I take after my mother. From her I took over a curious nature, a sense of adventure and bright red hair. However, I did not receive a talent for 1 from her.

When a new cell phone starts to be sold in stores, many people rush out to buy one. We all want the newest, latest thing. But what should we do with our old cell phones?

Mike Townsend works at Total Recall, a cell phone recycling company."Don't throw your old phone away. Send it to us and we'll recycle it,"he says."If you throw it away, it goes with other rubbish to become landfill. In other words, it is put in a big hole in the ground—and it becomes a big problem."

Cell phones contain some toxic materials(有毒物质), like lead, mercury(汞) and cadmium(镉).If your phone goes to a landfill, these toxic materials can get out and get into the water under the ground. That's the water we want to drink or the water that goes into rivers or the ocean. Millions of cell phones are thrown away every year.

"At Total Recall, we take the old phones apart. Most of the materials in a cell phone can be recycled and used again,"explains Mike."We sell the parts and they are used to make new products.For example, phone batteries contain nickel(镍) and cadmium. The nickel is used to make steel, and the cadmium can be used to make new batteries. The plastic cases of the phones are made into plastic fence posts."

Mike says recycling your old phone is easy."You can usually take it into a cell phone shop and they'll send it to us."So, before you throw your old cell phone away, use it one last time: search for a cell phone recycling company near you and give them a call.

A team of Chinese scientists and climbers reached the top of Qomolangma at about 12:30 p. m.on Tuesday, May 23. It's the second time since last year for the science expedition(考察) team to reach the top.

The team was made up of 13 Chinese scientists and climbers. They set off at a height of 8,300 meters for the top at about 3 a. m. After more than 8 hours of hard climbing, they arrived at the 8,830-metre weather station.

After fixing steel ropes, changing batteries and putting in wind speed and direction sensors(传感器), they finished improving the world's highest automated(自动化的) weather station, which was set up by Chinese scientists last year. Besides, they collected ice-snow samples on the top for further research.

The weather station records temperatures, wind speeds and other key data for studying climate change. Climate scientists have found that global warming has had a large influence on the glacier number on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(青藏高原).

Over the last fifty years, the temperature on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has risen about 0.5℃every ten years. Studying the ecosystem(生态系统) of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau will help scientists have a better understanding of the influence of climate change, and help scientists and the government make proper decisions.

Since the mid-20th century, China has sent different research expedition teams to Qomolangma.But because of limited resources and technologies, many key scientific questions are still unanswered, such as whether global warming can melt the ice at the top of Qomolangma, and how ecosystem can change as height increases to extremity.

This spring, the most eye-catching movie might be YOLO(《热辣滚烫》). By March 18, it had made around 

3.5 billion yuan at the box office, reported Paper.

Directed by 41-year-old Jia Ling, the movie tells the story of a woman tired of the world,finding herself and learning to love life through boxing(拳击). The name of YOLO is short for the movie's main idea- you only live once.

Jia Ling has tried many different roles in her life, including crosstalk and sketch( 小品)performer, variety show guest and actress. The movie Hi, Mom(《你好, 李焕英》) in 2019 is the first one Jia directed in her life.

Jia didn't study directing at university. It makes her feel freer in film making because she doesn't need to follow a fixed style. To everyone's surprise, Hi, Mom made her the world's highest-grossing(票房最高) woman director before 2023.

Before making YOLO, Jia was often seen as an overweight comedian. She often makes jokes about herself to make people laugh. For this movie, Jia lost more than 50 kg which made it hard to imagine that this is the same Jia we once know. Some people online said even her voice became softer, and they called this a"rebirth"for Jia. She has proved through her actions that if you want to be successful, you need to try your best.

In Jia's eyes, her change in identity(身份) and look is her way of saying true to herself."It's hard to predict one's life. I'm just following my heart but not looking for changes in purpose.Movies are now the way to show myself, so I put all my energy into them."Jia to Xinhua.

I spent this year's Spring Festival with one of my dear Chinese friends. He lives in a small town in Jilin Province.  exciting the experience was!

After I arrived at the town, my friend showed me  it. I also helped my friend's family clean their whole house and do some  (shop). We bought lots of delicious food.
