Once there was a teenage boy who was known as a fast runner in his village. He only 1 winning every race and becoming more successful.

Long long ago, an old man owned the best horses in all the land. One night, the man's horse, a big black horse, disappeared. The old man was sad because it was the best horse he had. Friends came to say how sorry they were. The old man only said, "What will be, will be." And he went on with his work. 

Several months later, the villagers saw the black horse coming home, leading two beautiful white horses. The villagers were happy for the return of the old man's horse and the addition of two more. The old farmer said quietly, "What will be, will be." And he went back to his work. 

The old man's only son loved horses, so the old man gave his son one of the white horses. And the old man began to teach his son to ride. Unluckily, the boy fell from the horse and broke his leg. Everyone was sad and came to tell the old man how sad they were. The old man just looked at them and said, "What will be, will be." And he returned to his work. 

In a few weeks, another tribe（部落）from the far north invaded（入侵）the land. The king sent his officers to enlist（征募）one male child from each family to fight against the invaders. The officers did not take the old man's son because of his disabled leg. As he watched those officers leaving, the old man said to himself. "What will be, will be." And he went on with his work. 

Does it really matter if we know how old animals are? To many scientists, it does. 

When studying animal populations, it is of great importance to scientists to know how many animals there are and how old they are. This information can help scientists learn which animals are thriving and which ones need more care and help. Scientists usually use the following ways to tell animals' age. 

For many animals, their teeth can help scientists know their age. In some animals, some teeth don't come in until a certain age. Take cows for example. Like humans, cows have two sets of teeth, milk teeth and permanent teeth. They normally get their first pair of permanent teeth when they're two years old. Then they have the next pair at the age of three, the third pair at the age of four…

Hair and skin can also provide information about age. Some animals tend to get bad skin and gray hair as they get older. If you are keen on keeping a dog, you may have noticed that its nose and mouth get grayer as it gets older. 

Animals' eyes and ears might also help scientists tell animals' age. As animals get older, their hearing often becomes weak and their eyesight might begin to fail. 

Scientists are continuing to discover new and more ways of telling the age of animals. Recently, scientists have learned that  ▲ . That's really good news!

Field trip days are often the best days of the whole school year. That's why it is important that you should follow some basic rules to keep the trip safe and enjoyable.

Everybody has a favorite TV show. Some people like to watch cartoons, other people like to watch soap operas. Now reality TV shows are very popular in many countries. Reality TV shows have no actors. The stars are real people like you and me.

One of the most famous ones is "Survivor (《幸存者》)". In "Survivor", sixteen people try to win one million dollars. For ten weeks they live together far away from home. Their life is very hard. They have to sleep outside and find their own food. There are many games and tests. If they fail a test, they might have to leave the show. "Survivor" is very popular. In America, 51 million people watched the last show to see who would win.

Is it good to watch a lot of TV? In Britain, most children watch more than three hours every day, and 66 percent of children have a TV in their bedroom. Some people think that watching too much TV is unhealthy for children because it stops them doing exercise. They say that children should read books or go outside and play. They also think that watching cartoons that show a lot of violence (暴力) is bad for young people.

But now some scientists say that watching TV can be good. They found that children who watch TV before an exam can get higher grades. This is because TV helps them to relax before the exam. It also exercises their brains, but remember: NOT TOO MUCH!
