Helen: Hi, Tom. I called you at 10 o' clock in the morning but you didn' t answer the phone.

 Tom: Sorry, Helen, I was playing tennis with my sister Mary. 

 Helen: I had a problem with my maths homework.

 Tom: Did you solve the problem at last?

 Helen: Yes. .

 Tom: Great! 

 There were two deer(鹿) living by a river. Over the river there 1 a very narrow bridge.

 One day, one of them wanted to cross this bridge to 2 side of the river. Just in the middle of the bridge, he met the other deer. The bridge was not 3 for them to pass at the same time."Go back," said one deer to the other. "There is not enough room for both of 4 ." The other deer said, "Why should I go back? Better you go back."

"You must go back," said the first deer, "because I am 5 than you." The second deer said,"I don't think so. You are not stronger than me."

"We 6 who is stronger soon," said the first deer and he showed his horns(角) to let the second deer know 7 he was ready to fight.

"Stop!" said the second deer. "If we fight, we shall both fall into the river and 8 dead. I have a good idea. I shall lie down and you9 walk over me." Then he10 down on the bridge and the first deer walked carefully over him.

 Jack was a trouble boy. He would talk in a1 voice during school and make jokes about others.

 Once, when Miss Green paired me up with him for the new research, I2 it at once. But Miss Green asked me to give it a try. So , today I had to do the research with Jack.

"Alice, the 3 !" shouted Mom in the kitchen. I didn't want to open the door at all, but...

"Welcome, Jack. Come on in," I opened the door and said.

 Jack walked into my house and said 4 to my family. He looked very polite. Then I led him to my room.

"Wait, is that you?" he pointed at a picture of me on the wall and asked. In the picture, I only had a few teeth. And I looked a little funny.

"I heard you! The toothless girl is Alice, not me!" said my sister Helen beside us.

"I knew it!" Jack said. They laughed ! But I didn't like their words.

 Finally, we started to do the research. I thought it was going to be a 6 afternoon. But what happened then really surprised me.

We read, learned and discussed.7 went well. And Jack was really nice! He listened to me8 , wrote down all the important points, and shared his opinions with me.

 After we finished our research, Jack said goodbye to me and my family. What he did today9 what I thought of him. Maybe I should try to find more10 points of him.

 If you are looking for a simple place to stay for a few nights, a capsule(胶囊) hotel might be a good choice. Providing small rooms and just a few basic services, these hotels can help people save lots of money.

 What do the rooms in capsule hotels look like? The rooms are usually the size of a bed. They are very small, but they have enough space for you to sit up on the bed. Rooms in capsule hotels are usually side by side and on top of one another. So, if you are staying on the top level, you have to use a ladder to climb into your room. There are also curtains( 帘布) for you when you' re sleeping. Although there's little you can do inside your room apart from ( 除了……还 ) sleeping, capsule hotels usually provide other services. Shared bathrooms and dining areas are available (可提供的) for you to use.

 The first capsule hotel appeared in Osaka, Japan in 1979. Many Japanese loved the idea, so more capsule hotels opened all over the country. From there, capsule hotels spread to several other countries such as India and Iceland. China has also seen a rise in the number of such hotels in recent years. And they are quite popular with young people.

 Many experts(专家) believe capsule hotels will become more popular as time goes by. What do you think?

Long long ago, John and Tom lived in the same village. One day, John sold his well ( 井 ) to Tom. The next day,  Tom went to get water from the well, John didn' t him to do so. He said, "I sold you the well,  the water, so you cannot get water from the well."

 Tom went to the king  help. The king asked Paul, a clever man, to solve the problem."  don't you let Tom use the water in the well ? " Paul asked John. John answered, "Paul, I  the well to him, but I didn't sell the water in the well."

 Paul said, "Look, because you sold the well to Tom, now you have no right( 权利 ) to  the water in the well.  you pay him to keep your water in his well, or take your water out of his well right now."

 Hearing Paul's words, John  that he couldn't cheat(欺骗) Tom  longer.

 Jack is a 14-year-old boy. He has a big family, but he doesn't think his family life is happy.

 Jack and his brother and sister often fight( 争吵 ) with each other for many reasons. Those fights really influence his daily life. However, he doesn't know what to do.

 Tom is Jack's classmate. He also has a big family. Tom never fights with his two brothers. They always have big smiles on their faces. Jack thinks that is strange.

 One day, Jack asked Tom why he and his brothers could get on well with each other. Tom smiled and asked Jack to go home with him. As they entered the house, Tom's elder brother saw them. "Hi, Jack and Tom," he said, "why not come here and share some ice cream with me?" At that time, Tom's younger brother came out of his room. When he saw Tom , he looked very excited and said, Oh, Tom! I have a story to tell you. It's very interesting!"

 Tom's happy life was quite impressive ( 令人印象深刻的 ) for Jack. After thinking for a while, he understood that Tom's secret of having a good relationship with his brothers was to share. Sharing all their food and stories with each other made their life happy.
