If a fire starts in your home, you may only have two minutes to get out. It's important to know how to keep yourself and your family safe. One young girl, Shanya Gill, makes an important contribution (贡献) to fire safety.

Shanya Gill is a 13-year-old girl from California, US. In April, 2024, she got a special invitation (邀请).

She went to a US fire office to talk about fire safety. Gill made a new fire detector (探测器) and won first place at a science event in 2023.

One day, the restaurant behind Gill's house was on fire when she was in Grade 6. No one died, but some people got hurt badly. That made Gill and her family feel afraid. Gill thought it was because the restaurant's fire detectors were not good enough. So she wanted to make a better one.

After learning how to program (编程), Gill made a fire detector. It can find hot things with 97% accuracy

(准确度) and tell people about them. The accuracy of other fire detectors are only about 82% to 94%.

Gill doesn't want to make money from her fire detector. She hopes everyone can use it to save lives and buildings.

China's actress Dilraba's fantastic dance performance in Croatia (克罗地亚) attracted viewers both at home and abroad. Through her, the world can see the shining confidence of young Chinese people as well as the beautiful Chinese culture.

Dilraba travelled to Croatia with a reality show "Divas Hit the Road". When the host asked her to describe the dress that she was wearing, Dilraba said it is a beautiful Etles dress from Xinjiang, China. Etles silk, is regarded as the cultural mixture between China and the neighboring countries.

The video which shows Dilraba performing Xinjiang dance has been widely spread online. And it was reposted by many Chinese diplomats (外交官) and got many likes abroad. "Dilraba, wearing Chinese Xinjiang clothing and dancing Xinjiang dance," Wang Wenbin, a spokesman from the Chinese Foreign Ministry wrote while reposting the video on social media.

Earlier, the reality show took Dilraba along with a number of guests to Saudi Arabia (沙特阿拉伯).

After the tour in Saudi Arabia was shown on social media, and the huge effect of the program also raised the global viewers' strong interest in Silk Road culture.

The program is designed to travel across the Eurasian continent for 28 days, going through three countries, Saudi Arabia, Croatia and Iceland, enjoying the beautiful scenery and different cultures of different countries, visiting and understanding many joint projects under the "Belt and Road" initiative ("一带一路"倡议).

Every morning, students pass their homework through different hands, from their class representative (课代表) to the teacher. Can it be easier?

 Zhang Xirui from Shenzhen Gezhi Academy in Guangdong got a good idea. He made a useful tool—a smart homework collection (收集) robot. This made him win the first prize in the 20th Guangdong Provincial Children's Invention Awards.

 This robot uses RFID (射 频 识 别 ) technology to help collect students' notebooks. Each student's notebook has a special RFID tag (标签) with the name and the subject. Students only need to put their notebooks on the robot, and the machine "sees" the notebook, reads its tag and takes it out of the name list. "Teachers can find out who doesn't hand in homework by using a phone APP." Zhang Xirui said.

The robot is the second-generation (第二代) model made by Zhang. Now, he's planning to make a third-generation robot and hopes it can read lots of RFID tags from far away. That means if there is a special tag on your notebook, the robot can quickly read the information of the notebooks. Zhang believes AI is the key to make life easier for us.

When winter arrives, many countries are cold and snowy. The cold makes some people too lazy to take a shower.  So how often should we take a shower in winter?

According to a scientist in the US, for young people, it's best to take a shower once every 2 to 3 days in winter.  And use cleaning products with harsh chemicals (刺激性化学物质) like soap as little as they can.

Then is it better to take a shower in the morning or at night? 

Taking a shower in the morning can clear your mind and help you feel full of energy at work.  .

It will also improve the blood circulation (血液循环) and relax the body, which will help you sleep more soundly. 

 A scientist says, "Hot showers will let you feel comfortable during cold weather. But if it's long, it is actually hard on the skin." The hot water and the evaporation (蒸发) of water off the skin once out of the shower make the skin become drier. So you need to use moisturizer (润肤霜) while skin is not fully dry after a shower.

The Spring Festival, an important Chinese holiday, has been  (successful) added to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (人类非物质文化遗产代表作名录) by UNESCO on December 4th, 2024. This list is for important cultural things that people should not forget. China has the  (many) items (项目) on this list, 44 in all.

The Spring Festival is one of important (tradition) festivals in China. It is celebrated on the first day of the first month according to the Chinese calendar, it usually  (fall) between late

January  early February. Millions of people go back home for the festival, making it the largest human migration (迁移) on the earth. Before the Spring Festival, people are busy  (prepare).

They clean their houses to clear away bad luck, put  Spring Festival couplets (春联) on the doors or walls and get ready for eating a big dinner at night. They watch the Spring Festival Gala while waiting for the arrival of the new year. When the new year comes, people visit relatives' and friends' homes and say
