For one thing, science fiction gives us a chance to imagine what our future will be like. Anything is possible. We can dream big. Some people think there will be flying cars and robot servants. Others believe we will learn more about strange aliens and other worlds.

Another reason is that sci-fi writers and their work can inspire (激发) us to create the future. In 1945, a sci-fi writer named Arthur C． Clarke wrote about a system (系统) of space stations. In the article, he predicted the earth of the future would have many TV stations and people would send TV programs around the world. Besides, in a short story by Clarke, he suggested people in the future would use a system to talk with others around the world. Amazingly, the short story was actually the inspiration for the Internet!

Science fiction is also popular because it can make us think about our world in new ways. Although many sci-fi stories are set in imaginary worlds or societies, they can help us better understand the real world.

What will the future be like? Sci-fi inspires us and helps us to understand what it could be like in the future.

About 80 percent of Chinese university students believe they have SAD—social anxiety disorder (社交恐惧症), according to a survey of over 4, 800 students by the China Youth Daily in November last year.

Being introverted is one kind of your personality while SAD can be a serious illness.

If you are introverted, you may not like or it may take time to warm up in a group. However, if you have SAD, you will be really seriously nervous when you face or even think about social situations, and this will possibly cause more problems, including a fear for parties or other social activities.

Introverted people will use their free time to relax before or after social activities. They may read or get prepared for the coming activities when they are alone. For those with SAD, taking part in an activity might cause fear or stress. Some may even feel really sick, for example, a high blood pressure or a sudden stomachache.

When it comes to public speaking, introverted people hate the meaningless talk after the event, but they may not hate the speech itself. For those living with SAD, standing in front of a group is a problem for them. They are often afraid that they'll say the wrong thing and some may not be able to control the shake of their bodies.

You'd better go to an expert for advice if you guess you have SAD．Actually, most of you will find that you are simply a bit introverted. And for those who have real problems as SAD, it is possible to get out of the problem with proper ways.

News is all around us. People get news from almost everywhere. According to a recent study, 60% of people read news on their smartphones, while 30% watch news on TV. 40% of them read news at least once an hour, and 20% read newspapers every morning. Young people like to share and talk about news on social media (社交媒体). It's normal to feel a little upset when you see stories that seem worrying. There are things you can do to help with your feelings.

It's fun to learn about good stories, but bad news happens too. For example, reports about climate change (气候变化) can make you feel upset. "Bad news isn't nice to hear," says Dr Aaron Balick. "It is normal to feel worried about these things." Studies also show that we remember bad news stories more easily and clearly. This is called "negative bias" and scientists say people have it because it's a very old way to keep us safe and away from danger. 

If you're worried about a story you've seen on social media, for example, ask your parents or teachers to help you find out if it's true. Another way to deal with (应对) bad news is to put your worry into action. If you find stories about climate change upset, believe that you can help. Everyone can do something to make our world a better place. Also, "don't keep your feelings to yourself", says Balick. Talk to someone you trust, because this may help you understand where your feelings come from and why you feel this way.

Fight the Winter Chills (寒冷)

Winter can feel like hard work with its short days and wet weather. However, you can learn to enjoy the season.

Darker months may be difficult.

During winter there is less daylight and it gets dark earlier.  It's often rainy, windy and cold, so being outside if you are not wrapped (包裹) up properly isn't much fun. Frances Trussell, who helps people with their health, says, "If you draw a picture of a happy day, it's likely that it would have a bright, sunny sky. So you might find darker winter days more difficult."

Countries in northern Europe have even less daylight than in the UK in winter.  People there don't wish it was brighter or warmer. They accept (接受) it and they know spring will come. The Danish enjoy "hygge" which is a nice feeling of being at home with loved ones. They enjoy delicious food and drink with friends.

You can't change the weather, so make it more enjoyable. Wrap up in warm clothing, hats and gloves so you can be outside. Get out and enjoy the sunshine. You still can have fun even if it's cold outside. Think about how you can feel great when you get home, too. Put on a coat, hold a hot water bottle, watch a movie and warm your stomach with soup and drinks. .

Many years ago, in the late days of December, I had been saving money for months to buy special gifts for my children for the new year. Just when I was about to start 1 in the supermarket, I noticed something very special. It was called an "Angel Tree". A group of people 2 this tree to help children whose families couldn't buy them toys.

Space stations don't have normal night and day, and there is little room with almost zero gravity (重力). Because of this, space stations aren't the  places to get a good night's rest. The astronaut Scott Kelly said that he had to tie (绑) his sleeping bag to a seat  the wall just to feel more like he was in a normal bed. However, the sun would still come  the window, so he would always wear an eye mask (眼罩) to sleep.

The astronauts have 8.5 hours a day to rest, but , they only sleep for less than 6 hours. Not getting enough sleep is very  for astronauts. It stops them from thinking clearly.

During the summer vacation, Xia Meng spent quite a lot of time practicing the bamboo flute (竹笛) after finishing her homework every day. She has become a big  (狂热爱好者) of the musical instrument.

A month ago, her school organized a(n)  (不寻常的) event—over 2,500 students, dressed in beautiful traditional clothes, played the bamboo flute together. Xia Meng's school is located in Yuping Dong Autonomous County (自治县), Guizhou  (省份). People  (把……视为) it as the "hometown of the Chinese bamboo flute". There are nearly 30 factories here making Yuping bamboo flutes.

To encourage more young people to learn about this traditional art, the county has  (主动提出) different kinds of opportunities (机会) for them to study bamboo flute. (最近), students from Yuping Secondary Vocational School visited the bamboo flute museum. There, a guide  (领路) them on a tour. They learned about the long history, the technology behind bamboo flute-making, and the interesting stories about the flutes. The trip helped them develop a(n) (深的) understanding of the  (重要性) of this cultural heritage.

The Yuping bamboo flute is not just a musical instrument; it is also a treasure of Chinese culture. Yang Sitong, a student from the vocational school, said, "The culture of the Yuping bamboo flute is really rich, and it makes more and more kids like me want to (保护) and pass on this cultural heritage (遗产)."

As a Canadian, I have been interested in Chinese for a long time. It was a big challenge to learn Chinese well. One day, a book named Journey to the West caught  (I) eyes. In the book, Monkey King needs to borrow a fan to cross the Mountain of Flames.  he fails twice, he doesn't give up and finally makes it. 

Monkey King encouraged me a lot and I  (keep) working hard on Chinese. Still, I have lots of problems, but up till now I  (find) some useful ways of learning Chinese already. Last week, I got  third prize in a Chinese writing competition. I wasn't the  (good) one in the competition, but I learned to face challenges  (brave).
