Mr. Worth liked spending time with his grandson, Shawn. He enjoyed teaching him some of the things that couldn't be 1 at school. Grandfathers always have a close relationship with their grandchildren.They pass down wisdom(智慧) that will be 2  to the younger generations .

Big Dog was his favorite stuffed(填充的) animal.Grandpa won it for him at the fair when he was five years old. Jet was eight now, and he didn't need to sleep with it or anything. But he did need it.He needed it to sit on the shelf above his bed—the shelf that was now burnt by the house fire.

"I'm not sure what the cleaners could save," Mom said sadly."They said they weren't able to save our photo albums(相册).I sure will miss those pictures."

At school, Jet tried to focus on his schoolwork all day, but he couldn't ta ke his mind o ff Big Dog. In the art class, Mr. Light said they could work on whatever they wished.Jet looked at an empty page and remembered how sad his mom was about the photo albums. Most things could be replaced at the store. But the pictures were gone forever. He knew what he could draw. Jet drew several pictures of spending time happily with his family. By the time class was  over,Jet  had  had  a  small  album sketched out (草拟).

When Jet's mom picked him up from school, Jet was excited to see Big Dog was in the car.

"Mom, I have a surprise for you too," Jet said and gave her a hug. As Jet's mom saw the album, she laughed and cried.

"Looks as if there's room for one more picture,"Mom said, smiling."Do you mind if I draw it?"

"Of course not,"Jet said.

Jet's mother drew a picture of them sitting in the car looking through their first photo album with Big Dog after the fire.

"I love it, Mom!" Jet said happily."Let's go home and see what other surprises we can find."

One day, you open the fridge and find some moldy (发霉的) food. But before you can throw it away,your mother stops you. She doesn't want to waste food. She cuts off the moldy part and eats the rest. Is it safe to do this?

Most kinds of mold (霉菌) are bad for us. It can grow on almost all kinds of food. Mold is usually green, white, black or grey. Mold makes food soft and changes its color. Moldy food tastes quite bad and it's not safe to eat. So how do you deal with

this situation?

If you find mold in soft food, just throw it away. Soft food, such as bread, tomatoes or hot dogs, usually contains(包含) water. This allows mold to easily grow below its surface. Bacteria ( 细菌) can also grow along with it. It's easy to remove mold from hard food. The mold can't grow very deeply inside this kind of food. You

should cut about 2.5 cm around and below the mold to remove it. It's OK to cut the moldy parts out of hard food and eat the rest. But if the food is completely covered with mold,you should still throw it away.

But some kinds of mold have good influence. Some kinds of mold can be used to make food. For example,penicillia(青霉菌) can be used to make many different kinds of cheeses, such as blue cheese. These cheeses are safe to eat and they're quite delicious as well.

When answering the phone, it's important for you to have polite and friendly manners. But do you know how to answer the phone properly? 

First, it's best to answer the phone after 2 or 3 ringtones(铃声). If you let it ring more than 3 times, the caller may become impatient and think you're not available now. And the caller may not have enough time to organize his or her thought.

Second, answer the phone in a quiet environment. So you can hear the person talking to you, and the person can hear you too.

After picking up the phone, greet the person politely first. If you don't know who is calling. you can first say "Hello" and give your name. Once the caller has introduced himself or herself, you can address(称呼)the caller properly. If you know who's calling, feel free to say something like "Hi, Tom! How are you today?"

If you're having some food, take the time to swallow( 咽下) it before answering the phone. In fact, you're not supposed to speak with your mouth full at any time.Even when you're talking to a friend, he or she may have a hard time understanding you.

Many Chinese poets liked  about willows in their works. One of the poems is A Farewell Song(《送元二使安西》)by Wang Wei. It reads,

No dust is raised on the road wet with morning rain.

The willows by the hotel look sofresh and green.

I invite you to drink a cup of wine again.

Nowadays, willow twigs can also be seen in modern art. There was an amazing performance about willow twigs,365 people willow twigs in their hands on the green stage. At the same time, a  of weeping willows （垂柳） appeared on the LED screen.The setting of 365 people stood for 365 days, and the color green meant the return of spring. The performance was  highly by the audience. "I was deeply attracted（吸引）by  Chinese culture," one of them said.

In short, giving a willow twig to a person is not saying goodbye but asking him or her to  .This is the beauty of Chinese culture.

Everyone needs friends. Friends can help you in many ways. But how do you find real friendship and keep it?

The American writer Sally Seamans tells us some smart ways to find friends. In fact, finding friendship is just like planting a tree.You plant a seed( 种子) and look

after it to make it grow.So first of all, you should choose friends.You choose them not because they have money or good luck. You choose them just because they can be kind and patient.When you have a bad time, a good friend can try his or her best to help you.

If you want to make new friends. you shouldn't be shy. You should talk to others actively and warmly.You can say hello to them. You can talk about the weather, the news at home and abroad. and your hobbies with them. Keep doing these things, and you can make friends easily.

However, good friends may have different ideas on something. So what

should you do when you disagree with your friends? You should talk to them as much as possible. Try to tell them what you think and why you want to do this or that.

Remember that friendship is very important in your life.You must look after it well just like looking after yourself.
