 Sammie Vance, 14, knows there's nothing worse than being without friends. For years, she has been helping1 kids. She is running the Buddy Bench2 .

 Anyone who is alone could sit on the buddy bench. It tells other kids he or she needs a3 . It's helpful to make other people notice someone in need of care.

Mangroves are special trees that grow near the sea. They are really good at cleaning the water and helping animals like birds. They can protect the seaside from big waves when there are big storms. They also help fight climate(气候) change by taking in CO₂.

A new center called the International Mangrove Center (IMC) was opened in Shenzhen on November 6^th,2024. The center was built by 18 different countries to protect mangroves. As a vital part of mangroves protection, it will help make rules for keeping mangoves safe. People share ideas on how to take care of mangroves and animals that live there. A professor from Tsinghua University thinks that the center will help people learn more about the mangroves and how to protect them.

 From 2020, Shenzhen has done a great job protecting mangrove forests and the birds living in them. People are not allowed to use streetlights because it may hurt the birds' eyes at night. Shenzhen is showing how to bring back mangoves and make better places for them. It shows that cities can help take care of nature. With the help of the IMC, mangroves in Shenzhen will be better taken care of and grow better.

 Soy sauce was invented by the Chinese over 2,000 years ago and is still used in Chinese cooking every day. Nowadays people don't give much thought to the traditional way of making soy sauce, as they mostly buy the soy sauce produced in modern chemical methods.

 Little known to the outside world, a century-old factory in Xianshi town, Luzhou city, Sichuan, still uses the natural method to produce soy sauce. It simply puts the soybean mixture in big jars under the sun. It takes up to three years to complete. Since 1893, the company has been making soy sauce for more than 130 years.

 Water, salt and soybeans are needed to make soy sauce. Natural bacteria(菌群) and old jars make it taste better. The process (工序) allows the beans to naturally produce oil, making a full taste. It is the most special thing of this soy sauce. The factory can only produce about 2,000 jars of soy sauce every year. Also, it takes over ten times longer to finish the whole process in this traditional way. As a result, the factory has faced many ups and downs.

 Luckily, the traditional method of making soy sauce in this factory became an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in Sichuan province in 2007, and was an intangible cultural heritage of China in 2014. "I had the idea to give it up, but I usually said to myself that good things never come easy, just like our soy sauce." the factory owner said.

 One of the favorite classes for Cheng Ning is the weekly information technology class. There she gets to experience painting and playing word games with AI robots. Cheng Ning and her classmates are from East China's Zhejiang Province. The province is one of the leaders to bring AI into classes of schools in China. Students have more chances to learn AI courses(课程).

 To deepen the connection between AI and education, Zhejiang provides AI courses in primary and middle schools. It hopes to help students have a good foundation(基础) for their future studies.

 Many cities in Zhejiang are connecting AI with education. In 2022, Hangzhou introduced an AI education platform (平台) from Tencent. Students can experience AI in class. For example, students can control AI robots as engineers on"Mars" to finish special tasks in the robot project.

 Also, in Wenzhou, another city in Zhejiang, many schools have offered at least one AI course. Since 2023, Wenzhou has developed 700 AI education experimental schools. Most schools in Wenzhou have had a complete AI education teacher team. By the end of 2025, there will be 300 more experimental schools in Wenzhou.

AI courses will become more popular in primary and middle schools, and AI labs will be fully covered in every school in these cities and even across the province.

National Eye Health Day falls on June 6th every year in China. 

Why are eyes so amazing?

 They work hard every day, doing homework, watching television and playing sports. Eyes have been called"windows to the soul(心灵)". For example, they might look big and shiny when we' re happy to see someone. 

How do eyes work?

 The eyes work by seeing light and then helping the brain turn this light into pictures.  Dr Cheri Wiggs says that every night we experience a step of sleep called rapid(快速) eye movement(REM), which happens usually when we dream. Even though our eyelids(眼皮) are closed, our eyes are moving back and forth, up and down.

How can we take care of eyes?

 Starting with a healthy eating habit is important.  Green vegetables such as spinach, and fish like salmon are good for eyesight. If we spend a long time watching films or playing video games, take breaks every 20 minutes to give our eyes a rest.

 The sanfu period (时期) or"dog days of summer" means the hottest part of summer in Chinese lunar calendar(农历). It was  July 15 to Aug 14 in 2024. According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), sanfu period is excellent moment for health care and treating illnesses.

A man named Xu Maolin told his own experience, "I  (have)a runny nose since I was little. I used to suffer from it every morning and evening during autumn and winter. That was painful. Last year,I tried sanfutie for the (one) time and I felt much better. This  (complete) changed my opinion about TCM. I think TCM has a deep understanding of the human body. I want to make  (far) studies about TCM by reading more books. It's important to learn to improve  (I) whole health."

 Nowadays, young people may be worried because of difficulties in life, and (health) habits like staying up late often make them feel uncomfortable. TCM works well in treating illnesses. The  (wise) of TCM in keeping healthy is invaluable. Technology is changing fast,  the traditional medicine is still important. It's our duty to pass it down and keep it alive.
