Today, as I was shopping at Woolworths, a kind worker surprised me with a beautiful bunch of flowers. It was an unexpected act of 1 that showed me the power of simple words.

When you want to buy a pair of running shoes, will you choose Nike or Li- Ning? It's a choice between local and foreign brands. According to a recent survey, Chinese people generally prefer buying local brands over foreign brands. They are drawn by the low price, good quality and creative design.

Some Chinese brands have risen in recent years. They have even started to win some fans abroad. A worldwide survey by a research group showed that 71 percent of customers said Chinese brands were important to them.

Chinese brands like Huawei, Xiaomi，DJI, Feiyue, Li-Ning, Shein and Huaxizi have all become more popular overseas. For example, Huawei is the world's second-biggest mobile phone company, Timereported. Shein, a"fast fashion" brand, saw its operating income*(收入) reach more than 10 billion dollars last year, a 100-percent increase over 2023, according to Global Times. It has grown at this rate for eight years in a row. European customers say so many years of continuous increase is unbelievable. The brand is affordable, fashionable and of high quality.

In the future,Chinese brands will continue to develop. "Thanks to the bigger market, improved technology and better producing, this is the best period for the development of local brands." Yan Qiang,a partner with Beijing-based Hejun Consulting，told Global Times.

If someone said they'd pay you $1,800 to stay off social media(社交媒体) for 6 years, would you do it? Could you? An American mom challenged her son to do just that, and he succeeded.

Sivert Klefsaas is the youngest of Lorna Gold-strand Klefsaas' four children, and his three older sisters all used social media growing up. It was influencing their feelings, as well as their friendships. So, Lorna thought, "If I could, I'd be willing to do whatever to keep Sivert off social media as long as I could, whatever that looks like." And that's where the idea for this challenge came from.

It all started when Lorna heard about a similar "16 for 16 challenge" on the radio, where a mother called Amanda Green gave her daughter Teresa $1,600 when sheturned 16 if she stayed off social media. So, Lorna decided to create her own "18 for 18 challenge". Not only did Sivert

finally complete this challenge, but he would do it again, too. 

"It wasn't too difficult to live without social media, and I didn't think about it much during the 6 years," Sivert said. "As time went on, it was more of a pride thing."

He had his friends keep him up to date on the latest information. Sivert added, "I got to avoid all the unnecessary things that were on there. It also meant I had more time to focus on my grades and sports instead."

Now that he's done with the challenge, Sivert joined Instagram, but has no plans to let social media define (定义) him. 

"Social media is great. We certainly need to use it,"Sivert said."But also make sure you

spend time in other areas of your life, especially those personal relationships."

Still, Lorna is proud of her son's success. "We are certainly not against social media, but it's the healthy using of it," Lorna told CNN.

①When someone says you're humorous, it means you are given a great gift — a sense of humor. It is generally considered the most valuable personality(个性). A person without humor is just like a spring without flowers, or like a dish without salt. In a way, your personality lies in your sense of humor. 

②Humor answers your question and makes you think outside the box. One day, a young painter went to visit the famous German painter Adolpyh Menzel and said to him, "I can't understand why I only spend one day on a painting but have to wait for one year to sell it out?" Menzel said, "My dear, please try to turn upside down your mind. If you spend one year on it, you can sell it in a day." With these humorous words, your worries may go away like smoke, and you could be full of energy once again.

③Humor can help you when you are under provocation. Sometimes, people make trouble on purpose. One day the famous German poet Goethe met a critic(批评家) in a small road. The critic said to Goethe, "You know, I've never given a way to a stupid man." Goethe answered, "But I am the opposite of you." Then he moved on his side and let the critic pass by. As you see, humor gives a lesson to those who want to laugh at others. 

④People with a good sense of humor may become wise and creative. People with a good sense of humor look happier and healthier. A sense of humor is really one of the keys to happiness. It gives hope and pleasure to life to make it worth living.

Nearly all students want to have a good memory so that they can study well. Yan Jiashuo, a young girl, is quite lucky. She has  (收到)the honour(荣誉)of"International Master of Memory". (大约) 300 people have been honoured as masters. Yan Jiashuo is the (年轻的)among them. Yan Jiashuo always has a good memory. And the good memory comes from good (训练).When she was 4 years old, her parents asked her to recite(背诵)  (古代的) poems and books. She has practised a lot. So when she is at school, it is easy and quick for her to recite (课文、文本)in class. What's more, she loves reading. Yan Jiashuo is good at not only Chinese and maths but also interested in (物理) and chemistry . For her, numbers are not boring at all. She can make up stories with these numbers. She  (认为) the process of remembering a lot of numbers as watching a movie. Every group of two numbers is (想象) to be a picture of the story. And these pictures are made up into a movie in her mind. She said everyone was(能够) to have a good memory by hard work and there were plenty of ways to improve your memory.

What do Chinese young people think of the idea of filial piety (孝道)?

We have a saying that "filial piety is the first of the hundred virtues (百善孝为先)". So you know how  (importance) it is for the Chinese to respect and take care of their parents.

My mom has  (set) a good example for me. Every week she goes to visit her mom  takes care of her. Then I got the idea to care for my mom as well.

In my opinion, filial piety is  natural thing. Our parents do so many things for us. It's natural that we feel thankful and want  (pay) them back. As teenagers, filial piety may just mean not always arguing with parents, and trying to make them happy by behaving well.

In China, many schools have  (activity) to promote filial piety, such as cooking for parents, helping wash their feet or writing a "thank you card". By doing these things we develop  (deep) love for our parents than before!

Confucius believed  only if everyone is good to their parents can they be good to other people. Then there won't be many fights. Then we could bring peace to the world. I think this is a great idea. It means that filial piety is about  (love) not only your parents but also everyone!

So I think we all should try  (we) best to be good to our parents. Be there for them when they feel lonely. Help them with housework. Give money to them when they need it. These are all actions of the greatest kindness.

Few things are as wonderful as visiting a beautiful natural place. But there should be rules to keep people from accidentally harming nature. The following rules encourage people to both enjoy and protect the great outdoors.

. This means more than just deciding which day to go. Check the weather forecast, choose what clothing to wear, and think about a water supply (供应).

 . Never leave rubbish behind. Don't abandon your food bags or leftovers. What you take in, take out.

        . Build your fire only in a right place. Check on the conditions of the area before going there. Also, never build a fire when it's too dry or windy.

.You should stay at least 100 meters away from wildlife. Getting too close could be dangerous. Don't feed animals anything. Human food isn't good for them, and becoming comfortable with humans is dangerous for them. They may forget how to survive in the wild or become less afraid of humans.

. Don't make loud noises or play loud music when you're in natural environments. It annoys other people. Don't travel in large groups as it makes it troublesome for people to move around.

Following these rules can help everyone share the outdoors comfortably. We all need to take care of the earth we know and love.
