Joe lived in the countryside, and he had one good neighbor. They each had a farm and got along well with each other. But one day, they argued and then they just stopped 1 to each other.

After running after the dog for a while, the boys were tired. Mrs. Wilson offered them orange juice. As they drank, they saw her digging something dark from a box.

"What's that?" Logan asked.

"It's compost (堆肥)," Mrs. Wilson explained. "It's made from kitchen waste, leaves, and grass that break down into rich soil (土壤). It helps plants grow."

"Can we help?" the boys asked. Mrs. Wilson smiled and let them put the compost in her garden (花园).

Over the next few days, the two boys visited Mrs. Wilson more times. They helped her plant seeds (种子).

When spring vacation ended, the boys went home to their parents in the city. Then, when summer came, the boys returned to their grandmother's house for vacation again. The first thing they did was visit Mrs. Wilson.

What a surprise! The garden was full of green plants. Squash was all over the garden beds, and carrots were growing under the soil. Still, there was more work to do. The boys helped pull weeds (拔草) and pick vegetables.

"This is fun!" Logan said. "I want to be a gardener."

"Me too!" Colby added.

Mrs. Wilson smiled. "You're already gardeners!" she said, handing them a bag of vegetables.

Koalas are one of Australia's most famous animals, but they often have to face danger when crossing roads. To help keep them safe, a city in Queensland, Australia, has come up with a new idea: setting up "doggy doors" along the roads that koalas might try to cross.

The special doors, called the Fauna Escape Hatch, are made to allow koalas to get away from busy roads without letting them go back. The doors only open one way, so when koalas go through the doors, they cannot return to the road.

A group called Endeavour Veterinary Ecology (EVE) is behind the idea. They tested the doors for a year in the city of Moreton Bay. Michael Hornby, a worker of EVE, says, "With more than 900,000 kilometers of roads across Australia, we need ways for koalas and other animals to move safely." He is excited that these doors may help.

Koalas usually try to cross roads to find mates or new homes from July to December. It is hoped that the new "doggy doors" will help reduce (减少) the number of koalas dying on roads in Queensland.

Peter Flannery, the mayor (市长) of Moreton Bay, says they are already seeing good results, although they have only set up 16 of these doors so far. "This test has just begun, but we already see very encouraging (鼓舞人心的) results!" he says.

This is a story about two wise men—Zhuge Liang and Zhou Yu. The Chinese people have told the story for many years.

One day, Zhou Yu gave Zhuge Liang an impossible task(任务). He asked him to make 100,000 arrows（箭） in ten days. "No problem," Zhuge Liang said."I'll bring you 100,000 arrows in three days."

Zhuge Liang asked his soldiers(士兵) to fill 20 large boats with many straw（草） men. On the early morning of the third day,he asked the soldiers to sail the boats to the camps of Cao Cao's army on the other side of the river. The soldiers shouted and beat their drums loudly.

When Cao Cao's soldiers heard the sounds, they thought they were under attack. However, they could not see through the thick fog on the river. Cao Cao ordered his soldiers to shoot arrows towards the sounds of the drums and the shouting. Zhuge Liang's boats were soon full of arrows.

Zhuge Liang's soldiers then turned the boats around and shouted, "Thank you for your arrows, Cao Cao." Zhuge Liang took all these arrows to Zhou Yu.There were more than 100,000 of them.

People often say we only use 10% of our brains (大脑). They think that if we can use more of the brain, we will have a better memory (记忆) or be able to understand difficult lessons more easily.  Scientists have found that the brain uses 100% of its space!

Scientists used different machines to check (检查) how people's brains work. They didn't find any brain areas that are waiting to be used.  Even when we are resting or sleeping, some areas of our brains are still working.

 In everyday life, people don't use all of their body muscles (肌肉) at the same time. But through all kinds of activities of the day, all muscles are used. 

The brain is an amazing thing.  To make our brains work better, we should always try to learn new things. Taking care of our brains and keeping them active by exploring (探索) and learning every day is the best thing that we can do for ourselves!

A girl told her mom everything was going wrong for her, and that she failed exams so often that she wouldn't like to study at all. After hearing the daughter's words, the mother came up a good way   （cheer）her daughter up. "I will make a delicious cake for you," said the mom. She walked into the kitchen, and the daughter followed.
