Do you think learning an instrument is difficult? If so, why not start with the ukulele? Three years ago, Dr. Amy Wooley starts a ukulele club at the Beck Centre for the Arts in Ohio, the US. She is also a music teacher there. 

In the club, Wooley wishes students to help each other. If someone finds a song hard to play, she lets other members step in and help. "It's a club, not just a class, " she says. "Learning doesn't only come from me—it comes from everyone in the club. Every member plays a part in each other's growth. "

Zahra Abbas, the student director of the club, is also learning to play the ukulele in the club. She believes that this teamwork makes the club different. 

Most members here start as beginners, but they pick up the instrument quickly. Now, many of them can even play difficult songs. The ukulele is very special. As Wooley says, "It can be the only instrument you need. You can also use it as a stepping stone to try other instruments. " In fact, many of my guitar students start right here. 

In the club, students not only learn to make great music but also discover a lasting passion (热情) for it. 

The kids in Room 207act up(调皮捣蛋) again. They like playing with paper planes and put them all over the room. They are the worst-behaved(表现最差的) class in the school. 

"Shh! Please be quiet, " says Miss Nelson in a nice voice. But the class does not listen. They keep talking and laughing. They make funny faces. They are even rude(无礼的) during the story hour. And they don't do their homework. 

"I must do something, " says Miss Nelson. 

The next morning, Miss Nelson does not come to school. 

"Wow" cry the kids. "Now we can really act up!"

They begin to make more paper planes. "Today let's be just bad!" they say. 

"Not so fast" says an unfriendly voice. 

A woman in an ugly black dress stands before them. 

"I am your new teacher, Miss Viola Swamp, " she says. And she takes a ruler in one hand. 

"Where's Miss Nelson?" ask the kids. "Stop talking!" says Miss Swamp. "Open your maths books!"

"We have no story hour today, " says Miss Swamp. 

"Keep your mouths closed, " says Miss Swamp. "Sit still. "

Miss Nelson's kids do so. They can see that Miss Swamp is really strict(严厉的). Right away she puts them back to work. And she gives them lots of homework. 

Days goes by but Miss Nelson doesn't show up.

How can we get started?

⑤First, make use of meal times. Sitting together during meal times is a good time to ask questions about family history. Second, look through photos with your grandparents. Third, go with your grandparents or other relatives to visit old family homes, schools, or other meaningful places. This can bring the stories to life. Lastly, find a way to write down these stories. All these steps paint a picture of the past and help you know your place in it. 

Birthday Celebrations around the World

 Carlos,Mexico: On my birthday, my family prepare a special cake. When everyone says"Mordida!", I have to eat the cake with my hands behind my back. They gently put my face into the cake. Then, I share sweets with my friends. 

 Michael,USA: When my birthday comes, my father usually put a cake with candles in front of me. I close my eyes, make a wish and try to blow out all the candles in one go. People say it can make the wish come true. 

 Freja,Denmark:On the morning of my birthday, I can see my country's flag flying outside my house. When I get to school, there is a flag on my desk too. Sometimes, my friends stand outside my window and sing a special birthday song just for me.
