
