Helen's parents died in a fire when she was 7 years old. After that, her aunt and uncle adopted (收养) her. They sent her to a new school. In that school, Helen knew nothing about her new classmates. She didn't talk too much and she was shyer and quieter than most kids. That made it very difficult for her to make friends, so she had2 friends at school. Her aunt and uncle worried about her. I started walking more slowly. One day I left my job, and I retired. I knew this was my autumn, a beautiful time when the trees change color and give us delicious fruits.

But the days are getting shorter and colder. Then winter comes. I am older and weaker. I know I do not have many days, so I will enjoy them to the end.

A group of researchers (研究员) found that just talking once a day can make people feel happier and less stressed (焦虑不安的). Jeffrey Hall, one of the researchers, said, "We can change how we feel by talking. Just one conversation (交谈) can help." The researchers studied seven kinds of conversation that make people feel closer. They found that sharing jokes, listening to others, talking about recent events, giving real compliments (称赞) and caring for others can help people feel better.

The researchers asked more than 900 people at five universities in the US to have one of these conversations every day. The people then said how they felt after talking. The researchers found that even one good conversation can make people feel better. What's more, the people who had more good conversations had better days. Hall said, "This means that the more you listen to your friends, care for them, and value (重视) their opinions, the better you feel at the end of the day."

The researchers also said that meeting and talking face-to-face is better for our well-being than talking on the phone or social media (社交媒介).
