Then in the year 2022, its successor, the James Webb Space Telescope, entered service.
Just like Hubble, the new telescope is named after a famous person. However, while Edwin Hubble was a widely-respected astronomer (天文学家), James E. Webb was neither a scientist nor an engineer. So why is he worth remembering?

Under Webb's management, NASA made great progress in its exploration of space. The organization developed robotic spacecraft to explore the moon. It also sent space probes (航天探测器) to Mars and Venus.
____. One of the worst accidents in the history of spaceflight happened on January 27,1967. Three astronauts died during a test.
