 The Lisu's Kuoshi Festival(傈傈族阔时节) is one of the most fantastic ethnic (民族的) festivals in Yunnan province. Kuoshi is local Lisu language, which means New Year. It usually falls between the last ten- day period of December and January of the next year. People often get together to celebrate the coming new year!

 In the morning, the breathtaking " Climbing Ladder of Knives" starts the celebration. The well- trained barefoot Lisu man climb up a 20- meter- high ladder made of 36 sharpened knives. Those who climb the ladder are called " Nipa", which means wizard(巫婆). They are also regarded as heroes in their village. At the top of the ladder, Nipas perform some extremely difficult activities and win warm applause (掌声) from the audience.

 In the afternoon, the organizers ho id some wonderful competitions and ceremonies for festival- goers, including bamboo- pole climbing, horse- riding, crossbow shooting. People from different age groups enthusiastically join in the competitions, showing their special skills to other people.

 In the evening, there are also various exciting activities. The villagers get together around the fire, enjoying homemade rice wine, performing their folk songs and dances. The celebration often reaches almost the whole night.

 Kuoshi Festival is an ethnic carnival when the Lisu people throw themselves in joyful celebration. The exciting and wonderful activities show the colorful lifestyle, bravery and enthusiasm of the Lisu ethnic.

 You are walking down the street. Suddenly it starts to rain and you don't have an umbrella. What do you do? Run or walk?

 Most people would rather run because it will get you out of the rain faster. But if you run, you also run into more raindrops. So, what should you do?

 Things are more complicated(复杂的) than you might think. Franco Bocci, a professor at the University of Brescia in Italy, found that whether you should travel slowly or quickly in the rain depends on the wind direction and your body shape, according to the BBC

 When there is no wind, and the rain lands directly on you, Bocci suggests that you should run and hide as fast as possible. But if the wind comes from behind and blows the rain onto your back, the best thing to do is to walk at the same speed as the wind. This way , both your front and back will stay mostly dry.

 This is not all. When the wind blows in from the side, you' ll have to think about one more thing— your body shape. Thinner people are hit by fewer raindrops. In this case, a fatter person had better run while a thinner person should still try to match their speed to the wind.

" In general, the best thing is to run, as fast as you can- not always, but in general ." Bocci told BBC News," If you' re really thin, it's more probable that there will be a best speed. Otherwise , it is better to run fast."

Now you know what to do next time the rain catches you in the middle of the street. But the best way to stay dry is still to carry an umbrella.

 That cold January night, I was growing sick of my life in San Francisco. There I was walking home at I am in the morning after a tiring practice at the theatre. With opening night only a week away,I was still learning my lines(台词). I was having trouble dealing with my part- time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and San Francisco. City life had become too much for me.

 As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away any possible robbers(强盗). Very few people were still out except a few sad- looking homeless people under blankets(毯子).

 About a block from my apartment, I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight. Still, the noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling to the sidewalk.

 Suddenly I wasn't cold or tired anymore. I ran out of the door and back to where I'd heard the noise. Although I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found.

 Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard the garbage truck pull up to the sidewalk next to me. When a voice called from the inside," Alisa Camacho?"I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened, and out jumped a small red- haired man with a cheerful look in his eyes." Is this what you' re looking for?" he asked, holding up a small square shape.

 It was nearly 3 am by the time I got into bed. I wouldn't get much sleep that night, but I had got my wallet back. I also had got back some enjoyment of city life.

 With the development of our society(社会), many families become rich. This development brings us many benefits. For example, we do not have to worry about basic life like food, water and clothing any longer.  While life becomes more comfortable, many children become" giant babies(巨婴) ", depending on their parents for everything.

 Yesterday, I read a report that said many students in a middle school in Hongzhou didn't know how to tie their shoes.  Tying shoes is a basic life skill. Why couldn't these teenagers do such a simple thing?

I think there are two main reasons. First, parents must shoulder the blame(指责). In my opinion, parents should leave their children to do some basic things— such as tying shoes, washing clothes and heating meals. How can children learn these basic life skills if their parents do everything for them? Second, school are to blame. These days, school are paying too much attention to students' marks.

 But, above all, children themselves must realize that it is terrible to become" giant babies".

 It is time for us to take action to stop more children from becoming " giant babies".

I'm Karol, a 19- year- old student from Honduras. For me, volunteering has been like a school of life where I' ve learned a lot about myself . When I was 13, I started my volunteer work by(修理) bikes. In the neighborhood, I took (无论什么) action was needed to help others.

 We can find Chinese people growing vegetable tirelessly in every corner of the world. When the Chinese move into a house in  foreign country, they always grow vegetables in the garden. Even at the frozen South Pole(南极), there's a" vegetable greenhouse" bulit up by the members of Zhongshan Scientific Research Station, which (true) provides enough vegetables. Such a difficult situation cannot stop those scientists love for vegetable growing.

 more cheap and fresh vegetables are being placed on the shelves of supermarkets, the Chinese people's love for growing vegetables themselves never goes away. Besides, some people even bulid virtual(虚拟的) farms in smart phone (get) the pleasure of growing vegetables.
