Can you imagine a sudden blackout(断电)? Few people have experienced anything like the pover blackout that happened in Madrid on April 28, 2025. 

It started at around 12:30 in the afternoon, and people first knew it when all the traffic lights went out at the same time. All the stores vere without electricity, making it impossible for people to buy anything. To everyone's surprise, people acted calmly(冷静地). Although the traffic lights went out, the roads still worked well. That is because both drivers and walkers showed great politeness to each other and the police came quickly to help control the traffic. 

People had different opinions about the blackout. Some hoped things would return to normal quickly, mainly because they didn't want to lose their food in the fridges. Others said there was something good about it. Because schools ivere closed and there was no TV or Intenet, children ran outside to play. Parks and gardens were full of families having fun together. The children enjoyed outdoor games again—something they didn't do for a long time. 

Finally, the lights were back on at 21:45 and the streets rang with cheers. The blackout teaches us a valuable lesson:the brightest light is never from electricity, but from the warmth of human kindness and community spirit. 

Black Beauty's owner, Nicholas Skinner, was a man who ran a horse carriage(马车)business. One day, Black Beauty had to pull a family and their heavy bags. A young girl in the family saw Black Beauty's tiredness.

During those tvo weeks of rest, Black Beauty's energy slowly came back, Hiseves lit up a tiny bit.

When the day of the sale arrived, many buyers cane but walked away when they saw Black Beauty's old scars (伤痕). Skinner felt bad, as he hoped to make a lot of money from

Black Beauty. 

Suddenly, the kind-hearted man who rescued Black Beauty appeared, looking worried. 

When Black Beauty saw the man, he raised his feet excitedly. Though Skinner asked for a very high price, the man paid and took Black Beauty away. 

Black Beauty's new owner took good care of him, giving him love and care. There, Black Beauty forgot the past sadness and found the joy of life again. 

The mangrove wetlands(红树林湿地)of Shenzhen's Futian and Hong Kong's Mai Po are very valuable. Every year, many waterbirds fly from East Asia to Australia. These wetlands are a key place for them to rest. These years, Shenzhen and Hong Kong have worked together to protect these important wetlands. 

Why are these mangrove wetlands so important? Because they are like nature's protectors. They make a natural wall, protecting coasts from big storms(暴风雨). Besides, the thick forest of mangrove frees provides a perfect home for birds. They build nests there and look after their babies. "Even during storms, baby birds are safe in the mangroves, "said Simon Wong from Hong Kong's nature team. What's more, mangroves help take in CO₂ and clean the water. As a result, they are helpful for both nature and humans. 

To protect the wetlands together, Shenzhen and Hong Kong have used different ways since 2023. One of them is to protect birds' homes with the help of modern AI technology. Thanks to their efforts, the population of endangered birds in the wetlands has grown. For example, there were only about 300 black-faced spoonbills(黑脸琵鹭)around 30 years ago. Now there are nearly 7, 000. 

In November 2024, the two cities started a new part of their teamwork. The International Mangrove Center(IMC)in Shenzhen opened. The IMC does research on mangrove protection, shares useful ideas and gives classes to the public. Its opening helps Shenzhen and Hong Kong work better to protect the wetlands. It also shows the world how cities can join hands to protect the environment. 

Everybody knows drinking water is good for health. In fact, water can control your appetite(胃口)and burn fat. Here are sone tips about using water to lose weight. 

Do your best to avoid high-calorie(高卡路里的)drinks like milk and cola. Instead, you can choose a glass of water. Water is 0 calorie and is the healthiest drink for you. If you miss the taste of sweet drinks, put fruit in water to make it tasty. 

Have a glass of water before each meal. . In this way, you won't eat too much and you will lose weight little by little. 

Too much salt can stop your body from letting go water, and it will make your weight go up. You should avoid fast food whenever you can, because it is very high in salt. 

To lose weight quickly in a few days, some people only drink water without eating anything.  If you do so, you may feel tired and sick. Remember, drinking water is just one part of losing weight. Eating healthy food and exercising are also very important. 

Children in China are often called "the flowers of the country". Many people devoted their (life)to protecting these "flowers". Gu Fangzhou is one of them and known as "Sugar Pill Grandpa", 

In 1955, a problem appeared. Polio(小儿麻痹症)broke out and hurt many kids. Some kids couldn't move their arms or legs well. Gu was worried  them because there was no good medicine. After seeing this, he decided (develop)a vaccine(疫苗). 

In 1957, Gu built a team and started working on problem. When the liquid( 液体的)vaccine was ready, Gu tested it on.  (he). To make sure it was safe for kids, he even  (feed)it to his newborn son. (lucky), the vaccine worked. But Gu didn't stop. Keeping the liquid vaccine was hard, he made it into sweet sugar pills. The work of Gu and his. team was (success)and they saved lots of children. In 2000, the Chinese government said that the polio was completely ended in China.
