We were happy to turn geography into a game. Learning about places and maps is 3 , but this made it exciting.

After leaving school, Kate came to San Diego, a city with few green plants and bad air. Kate made a decision to better the air of the city, so she brought different kinds of trees to San Diego and called on her friends to plant trees with her. With hard work, they made Balboa Park in San Diego a beautiful and fantastic garden. Kate is also known as the" Mother of Balboa Park". 

Do you find that your dinners with your parents are less happy than before? Do you find it easier to chat in the past but now it's difficult? Do you and your parents often disagree on things? You're not alone. Many kids and their parents have such experiences. 

When you're growing up, your body changes a lot. You might worry about getting taller or heavier than your friends, or about your voice changing or getting spots on your face. When you feel worried, you might get angry at your parents sometimes. 

It's also hard to balance(平衡) your feelings as you grow up. You get to a strange time called middle ground— no longer a small child but not quite an adult(成人). You want to do things by yourself more, but you still need your parents' love and help. You want to make decisions by yourself, but your parents might not always agree. This can make you feel sad. 

But don't worry too much about arguments with your parents. Many kids have them too. The most important thing is to talk to them. Tell them how you feel, even if it's hard. They might not agree with you right away, but if you keep talking and listening to each other, you can find a way to make things better. 

Remember, your parents love you and want to help you. Sometimes they forget how hard it is to grow up. But if you keep talking to them and trying to understand each other, you can work things out. So keep trying, and you'll find that you and your parents can get along just fine. 

Ruth Wakefield was a cook. In the 1930s, she and her husband had the famous Toll House restaurant in Massachusetts. People loved the restaurant because of the delicious food, especially Ruth's desserts(甜点). 

Ruth was good at cooking. She could taste a dish and make it without a recipe(配方). She loved trying new things and often traveled to different countries to taste new foods. After travelling, she wanted to create(创造) a new kind of cookie. 

One day, Ruth had an idea to use chocolate in a different way. She decided to break it into pieces and mix it into cookie dough(面团). After many tries, she finally created the chocolate chip cookie, which sold well at the restaurant. People loved it very much and they asked for the recipe to make it at home.

Ruth's cookie became famous, so a radio show invited her to talk about it. And later the recipe was even in the newspaper. Because of Ruth, chocolate chip cookies became a popular snack for many people. Some companies started making their own chocolate chips and cookies and put the Toll House name and Ruth's recipe on bags of chocolate chips and cookies. The next time you enjoy a chocolate chip cookie, remember Ruth Wakefield and her love for cooking and creating with new tastes. 

Giving gifts to other people is common in our life, but sometimes it is difficult to give right gifts. How do we choose the right one? Let me tell you. 

Will you always think a lot about how much you spend on a gift? But spending more does not always mean a good gift. In fact, most people don't care about the price of the gift. 

Sometimes we often shop for something special as gifts, but this may lead us to miss the things that people really want and need. It may make us buy them an improper(不合适的) gift. Don't forget about some normal things because they can also be good gifts.

Asking people what they want is a useful way to choose a right gift. A study shows that people are happier for gifts they ask for than ones they don't need. It seems that the easiest way to make a person happy with a gift is asking them what they want.

In 2024, a big party happened in Paris, France. It was called the Olympic Games! People from all over the world played sports and  their excitement together. 

The Olympics had special friends called mascots(吉祥物). They were cute characters that showed the spirit of the games. Everyone loved the mascots  they were lovely and made the games more fun. 

People were happy and cheered happily for all the  . The 2024 Olympics were not just about who could run  or jump highest. It was also about  enjoying the fun of sports. 

When I turned nine, my parents surprised me with a bird from a pet shop. I named him Bubba, and I was ( excite) to have a new friend. 

But soon, the excitement went away. As a kid, I didn't know how much work it takes  ( look) after a bird. My parents didn't know, either. Bubba lived in  small, dirty cage. He couldn't fly around as he wanted. The bird ended up living a much ( short) life than living in the wild. It's a sad story. ( unlucky), it's a common story. Birds shouldn't be living in cages, but lots  them do. Many people don't look after these birds ( good) and they die young. 

A lot of people buy birds without thinking too much, just like my family did. Birds can get really sad and lonely in cages, and sometimes they even hurt ( them) by pulling out their feathers. 

So,  can we help? It's easy! Please don't go to the stores that just put birds in cages as ( pet). And tell your friends and family that birds are for the sky, not for cages.
