International Day of Families

The International Day of Families is celebrated on May 15 every year. It is to raise people's attention to the happiness and progress of the family. To celebrate the 30th International Family

Day this year, Family Center will hold some family activities. 

Activities for the family:
☆ Family sports. 

☆Reading a letter to your family. 

☆A cooking competition among families. 

Time: 9:00 a. m. -5:00 p. m. , on May 15th

Place: on the South International Square

Prize:  first prize-a five-day foreign tour

second prize-a seven-day domestic(国内的)tour 
third prize-a four-day domestic tour

Rules:

Each family can choose two or three kinds of activities. When you sign up(报名), you should make a decision. All the letters must be written by families themselves. They will not be returned, so please keep a copy. Don't be late, or you'll not be allowed to take part in these activities. Families who want to take part in the activities must hand in their application forms(申请表)before May 5th or you can call 2877-2197 to sign up before May 10th. And we will provide breakfast and lunch.

It's true that three-roommates from the US had an amazing discovery(发现). They paid $20 for a sofa from a store. 

One night, they were sitting on the sofa and felt something must be in the sofa. Mr Werkhoven opened one part of the sofa and found an envelope(信封)with around $ 4, 000 in it. The roommates started opening other parts of the sofa, and kept finding more envelopes. At last they found over S 40, 000 in the sofa. 

At first, the roommates said that they were very excited. They said they even started to talk about how to spend the-money. But then the roommates found a phone number on one of the envelopes. The next day, they called the person to say what they had found. 

The owner was a 91-year-old lady. She put the money in the sofa. However, her family did not know about the money and gave the sofa away. 

The roommates drove to the woman's house to return the money. When they gave the money back, the old woman cried and gave the three roommates $ 1, 000 to express thanks. Miss Guasti said that they thought about keeping the money at first, but they knew that they would have felt wrong to use it, 

If you feel sad, remember not to watch a happy movie. A sad movie may be good for you. Some scientists at Ohio State University found that sad movies can make people happier. They showed their study in a magazine called Communication Reaches. 

Scientists asked 361 college(大学) students to watch a sad movie. The movie tells a story of two lovers who were separated(分开). They died during World War II at the end of the movie. The361 college students answered questions from the scientists before, after and three times during the movie to find out their different feeling, such as sadness. 

According to the result, scientists found out that people felt better after watching the sad movie. Scientists believed this was because the movie made them think about their lives. Compared to those of unlucky lovers, their lives were full of hope. 

"I want to live my life to the fullest, and this movie made me think a lot, "one student wrote. Silvia Knobloch- Westerwick, the head of the study, said that bad moods(情绪) would make people more thoughtful. "Good moods are usually a sign(迹象)that everything is fine. You don't have to worry, and you don't have to think about your problems in your life, " she said. "But bad moods make you feel terrible. So, seeing a sad movie may make you feel bad, but that will make you think more about yourself and be full of hope in the future. "

②If you do rock climbing, you will know that it is not a very easy sport. Indoor and outdoor rock climbing both need lots of practice. Most people don't know that rock climbing is one of the sports that depend on(依靠) your body and others. 

③To climb successfully, you must know about some rules. One important rule is to always have three parts of your body on the rock face. Another important rule is that your arms only keep yourself close to the rock face while your legs are pushing(推动) you up. The third rule is that the closer you are to the rock face, the easier it is to climb. 

④Rock climbing is very exciting for people of different ages. Once you start to learn now to climb, you will find lots of fun. People who like games such as playing chess and cards may also love rock climbing because they are nearly the same in the way of thinking. For anyone who wants to be in good shape(外形), rock climbing is a fun and good way. Anyone who enjoys difficult games and loves sports may think of taking rock climbing as a new hobby. 

Boys and girls, this winter vacation is the time for you to prepare(准备) yourself for the future. The following are some ways on how to have a wonderful vacation. 

Exercise. You have worked hard most of the time. So you need to join in outdoor activities. You can benefit(受益)from different kinds of exercise such as swimming, running and mountain climbing. 

One day, you will live alone(独自). You can't live on your family any longer. So, you should learn to cook. wash and other skills. 

Go for a trip. In this way, you'll know cultures that are different from those of your hometown. Beautiful sights(风景) can also make you relaxed. 

Don't always sit in front of a computer. It's great fun for you to spend time with your family.

Evan has to travel 20 miles a day to school by bike with his father.

In Jan. 2023, a heavy snow hit Central Indiana. Many stories touched (I)in the heavy snow. 

In Fortville, Aiden Hill spent the day (help)to clean his neighbors' driveways. Last year, a neighbor (give)him a snowblower(吹雪机). The machine helped him clean (many)driveways than before. 

"I try to give helping hand to everyone, " Hill said. "It's important to clean the roads  people have to go to other places to do something. "

Hill isn't the only one making a (different)to neighbors' life. On the south side of Indianapolis. William Beatty was also doing the same thing him during the heavy snow. 

"The things we are doing are small. We just try to make (everyone)day a little bit easier, " Beatty said. "If I were getting up for work on a truly cold (snow)day, I would hope someone could help me out, clean my way and make my day. "

Mr. Brown is a DJ who works at a radio station. He always has ideas. He once made two home successfully, one for himself and the other for his parents. Today he would like to teach us how to make one. First, buy a that you like. Then, good speakers. Lastly, connect(连接) your computer to the projector(投影仪). After finishing all the connections, you can sit there pick a favorite movie and enjoy it. How wonderful it is!
