They tell us that we won't change our favourite colour as we grow up.     But black is depressing. Light and bright colours can make people not only happier but more active. It is a fact that factory workers work better, harder, and have 9 accidents when their machines 10 orange rather than black or dark grey. Remember that, if you feel low, you can always cheer up your day or your life with a new shirt or a new colourful thing.

Several years ago, a television reporter was interviewing three of the most important people from local businesses. One was a very rich banker, another owned one of the largest companies in the world, and the third owned many buildings in the center of New York.

    The reporter was talking to them about being important.

    “How do we know if someone is really important?” the reporter asked the banker.

    The banker thought for a few moments and then said, “I think anybody who is invited to the White House to meet the President is really important.”

    The reporter then turned to the owner of the very large company. “Do you agree with that?” she asked.

The man shook his head, “No. I think the President invites a lot of people to the White House. You'd only be important if while you were visiting the President, there was a telephone call from the president of another country, and the President said he was too busy to answer it.”

    The reporter turned to the third man. “Do you think so?”

“No, I don't.” he said. “I don't think that makes the visitor important. That makes the President important.”

    “Then what would make the visitor important?” the reporter and the other two men asked.

“Oh, I think if the visitor to the White House was talking to the President and the phone rang, and the President picked up the receiver, listened and then said, ‘it's for you.'”

A good way to pass an examination(考试) is to work hard every day in the year. You may fail in the examination if you are lazy for most of the year and then work hard only a few days before the examination. If you are taking an English examination, don't learn only rules of grammar.

      Try to read stories in English and speak in English whenever you can. A few days before examination you should start going to bed early. Do not stay up late at night studying and learning things. Before you start the examination, read carefully over the examination paper. Try to understand the exact meaning of each question before you pick up your pen to write. When you have at last finished your examination, read your answers, correct any mistake that you see and make sure that you have not missed anything out.

“Did you go skating a lot last year?” I asked. Jen shook her head and looked at me. Finally she said, “On Thanksgiving, Mom and I always went to visit some friends who lived on a farm. I especially loved seeing their big turkeys.”

Until then, I didn't think about how Jen felt. She had a new stepfather (继父) and stepbrother, and had a new town and home, too. Jen and her mom used to live near a lake where Dad and I went every summer, and she had to move up north with us. She had more changes than me.

Jen seemed sad, so I was busy thinking of some ways to cheer her up on Thanksgiving. I told her my plan and she was excited. First we made a huge snowball, and then a small snowball. Then we built a wall behind the big snowball as a tail. Jen mixed some food coloring with water, saying, “We can spray (喷) colors on the tail.” Our snow turkey had a red, blue, green, and yellow tail. We were so busy that we didn't notice our parents come outside. Dad found a hat for the snow turkey, and Mom wrapped her scarf around its neck.

“Thanks for cheering Jen up,” Mom said. “You're a good brother, and you always come up with great ideas.'' A happy feeling spread through me. I began to understand how much she cared about everyone in our new family.

    Many years ago, two friends, Mike and Jim, were walking through the desert. Somehow they began to quarrel (争吵  ) about small matters. Suddenly, Mike hit Jim in the face. Jim was hurt, but he said nothing. He just wrote in the sand: Today my best friend hit me in the face. 

    They kept on walking, and at last, they found a river. So they decided to take a bath.

     Suddenly, Jim got stuck in the mire (陷在泥里 ). At that moment, Mike saved him. After Jim felt better, he wrote on a stone: Today my best friend saved my life. 

    Mike saw this, and asked, “After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand. After I saved you, you wrote on a stone. Why?” 

    Jim answered, “When someone hurts us, we should write it down in sand. Thus winds of forgiveness (宽恕 ) can blow it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave (铭刻) it in stone, then no wind can ever blow it away.” 

     Travelling is one of the most important activities and people have been interested in it for many years. Modern traffic develops fast, so travelling to different places has become much faster than before. Staying healthy while travelling can make your trip happier. But do you know how to keep healthy during a trip? The following information may be useful to you.

Before leaving

    ●Wear comfortable shoes, a hat and sunglasses.

     ●Take some necessary medicine with you. They can be used when you get sick or have other problems.

     ●Do some exercise for weeks or months before you leave if you plan to do lots of walking or climbing during your trip.

● Prepare proper food. Before you prepare the food, the first thing you need to think about is how long you will travel with the food. If you take a long trip, you should bring food such as bread, biscuits and some fruit. They don't go bad quickly. The nearer people can bring meat, fish, eggs, milk and even salads and vegetables.

While travelling   

     ●Be sure not to eat dirty food or bad fruit.

     ●Have enough time to take a rest during your trip.

     ●Tap water is not safe, so drink bottled water and always clean the cover of the bottle.

     ●Keep food in good condition. If you take hot food, you should try to keep it hot. For example, you can put it in heavy towels. If you need to keep cold food cold, you can put cold food in a box with ice. When you arrive, put cold food in the fridge. Remember: If you travel with food, keep hot food hot and cold food cold.       

      People may easily ignore（忽视） that we are living in a world full of different c, such as red, blue, green, black, v and so on. We can never tell how many kinds of them there are. But we all know that colors are very important in people's e life.

The sky is blue and white. The trees are green and yellow. We can even say that s is freshing green, summer is hot blue, autumn is golden yellow and winter is c white. I one day all the colors d, what will it be to live in this world. We feel bored. We can't even tell the d between the sky and land, between trees and houses.

The world is c. And we can't live w colors.
